Overall it’s not much of an upgrade, and those wings really don’t look big enough to make this dragon “flight ready”. But I suppose you have to start somewhere. The dragon also gets a flame element to finish off the tail. I kidded the Thunder Dragon that it just missed going “full Charmander” with its tail topper, but I suppose there’s no escaping that comparison this time. Of course, given the option, I think I’d rather take home the “top of the line” 71766 Llyod’s Legendary Dragon. As a return to “Core” Ninjago concepts, the EVO wave has done a great job of adding three new dragons into the lore. Admittedly, the 6+ models aren’t as complex (or expensive) as the dragon aimed squarely at the older fans. But they hold their own quite nicely and add some interesting variations into the Ninjago Draconomicon. The head works really well, with the printed eye, and ability for the jaw to open in a wide array of angles – I also like the trans-yellow spikes on top of its head.

It’s been a while since I’ve had to build a set at this scale, meant for younger kids, and I really enjoyed the simplicity and playability of it all. With just the right number of minifigures, and an awesome dragon that you can level up. Much like LEGO NINJAGO 71760 Jay’s Thunder Dragon EVO and as mentioned in our review of that set, 71762 Kai’s Fire Dragon EVO’s build skews it heavily towards the target audience presented on the box of ages six and up. However, the final, fully-armoured model offers something a little different to the other 6+ dragon set of this new wave. I really love how cool the illustrations are here – plenty of comicbook/manga-inspired graphics, that really bring the build to life – huge props to the graphic designers who were responsible for this. 71760 Jay’s Thunder Dragon EVO Set Details LEGO® NINJAGO® Legacy playset featuring Kai and his Fire Dragon from season 1 of the TV series for epic battles against Lord Garmadon. This cool toy for kids will help them learn to build with confidence. Ultimately, this new wave of Ninjago Core sets are designed primarily for kids, so I was keen to really put these sets to the test, to see how my 5-year old would play with them.
