About this deal

Spotlighting the incredible skill and talent of youth artists and providing a space for young people to express the importance of wildlife through visual art; The artist’s elevation of the series to pop culture status played a huge role in raising awareness of these species and funds for their preservation. Most of the prints were used for fundraising projects among many conservation groups. A trip to the zoo is great way to learn about endangered animals and how we can help them. This post shares tips for making the most of your visit. Extinct in the Wild - When a species survives in captivity, cultivation, or has a naturalized population/s well outside the past range, but there are no living animals of the species in their native habitat. With the destruction of rainforests comes the destruction of the orangutan's habitats. To make their situation even worse, they are at risk from illegal hunting, where the females are killed, so their babies can be sold illegally as pets.

Why not do this Hedgehog Awareness Week Reading Comprehension (Ages 5 - 7) next? Other Animal Activities If your child is an animal-lover, they’ll enjoy this activity. They can read about why some animals have become endangered, find out about some examples of endangered animals and design a poster to inform other people. It’s a perfect way to introduce the idea that what humans do can have an impact on the animal world. Warhol’s impact on environmental conservation can still be witnessed today, even after passing in 1987. Before he died, Warhol bought 15.1 acres of beachfront property in Montauk, Long Beach, which he left in a pristine condition. He arranged the ownership of the property to be transferred after his death to the Nature Conservancy. He also donated the Andy Warhol Preserve to be part of a land conservancy. He said: The preliminary judges select the top forty semi-finalist artworks. From these forty semifinalists, the six final contest winners are chosen. Two separate judging panels, who are arts professionals, artists, and arts educators from across the U.S., select the semifinalists and finalists. The final six winning categories include: Grand Prize, First Place, and four Grade Level winners. The Grade Level winners include four groups: Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12. Something thing that sets the whale shark apart from the rest of the shark species is the fact that it is a filter feeder. Out of the more than 500 species of sharks in the world, only 3 of them are filter feeders: the whale shark, the basking shark, and the megamouth shark. Because of its feeding style, the whale shark tends to live off plankton and other small organisms that float in the water, which is surprising given its size.

Posters are a wonderful way to support learning on a specific topic, by providing a helpful source of visual reinforcement in the classroom as well as helping to make your classroom a more colourful and welcoming place! More Endangered Animals Resources

Teacher has students turn in texture samples and warm-up (to be used for teacher as a pre-assessment of students’ understanding of texture). Teacher asks for definitions of texture and compiles a list on the board of descriptive texture words used in warm-up as well as called out by students. Teacher explains actual versus implied texture and gives examples. If teacher has computer hooked up to LCD projector, class can look up certain endangered U.S. species here: http://endangered.org/endangered-species/ or they can look up the species that are endangered in their state here: https://www.fws.gov/endangered/ Aiden (age 9) decided to choose an endangered animal not in the book. We were looking at lists of endangered species and snow leopards caught his attention. We printed a photo from Pixabay to use for his poster.

Currently, there are around 250 adult whooping cranes in the wild. However, this number could be much higher as there have been many recent breeding successes with the species. The majority of these whooping cranes spend their summers in Wood Buffalo National Park in Canada, moving on to Texas, USA for the winter. I think having land and not ruining it is the most beautiful art that anybody could ever want to own. All About Endangered Species - Investigate the precious animals that have worryingly lows populations. All this can be attributed to Warhol’s Endangered Species series. The artist propelled the efforts of conservation forward. The images in the series have a double-sword effect as they created awareness that the endangered animals need protection and increased the donations towards this course. Vanishing Animals One of the biggest reasons for the golden lion tamarins’ endangerment is habitat loss and fragmentation. Golden lion tamarins are found in the Atlantic Coastal Forest in Brazil, 85% of which has been destroyed. This makes it very hard for golden lion tamarins to survive and also leads to interbreeding. Interbreeding increases the risk of genetic abnormalities and decreases the overall health of the population.

My kids are 9, 5, and 3. Each of them created an endangered species poster appropriate for their ages. You could go through the presentation as a class and open each slide up to class discussion. Which endangered animals have your class already heard of? Which seem surprising? Despite their appearance, chimpanzees are actually not monkeys. In fact, they are part of the ‘great ape’ family. Chimpanzees are actually our nearest living relatives and share around 98% of our genes.

Curriculum

With the success of Endangered Species, Warhol started to collaborate with others, most notably Dr. Kurt Benirschke of the San Diego Zoo. Together, they authored a book titled Vanishing Animals. Warhol’s contributions were a series of animals on the endangered list.
