About this deal

Before I wanted to study animal care I liked the idea of being a Homicide detective or CSI, now I’m glad I’m not because I have nothing but respect for the men and women that have that profession. No therapist in the world could help with the horrors they must see and they have more courage and guts than most. I like my psycho-thrillers to have an atmosphere of tension, excitement, fear and if there is terror then I simply love it. The author did try to create a similar atmosphere from the very beginning but I felt that somehow he was unable to maintain it.

Jau ketvirtoji serijos apie detektyvą Robertą Hanterį dalis, nuo kitų neatsiliekanti nei žiaurumu, nei originalumu. Chris never fails to come up with the absolute worst ways for his characters to die and, it sounds awful to say, but it does make for one hell of an enjoyable read. You find yourself squirming at the scenes but not being able to stop reading. I started Chris's books with One By One which was pretty horrific (and not entirely original) but it seems his earlier work is where he was his most gruesome. As for the main character Robert Hunter, I like him and he is probably now one of my favourite fictional detectives however he is portrayed as some kind of genius, a child prodigy whose university thesis is mandatory reading for FBI trainees. It usually annoys me having a perfect detective who can solve every crime however it doesn't here because I feel that Hunter is actually quite a realistic and believable character despite this 'perfectness'. When Robert Hunter, a Detective with the LAPD's Homicide Special Section, receives an anonymous call directing him to go to a certain private web broadcast, a show designed specifically for him begins as soon as he logs in.

I am always on the lookout for exploring the works of different authors but the problem is thriller writers are dime a dozen and hundreds of books are out there in the market - all of which are not worth your time. Tracy's personality felt flat and I didn't like her style either or to be honest anything about her. Later, Robert comes to know that all the victims were killed in ways that they most feared. Also, it turned out that the worst nightmares of all the victims had come true. The most important question that bothers Robert Hunter is that how did the killer each of the victims and what was the link between all those random victims?

What are you complaining about?’ he said, returning to his seat behind his large and very messy desk. ‘I thought you all liked easy cases.’ He nodded at the piece of paper in Wilson’s hands. ‘They don’t come much easier than that. The woman sliced her wrists and bled to death in her bed. It’s an open-and-shut case.’

The only difference was that Hunter got to know a woman and possibly will have a more stable relationship for some time and even though I wanted that for him I can't say I liked her or that I felt who they started to fall in love with each other. It made me feel nothing the three times they interacted during the story and at some I was like "oh great another murder so their meeting will be cut short!" I got more feelings while Hunter comforted a relative of the victim than when he met the woman he is going to have a relationship with. I was born in Brasilia, Brazil where I spent my childhood and teenage years. After graduating from high school, I moved to the USA where I studied psychology with specialization in criminal behaviour. During my University years I held a variety of odd jobs, ranging from flipping burgers to being part of an all male exotic dancing group.

Absolut empfehlenswert! Another story with detectives Robert Hunter and Carlos Garcia and this time in my opinion with more gruesome murders committed by the perpetrator. In general I enjoyed the story as much as the previous one's in the series. I couldn’t love this book anymore and it up is up there with The Caller for my favourite in this series. This case proves to be a recurring and horrific nightmare for Detective Robert Hunter as he is asked to investigate the sadistic torturing and murder of the young woman. The crime scene showed that the young woman was stripped naked and was strung from parallel posts.
