In stark contrast to their predecessors, the Namarti Reavers are a bit more fiddly to assemble, in spite of being made up of far fewer components. Each model has a variant build as well, holding their bow and something in their other hand in a slightly different angle, so you’ve lots of freedom to make these figures look just how you want. Yet again, Victoria is concerned for the welfare of the Doctor and Jamie. Price informs Harris of the arrival of Jones. He and the Chief Engineer go to meet her and inform her of the situation. Harris leaves Oak and Quill in charge in the Impeller Room, with Victoria worriedly waiting and listening. The Doctor was originally supposed to use a regular screwdriver to inspect the pipeline on the beach, but Michael E. Briant suggested that the scene would be more interesting if he had a special screwdriver which operated using soundwaves. Ryftmar is located on the southern coast of the continent known as the Great Parch in the Realm of Aqshy. Did they choose this location for the beautiful views over the Vitriolus Reach, the great beaches, or the excellent surfing on the Vitriol Sea? None can say for sure, but the Fyreslayers here guarded the Brimstein Hearthlands against rampaging raiders, cannibal hordes, and more, even through the Age of Chaos.*

The Doctor tells Jones that he believes the weed is a living organism capable of telepathic control. He believes it is parasitic and claims the humans as part of its colony. Suddenly, there is a communication from Control Rig: Baxter is in a panic, saying the creatures are all around them. His cries subside only as the communication is cut off. The Fourth Doctor would later encounter another seaweed creature under very similar circumstances. ( COMIC: The Sea Devil)Price is unable to raise communications with a third rig at sea. The Doctor implores Van Lutyens to do something but he has no authority and needs to wait for Harris to return. With Robson disappeared and now aware of the real threat, Harris assumes control of the command centre, calling in Megan Jones, Director of Euro Gas. The Doctor and his friends return to Harris's home, and find Mrs. Harris gone but the house filling up with sea foam, which they barely escape from through a skylight. They return to the centre and find Mrs. Harris hasn't been seen there either; despite his duties, Harris feels he must search for his wife, and leaves the chief engineer in charge. Out on the beach Mrs. Harris and Robson are watching the waves, and she tells him there isn't much time and he knows what he must do. Robson agrees, and Mrs. Harris walks out into the waves. Harris appears and questions Robson, who calmly tells him he'll see his wife soon, and then walks away down the beach. The Auric Flamekeeper is joined by five Auric Hearthguard and five Hearthguard Berzerkers – 10 models in total who can be built either way – as well as 10 Vulkite Berzerkers . While they got a little better on the charge, they lost their re-roll. With a smaller movement, it can be hard to always get them in range to charge, either way, it’s not giant. These two mighty heroes will decide the fate of Ryftmar at the head of two forces comprising a total of 43 miniatures.

If you’re all about the paint, the Idoneth Deepkin have some truly sublime models for you to get your brushes onto, such as Eidolon of Mathlann and Volturnos, High King of the Deep. The soul-hunting Idoneth Deepkin are escalating their raids on the coastal Fyreslayer stronghold of Ryftmar. As the acidic tides rise, so too does the intensity of the marauding Akhelian Thrallmaster, a new Idoneth character. With no less than 43 figures – yes, 43! – in the box, Fury of the Deep is a treasure-trove for any model-making, miniature-painting, or wargaming hobby-lover.

New Fyreslayers AoS Rules For the Auric Flamemaster

When the Doctor is explaining the seaweed to Van Lutyens and Harris, he says "It attaches itself to other other living things."

The card range rulers in Fury of the Deep are much more likely to get bent, fray, peel apart, or just break. Whilst it’s cool to have some slightly different rulers, and good to see that waste on the perforated board from which the tokens and rulers are birthed (ew…) is being minimised, if I’m honest I think I’d have preferred some of the typical plastic ones over these. It’s always fun to get some new battle plans in these types of boxes, let’s just hope that doesn’t raise the retail price as things like that should just be added value to box sets. Victoria mentions that the TARDIS always seems to land on Earth. ( TV: The Abominable Snowmen, The Ice Warriors, The Enemy of the World, The Web of Fear) That’s right – you can now run a whole army of flame-spitting, obsidian-scaled lizards ridden by pugnacious duardin princes with fiery mohawks. It’s the perfect way to get revenge on the super-sized sea-beasts of Idoneth Deepkin – and a fitting army formation for the Era of the Beast, in which might makes right. However, the vast majority of the Thralls go together far easier than the bow-toting brethren with whom they share a box. Components are, on the whole, both far larger and fewer in number, which makes the Thralls very easy to assemble. Along with all of this narrative content, the Fury of the Deep box also includes two armies – perfect for if you’re joining in with New Year, New Army or want to add to an existing force – as well the warscro As above, your Hearthguard Berserkers can also be built as Auric Hearthguard, so if you wished you could have ten of one or the other instead of five of each.

Hearing the scream, the Chief Engineer raises the lift to find no Van Lutyens. The Doctor and, more reluctantly, Jamie go down after him. This is about as good of a value for a box we’ve seen in a while. It feels like it’s been forever since we had even seen a new AoS battle box (Dominion doesn’t really count) but the value is basically identical to the last one. Van Lutyens again tries to reason with Robson, but Robson is full of contempt for him, Harris, and all the others trying to tell him his job. As they argue, the impeller grinds to a halt. The entire refinery is flooded with the heartbeat sound that has been masked by the sound of the machinery. On the smiting hand, Grimnir’s Resolve lets you throw units into melee in the combat phase – neatly avoiding the Unleash Hell command ability – and Grimnir’s Vengeance improves the Damage characteristic of your weapons, to help your little lads carve through their fishy foes.

Fury From the Deep is an enjoyable story from writer Victor Pemberton with tension, scares, convincing acting and good dialogue. It is quite similar to some of the Third Doctor stories like Inferno in many ways. If you’re a fan of pushing tiny aeroplanes around a board while making dakka noises – and let’s face it, who isn’t – then you’ll be super excited to grab the Aeronautica Imperialis Companion. Fury of the Deep is due in early 2022, and there’s more news about salty sea-aelves and sizzling duardin coming.
