About this deal

Short of one of those AI drones that automatically follows you, this is hands-down the best way to shoot action footage, and this is a superb camera kit with which to do it. Highly recommended. For a long time, the most prominent name in the action camera business has been GoPro. Now, Insta360 is mounting a challenge to that title, with the release of its new ONE RS Twin Edition modular 360 action camera in March.

However, you lose the sense of immediacy of shooting directly from the camera. And using a phone app use just is not going to be feasible on many occasions when you need to use an action camera. Stabilization The entire set-up when assembled weighs 177g in both the 4K and 360º configurations, but it’s that all-new core module that’s doing a lot of the heavy lifting. It outputs up to 100mpbs video bitrate video using the H.265 codec and also outputs in the ProRes422 lossless format (if you use Insta360’s Studio desktop software). The X3 is fully waterproof to 10m and the larger touchscreen makes it overall more easy to use. Like the One RS the X3 can also be used as two different kinds of cameras. When using both lenses the X3 is a 360 camera but you can also go to single lens mode and shoot 4K “normal” video. I’ll show you some comparisons between both the 360 and flat video that these cameras can shoot later in this article. However, that screen is small. It’s dynamic, changing orientation and according to the aspect ratio of the video or photos you’re creating, but its 24x24mm size make it hard to use for anything other than making sure your subject is roughly in the centre of the screen. Despite that tiny size, it works well enough for doing a piece to camera. Both the One RS Boost Mod and X3 feature a half inch sensor for shooting standard video, and they can both capture 4K resolution video. The One RS Boost Mod can shoot at 60fps whereas as the X3 is limited to 30fps.The Insta360 app really impressed us. It’s super-stable and reliable, attaching a phone to the Insta360 ONE RS Twin Edition without problems and sharing files faster than the first-gen model. It certainly feels like trading files over WiFi is faster than on the previous version, though some of its headline features – such as 6K widescreen mode and 48MP PureShot photos – can’t be used with the app; you’ll need to use the (free) Insta360 Studio software on a desktop computer for those. Performance As you’re probably aware, ONE RS and ONE R both have a unique interchangeable lens system, whereby multiple lenses can be swapped in and out on the same device. Essentially, the perfect camera for every situation. It is with the lenses that we find our first big difference: the new 4K Boost Lens. To whet your appetite, here’s a little taster of what this bad boy can do: 4K Boost Lens: A Total Upgrade

Editing via the app now comes with a new Snap Wizard mode, which allows you to move your phone or swipe to reframe. This is more capable than the first-gen version, but we’re not convinced how useful the 6K widescreen feature really is. Much more useful is the ability to record in great-looking 4K, which was always pin-sharp and ultra-smooth. In the first segment this week, Senior Editor Nic de Sena chats with Arthur Coldwells about KTM’s latest Super Duke 1290 GT. That’s the sport-touring version of the Super Duke R. The question is whether KTM overly detuned its fierce superbike, or whether even in touring mode, the heart of The Beast is still just as savage. It’s a big upgrade over the Insta360 One R’s HDR video, with virtually no evidence of ghosting this time. This suggests it may use DOL-HDR, where two exposures are captured in one read-out sweep of the camera sensor. In this same hazy sky scene where the GoPro had the upper hand with Auto shooting, the One RS's HDR mode takes an easy victory with a much more vibrant, less noisy-looking foreground.

This meant I couldn't create a 360 livestream just for my family, which is one of the reasons I was so interested in investigating the ONE RS. The app also notes that you can only broadcast 30 minutes of live 360 video at a time.

The only issue with Shot Lab is that despite it telling you exactly what to do to satisfy the needs of each template it’s very difficult to tell from the camera roll exactly which clip is relevant to each template. You can choose your aspect ratio, and also choose natural view or some special effects. The only effect I used was Tiny Planet for the opening and closing – everything else was Natural View. The 360 livestream did work on Facebook, though I wish the resolution and lag were a bit better. Credit: Amanda Yeo / Mashable Should you buy it? The new Insta360 ONE RS Twin Edition comes with an improved megapixel size thanks to the new image sensor, the can shoot pictures up to 48MP , and thanks to the higher resolution we get a lot more detail in the pictures.

The advantage of this design is that you can switch between different lenses which allows you to have different types of camera in one setup. The One RS is waterproof up to 5m without a case so it can handle some underwater shots but don’t take it too deep. The Core Mod features a small touchscreen for manual control but the small size makes it difficult to change settings. The unique cross-compatibility of these two cameras means the benefits of ONE RS are available to everyone, whether purchasing a brand new camera, or upgrading parts of their current setup. And I’ve not even covered the weird little features like 360 webcam mode, voice activation and other accessories. Being able to effortlessly pair the 360 Lens capabilities with the 4K Boost lens makes these the only cameras that can offer such a powerful combo. With 360-degree capture, it doesn’t matter what you thought you were aiming it because you frame what you want to see during the post-ride editing process. The AI-enhanced application that processes the 360 videos helps you get the best views of the subject matter. Also available are , a 2,380mAh Boosted Battery Case, a 3D Mount for capturing stereoscopic footage, and an External Mic Adaptor (USB-Type C to 3.5mm) for pairing with an external mic such as RODE Wireless Go. Talking of audio, the Insta 360 ONE R captures it using two microphones, and you can also record audio wirelessly using the onboard mics of Apple AirPods.
