About this deal

Diffuser: Some slit lamps comes with a diffuser which can be used to diffuse light if the ophthalmologist wishes to take pictures of the entire eye without slitting the light source. This gives a diffuse lighting to the eye. Refer to Figure 6 for detail. After mounting the adaptor to the slit lamp camera, one may use the built-in camera app in your smartphone and just snap pictures or video as desired. The camera flash should be disabled. Though there might be concern regarding patient’s confidentiality when pictures taken are stored in the doctor’s personal smartphone, these problems may be solved by archiving the picture in a separate system like Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) 7.

Smartphone cameras are incredible: the quality of photos and videos that can be captured from a mobile phone these days is staggering. The latest devices can capture video in up to 8K for breathtaking quality. The most important of the settings is picture size. You want the highest resolution to provide the highest quality images possible, making cropping easier by rendering a sharply focused photograph. This may take up a lot of space on the phone’s internal memory or on the memory card, if you have that option. I recommend getting the largest capacity memory card available and saving the images to the card. Because the smartphone’s full internal memory is necessary to allow the phone to work properly and photography files can be very large, I have a 256GB SD card and save all of my photography to this memory card. Remember to save your images as tiff, png, or jpg, as those files are accepted by most publications. Figure 4. Left image shows a typical retinal image captured with the smart phone ophthalmoscope. Right image shows an ophthalmoscope adapter (a) assembled on phone (b). On the phone (c) are a flash LED (d), camera (e), prism (f), and shield (g). The red arrow indicates the light path. Given such benefits and the ubiquity of smartphones, why hasn’t slit-lamp photography become a mainstream imaging modality? The truth is, capturing a freehand slit-lamp image with a smartphone is not nearly as easy as capturing a typical smartphone photograph. Although it is possible, taking freehand photos often disrupts the examination workflow and increases chair time. For smartphone use to gain mass adoption as an imaging modality, we must improve the usability, efficiency, and image quality of smartphone slit-lamp photography. USABILITY AND EFFICIENCY

After obtaining the images, choose the best ones with your app and use tools, such as cropping and rotate, to produce an excellent final photograph. Steps All the sponges measured are then cut-to-fit the slit lamp eye piece and the viewing hole of smartphone camera (Refer Figure 3, Picture No. 4).Adjust the distance between your iPhone’s camera lens and slit lamp ocular until the image fills the iPhone viewing screen. This may be difficult or impossible if your iPhone slit lamp adapter does not allow for such adjustments.

It will require you first to slide out the ocular and slide in the iPhone slit lamp adapter attached to the case. So first, you should confirm this information:The picture shows the removal process of a foreign body on a 20-year-old patient. The sequence is A) initial presentation, B) post removal of corneal foreign body, and C) post removal of rust ring. The image you see through the slit lamp ocular will not be the same as the image that you see through on your smartphone’s viewing screen, especially when you are performing retroillumination. Focus the image through the slit lamp’s ocular then fine-tune the focus through smartphone’s viewing screen. Measure the eyepiece’s diameter. The adapter’s ocular will replace the original ocular, so it must be the same size. Usually, the eyepieces are from 23 to 30 mm.
