About this deal

From a young age, Eva Martinez-Green feels distanced from her mother, not helped by the fact when she is asked to bring in a baby photo to school, she is told by the woman she suspects is not actually her mother her baby photos were stolen. In fact, the earliest photos they have are when she was three and a half years old. Guided by a book they’re reading at school and her newfound friendship with Bridget Blume, Eva begins her quest to understand her beginnings and where she came from.

I was drawn into Eva’s story, and desperately wanted her to find the answers she was searching for. This is a beautifully written novel: painful in some parts, joyful in others. I loved this book SO much. It's uniquely witty, beautifully observed, intricately woven - it made me laugh and weep and I truly never wanted it to end' MIRANDA HART I loved All My Mothers, perhaps even more than The Other Half of Augusta Hope (also by Joanna Glen, which I also really enjoyed). I’d really recommend this beautiful read. My Rating: 4/5 From there, we follow her story of Eva's family. Of families that are created, those that you find, and those that walk into your world unexpectedly. How some people shape you irrevocably, leaving their mark long after they're no longer in your life.

I think the character development is done so well and Eva becomes such a strong woman and has such a strong voice. She’s definitely a character that will stay with me for a long time. Eva’s search to find her “real mother” based on one photograph takes her to Córdoba in Spain. What a beautiful place!! The authors descriptions of Eva’s surroundings were perfect and have me longing to visit. Although Eva’s life could be construed as lonely, she has a best friend, Bridget, who fills the empty gaps perfectly. Bridget’s home is everything Eva dreams of; siblings, noise, mess, chaos - and the most warm and loving mother that ever lived. This is where Eva starts her journey to find out who she is, where she comes from and to try and understand the many variations of motherhood. The plotline of this story is like any dual timeline historical fiction, which focuses on the secrets of the past and how it moulds the future. Two things differentiate this book from fitting that mould more appropriately. The first is that it is not a dual timeline story (I used that description because it gives off that ambience for some reason). The second is how the characters are described and how they fill out their roles and advance the story.

This book was recommended to me by a very good friend of mine and I have to admit I had my prejudices. A novel about various types of mothers? A coming-of-age story about an ordinary Spanish woman? Normally, not my cup of tea. However, this book is painfully beautiful and incomprehensibly undervalued. Let me tell you why⬇️ The vivid imagery in All My Mothers adds another layer of depth to the storyline, making it a truly captivating read. When her parents' relationship crumbles, Eva begins a journey to find these answers for herself. Her desire to discover where she belongs leads Eva on a journey spanning decades and continents - and, along the way, she meets women who challenge her idea of what a mother should be, and who will change her life forever... One of those rarest of books: so beautiful I almost couldn't bear it, and so moving I was reading through tears' STACEY HALLS Tanya has jumped on the BookTok trend and is reading It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover, although she’s not enjoying it as much as the popular author’s previous novel, It Ends With Us. Mimi has just finished what she’s calling one of the best books she’s read in a long time, All My Mothers by Joanna Glen, a novel about motherhood, grief, and love. Both Mimi and Linda are looking ahead to some of 2023’s big releases, in particular, Dust Child by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai. Her beautiful descriptions of characters and places are always effortless.

I think I liked it most for the narrative style as it was different from some of the other books that may hold a similar plotline. Had me absolutely sobbing - a beautiful, beautiful book' JO BROWNING WROE, bestselling author of A TERRIBLE KINDNESS
