Heading outside the tunnel, the Rapunzel and Flynn find themselves on a ledge overlooking a quarry created below a massive dam. Rapunzel is very surprised to find that besides the palace guards, the Stabbington twins are also giving chase, having escaped their chains, and the horse, Maximus, is also on their path. Appearing to be cornered, Rapunzel uses her hair to swing to an opposing edge and leaves Flynn her frying pan, enabling him to fend off the guards and sword fight with Maximus. As Maximus disarms Flynn and corners him, Rapunzel lassos him with her hair and pulls him to safety. Unable to reach him, the furious horse unhinges a large wooden beam from the dam in an attempt to reach them but renders the dam overlooking the quarry unstable. During the prologue, a white horse plush resembling Maximus can be seen on the infant Rapunzel's mobile. Rapunzel gets the idea of hiding the hair under an oversized wig, which helps well enough despite its awkwardness. She then joins her parents for breakfast, during which Frederic admits that his methods of protecting Rapunzel have been rather unfair and notes that he is reconsidering his decisions, much to Rapunzel's excitement. Afterward, Arianna visits Rapunzel in the latter's bedroom to bestow a coronation gift. She encourages Rapunzel to choose how to live her own life — and eventually rule the kingdom — despite her father's stubbornness and what others may think. She gives Rapunzel a journal she herself once used in her younger years, with a note the reads: " Plus est en vous," meaning, "There is more to you." In " In Like Flynn", Rapunzel "pranks" Maximus by luring him into a barn, ominously closing him in as if he's in danger, only to reveal that she has created a massive display in Maximus' honor, completely made of apples. Overjoyed to near tears, Maximus almost immediately dives in and begins eating to his heart's content.
Despite all of this, Flynn's arrogance is revealed to provide a false sense of optimism as the thief is highly vulnerable and capable of showing and feeling legitimate emotion. This is seen after he meets and forms a relationship with Rapunzel. The princess' refusal to be fooled by Flynn's charisma, and genuine interest in his life and struggles, would be the first motivators to dropping the "Flynn Rider" persona and accepting who he alluded to being in the orphanage, which was caring, starry-eyed, and selfless. Eugene, along with Rapunzel, appears in this short sequel to the film, in which the two are preparing themselves for their Royal wedding. As the short opens, Flynn starts off the story by joking "This is the story of the day my life ended" as a nod to the original film's opening. Rapunzel corrects him, and he reaffirms that it is the happiest day of both their lives. He agrees with her that everything is perfect except for the fact that his nose is still incorrectly drawn. Maximus' exact age is unknown, but the dialogue in " Max's Enemy" seems to suggest that he is past his youth. On the Tangled blu-ray release, Maximus appears in the short "Crashimus Maximus", as part of the Flynn's Tangled Tales series. In " In Like Flynn," Rapunzel "pranks" Maximus by luring him into a barn, ominously closing him in as if he's in danger, only to reveal that she has created a massive display in Maximus' honor, completely made of apples. Overjoyed to nearly tears, Maximus almost immediately dives in and begins eating to his heart's content. Flynn began a heated rivalry with the Captain of the Guards's horse, Maximus after having stolen the crown of the lost princess. Maximus was determined to catch and apprehend Flynn where the latter kept fleeing from the horse. Flynn also did not think highly of Maximus as he one time called him a "fleabag" and taunted the horse when he managed to escape from him. This guide unfolds the story of this unique horse from Tangled, one of Disney’s unforgettable creations. Who Is the Horse in Tangled? So far in the Disney theme parks, Maximus has only appeared in the 2010 Disney Parks Christmas Day Parade, walking Rapunzel in the parade with Flynn by his side. He has made no live appearances since but has his likeness commonly featured in several entities, most notably in parades. In the series, both Eugene and Rapunzel are friends with the thugs including Hook Hand's brother Hook Foot. Hook Foot even joins Eugene, Rapunzel, Shorty, Cassandra and Lance on their journey to the Dark Kingdom in season 2 until he leaves with his brother Hook Hand, on tour.
