About this deal

I relish the elevated romance within The Duet as the lines between love, desire, and obsession begin to blur creating an eruption of forbidden passion and ecstasy. Max and Cassidy's relationship is the type of love story that you love to hate, innately they know its bad for them, but like a slut for punishment, they pursue it anyway because in the immortal words of Cassidy, "avoiding conflict to prevent a battle, can often start a war on your heart." I loved Moody Broody Max and Cute Clever Cassidy❤️More than anyone else,I resonated with Toni because just like him,I'm the go-to person for innuendos in my friends circle so much so that if I'm being serious, people are still trying to figure out what's the joke there😂 stars. I read this a while ago, so this review won't be very detailed, but this is a good read if you like the tropes of mafia, virgin girl / experienced guy, jealous /possessive hero, classy girl/ rough guy, and surprise pregnancy towards the end.

First off this is two books in one- which is fabulous. I love that the author made my life easier for me. Now I find myself not wanting to end this review, because that means their story is over, and it breaks my heart. The writing is exceptional and the editing and grammar are on point. There is nothing to distract from the amazing story line the author unfolds as the book goes on. Nicci Harris has written another winner within the series and I am excited to see what's in store for the "Kids of the District." His world is going to intoxicate her. The dangerous men that he calls family will want to use her, tutu and all.I have so many words to say about this book but I find it hard to express how amazing it is. I won’t be giving any spoilers in this review because you just need to read it to believe it. I think I cried through the last 5 or so chapters. And I’m not a huge crier at all. I felt like the author completely tore me apart with her words. She made me feel like I was right their with them through this journey. I cried and laughed with them, I felt their sadness and pain. You will go through it all with them. I was so sad at the end, not because the book made me sad but because I could have read their story for days. I’m glad this isn’t the end of this series and we get Bronson’s story next. Just keeping my fingers crossed we don’t have to wait too long. Where we left off here (and we do get a HEA for Max and Cassidy) left me wanting to learn more I’m so excited to be starting Bronson’s story next he’s such a contradiction of humour and violence so I’m looking forward to getting up close and personal with him. This series so far has been very enjoyable and I do recommend it. This book has Sweet, Spice, drama, angst, love, fear, trauma, good girl/bad boy vibes that hook you in and keep you to the very last word. At which point you will clamor for book 2. I loved that the penalty wasn't overridden by using influence. That was the real test of love,to endure,to wait, although love shouldn't be tested, should be cherished.

To sum up this book in one line, I’d say it is a 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒓𝒐𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒔𝒖𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆 𝒄𝒐𝒄𝒐𝒐𝒏𝒆𝒅 𝒂𝒓𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒊𝒕. The characters in "Our Thing" are charismatic with bold personalities that tug at your heartstrings. I quite enjoyed the contrast between Cassidy, the district's sweetheart, and the total alpha male vibe from the district's most notorious bad boy Max Butcher. "Our Thing" is good girl meets bad boy, District style and I loved every minute of it. it’s almost most definitely NOT a stand-alone and unless you have read the other books in the series you will not know what’s going on for most of the time Chapter 31 "Were you ever going to tell me that you love me, Max?" He smiles softly. "If I don't will you still know?" " Yes." 😭 We have Cassidy, an 18 year old ballerina who lives, breath, and sleeps dance. But has had a crush on Max Butcher since he saved her brother when they were children. She only finally gets close to him on her 18th birthday due to her friend hanging out with him. So we go on an emotionally roller coaster of what they will lead to or if it will be anything at all.The story-building and writing is sharp with just the right amount of humor to balance out the dastardly setting that is the district. As with her previous book, Nicci Harris focuses strongly on the theme of family. Her depiction of the mafia and the commitments and struggles of those "in" the lifestyle are raw and honest. You're an asset. Leverage. This is what they do. It's the long game. It doesn't look that bad at first, which is how you miss it. It's a favour. It's a kindness. It's a sponsorship. But then they have claws in every part of your life and one day, you sit up and wonder how you’d gotten in so deep. . ." he feels very predatory in the way that he seemingly never asks for consent when engaging in sexual acts (which seem to me to be very rough) (EVEN IMMEDIATELY AFTER HE SEES THE TAPE OF HER VERY BRUTAL RAPE) There’s a couple of twists, one I saw coming and one I didn’t. And that one ruined me. Like snot dribbling, ugly crying got me. And that friggin’ letter. I WAS A MESS!!! Rupert really turned up the grumpy and bossy in his performance and really showcased Max’s possessive and protective side so perfectly in this performance. But Georgia’s Cassidy wasn’t having any of that, she portrayed Cassidy’s determination to stand with Max and be part of his world and I couldn’t help but fall hard for her feistiness wrapped in her sunshine persona. Both narrators really turned up the intensity in their performance and Max & Cassidy’s chemistry: oooft! That's not to say there's not some hot scenes, but this whole thing was just so depressing that it made it so hard to care about the smut or the actual storyline. Anyway, onto the story: Clay is 35, newly the head of the local mafia, and the mayor of the District (the fictional Australian city where these books are set). He’s married, but for arranged mafia reasons, he and his wife don’t have a sexual relationship. I actually love this part of the book - since his wife isn’t an evil OW who’s an obstacle to his relationship with the heroine. She wants good things for him and supports it! I want Aurora to live her best lesbian life, and be a mafia queen. This group is a safe environment, where readers can find awesome new books to obsess over while gaining deeper insight into the creation of their favorite stories. Only Nicci Harris could have me rolling in tears from laughter one minute and then pulling my hair out the next. "Our Thing" went from zero to call the fire brigade hot, insanely fast and I loved all the twists and turns and surprises. The premise of one simple act causing a chain reaction of chaos was sheer brilliance.
