About this deal

In song and showmanship too, it transitions from a solid show to a storming one by the end of the first half, and every performance oozes personality and mischief from hereon in. The seduction scene, in which Burke plays Potiphar’s lascivious wife, has a kitschy whiff of Carry On, while the Pharaoh’s song is pure Las Vegas gold. Theatre Includes: Assistant Choreographer and Ensemble in Top Hat (The Mill at Sonning), Cassandra / 1st Cover Bombalurina in Cats The Musical (South Korean Tour); Olga Mara / Featured Ensemble / Cover Lina Lamont in Singing in the Rain (The Mill at Sonning); Ensemble in To Gill ie with Love (Gillian Lynne Theatre, London), June in Chicago The Musical (Phoenix Theatre, London); Cassandra / 1st Cover Bombalurina in Cats The Musical (International Tour); Cassandra / Dance Captain / 1st Cover Bombalurina and Demeter in Cats The Musical (RCCL, The Really Useful Group); Hunyak in Chicago Das Musical (Palladium Theatre, Stuttgart); Kitty / Liz in Chicago The Musical (RCCL / Namco); Lady Mabelle in Once Upon A Mattress (Union Theatre, London); Snow White and The Seven Dwarves (Wolverhampton Grand); Peter Pan (Darlington Civic) In February 1973, theatre producer Michael White and impresario Robert Stigwood mounted a further expanded version of the Young Vic production at the Albery Theatre in the West End, where it ran for 243 performances. [21] [22] This Young Vic production of Joseph was recorded for an LP released on the RSO label in 1973. The mystery plays that had preceded the original Young Vic productions were dropped, and instead the musical was preceded by a piece called Jacob's Journey, with music and lyrics by Lloyd Webber and Rice and a book by television comedy writers Ray Galton and Alan Simpson. [9] Jacob's Journey, which contained a great deal of spoken dialogue, was eventually phased out in favour of a sung-through score that became part of Joseph. [9] The first production of the show in its modern, final form was at the Haymarket Theatre in Leicester, which presented the musical several times from 1974 through 1978. [18] [23] English Cast charts [ edit ] Chart (1973) Doidge’s boyish charm is repeatedly overpowered by Paulini’s narrator, whose vocal range and command of the stage display the star power that she has always possessed (though it is often unclear if she thinks herself narrator or conductor). Trevor Ashley’s Elvis-impersonating Pharaoh is a glimmer of hope in this production (when you can hear him), exuding jubilance and charm, finally able to deliver the camp tone the show was aiming for, with a Las Vegas-style neon sign hanging from the roof to signal outwardly to the farcicality of it all. In November 2022, the London Palladium production opened in Melbourne, Australia. The production will then move to Sydney opening at the Capitol Theatre on the 11 February, 2023. [77]

Matt Gibson hails from New York City where he has performed on Broadway in Gypsy (starring Patti Lupone) and off-Broadway in Help (Shed NYC), On a Clear Day You Can See Forever, Finian’s Rainbow, & New Girl in Town (Irish Rep), and The Underclassman (Duke 42).

Novello published the lyrics and sheet music of the 20-minute version at the beginning of 1969, as the third of their Old Testament pop cantatas. [5] [9] Decca Records, which had already recorded the St Paul's Cathedral version of the musical in the summer of 1968, released the recording in 1969, credited to the Joseph Consortium, following the Novello publication. [5] [9] [13] [14] [15] David Daltrey, front man of British psychedelic band Tales of Justine, played the role of Joseph and lead guitar, and Tim Rice was Pharaoh. Other vocalists included members of the Mixed Bag group, such as Terry Saunders and Malcolm Parry, and the choir of Colet Court School. [13] [14] [15] Composer calls for some new theatres". A major Australian production, based on the 1991 UK version, opened on 31 December 1992 at the State Theatre in Melbourne. It featured Indecent Obsession lead singer David Dixon as Joseph and Tina Arena as the Narrator. The musical then played seasons in Brisbane and Sydney through 1993. [45] [46] What does work well in this production is the ensemble: director Laurence Connor has created a sense of the collective with this cast. The songs are most memorable when delivered in enthusiastic unison. The ensemble succeeds in delivering with such gusto that Doidge’s Joseph often pales in comparison. He is not given the chance to show the same command of the stage he has shown in previous break-out roles (such as Blaine Tuttle in Cruel Intentions: the ’90s Musical ). To hide what they have done, Joseph's brothers and their wives tell Jacob that his beloved son has been killed. As proof, they show him Joseph's coat, which they have torn to pieces and covered in goat's blood ("One More Angel in Heaven"). When the devastated Jacob exits, the brothers and wives cheerfully celebrate Joseph's departure ("Hoedown").The 2007 West End revival and several of the UK Tour productions included "King of My Heart" performed by Pharaoh which was sung after "Stone the Crows" . [81] [82] Awards and nominations [ edit ] Original Broadway production [ edit ] Year Joseph declares that Egypt will see seven years of plentiful harvests, followed by an equal period of famine ("Pharaoh's Dreams Explained"). Impressed with what he hears, Pharaoh pardons and frees Joseph, makes him his second-in-command, and puts him in charge of famine preparations ("Stone the Crows"). Hummel, David (January 1984).
