About this deal

Can we really talk about mushrooms without touching on psilocybin? If you have a curiosity about this age-old and newly re-emerging topic then The Psilocybin Mushroom Bible: The Definitive Guide to Growing and Using Magic Mushrooms by Dr. K Mandrake and Virginia Haze is the book for you. It's a fascinating book of history with beautiful illustrations. I would not recommend it as a field guide, but as an interesting book full of fungi, it's wonderful. This would make a nice selection for public library acquisition, for gardeners, gardening groups, smallholders, and lovers of botanical art. The author explains each mushroom species in detail alongside a clear photograph. You get to discover the mushroom season, habitat, edibility, alternative names, and even some look-alike species. Dive in further and learn which mushrooms are edible and which are poisonous. You also uncover information about its different uses and any folklore relating to that specific mushroom. This book also contains a supplementary section on eating wild mushrooms. It includes cooking tips and some illustrations that identify the different parts of a mushroom. This is a well-rounded guide that makes it essential for those of you ready to move from reading into action. Pros and Cons of National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms by Gary A. Lincoff Pros Angie Menjivar is a writer at A-Z-Animals primarily covering pets, wildlife, and the human spirit. It was so very enjoyable & I feel like I learned much! A mushroom forager is called a mycophile. These are people who make wild edible mushroom hunting their hobby. Amanita muscaria and Amanita caesarea, for example, are easily recognizable and observing different depictions is brilliant...though there are slight differences, the anatomy in each is correct and perfect.

We highlight two such books in the list above. The first is the National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms, which focuses specifically on a single continent and the second is Mushrooms: How to Identify and Gather Wild Mushrooms and Other Fungi, which explores over 400 mushrooms and fungi found throughout the world. Best Psychedelic: The Psilocybin Mushroom Bible: The Definitive Guide to Growing and Using Magic Mushrooms by Dr. K Mandrake and Virginia Haze But the blurb specifies that EACH painting show the plant (thus the mushroom) in its natural habitat.. but um, where then? I mean for most we just see one to multiple mushrooms. Sometimes there is a dot of grass or a tree bark seen, but that is it. However, it should be noted that this book does use a lot of scientific terms and explanations which may be confusing to some people. Pros and Cons of Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds & Shape Our Futures by Merlin Sheldrake Pros In this book, Merlin Sheldrake, a young biologist, gives you a different perspective. You get the fungal point of view. Sheldrake’s approach touches on everything from yeast to psychedelics. He touches on the fungi that link plants together in intricate networks and those that span over several miles underground. After reading this book, you might question human evolution and intelligence. Fungi are surprisingly precise and the author examines their roles as key players in most of life‘s processes. The goal is to change your mind, understand how fungi can heal your body, and explore deeper to prevent environmental disasters.

This book is perfect for anyone interested in 18th to 19th century European and Japanese naturalist art, mushrooms , nature-buffs, botany enthusiasts & historians, or those who find joy in looking at just plain beautiful art. This book has a certain addictive harmony between science, art, healing, pain, & beauty that is just utter brilliance! Who woudnt want to learn about fungi like this?? Absolutely brilliant! In our opinion the best beginners guide to mushrooms is Mushrooms: How to Identify and Gather Wild Mushrooms and Other Fungi by DK.

I just love botany books, the drawings are often so gorgeous and pretty bringing the plant to life in front of your eyes. So this one definitely had to come with me on my Netgalley shelf. It includes information about mushroom season, habitat, edibility, alternative names, which are poisonous, different uses, and folklore. Botanists, researchers and mycologists including Paulet, Perard, Lucand and Vittadini (his Amanita muscaria details are breathtaking) depict common and uncommon species with such passion, knowledge and attention. Bulliard's descriptions and detail are out of this world! Truly lovely. I am so grateful for those who found detailing mushrooms important for future study. As the title suggests, this is truly a botanical art book featuring various "...mushroom and fungi paintings by European and Japanese naturalists in 18th to 19th century...". If you are looking for something deeply informative and educational, this may be the wrong book for you. However, if you're looking for something to feast your eyes upon and delve into bits and bobs of thoughtfully written, well researched nuggets of historical information regarding various naturalists and mycologists, this is just the book for you!

This book features a wide collection of mushroom and fungi paintings by Japanese and European naturalists. That being said, aside from a coffee table art book, I don't believe this book offers much, which makes the ebook less worthwhile. I believe a collection of essays, either interspersed or added in another section, would help take this over the top. Essentially, for this to really feel like a good ebook, it needed more, in my opinion. If you’re simply interested in mushroom art then we suggest you take a look at Mushroom Botanical Art by Toshimitsu Fukiharu. For readers interested in exploring mushrooms’ healing properties, A Practical and Culinary Guide to Using Mushrooms for Whole Body Health by Tero Isokauppila is super practical culinary guide. This is a true work of art & knowledge that looks like it belongs in an ancient library ( which is a totally amazing compliment coming from me) just as much as it belongs in EVERY library! So much fun to read & observe. I truly enjoyed this so very much. This book is gorgeously illustrated throughout and contains information on over 450 species of fungi from all over the globe.
