About this deal

This was our favorite 50 foot rubber garden hose based on testing and use. This is a versatile, easy-to-use rubber hose that could be used both by a homeowner or a contractor. The hose is durable and the end fitting did not crush when we ran over it with an SUV. This hose comes with high-quality brass fittings and includes a spray nozzle with eight different settings, so you don't have to worry about purchasing one separately. The diameter of a hose can vary from hose to hose. Please understand that although the diameter of the hose itself changes, the diameter of the end fitting does not, meaning, yes, you can connect any of the these hoses to a standard water spigot. Water early or late in the day when it’s cool outside. Using your garden hose during the heat of the day causes some of the water to evaporate, resulting in wasted water and a higher water bill. One of the biggest benefits of using a rubber hose, including this hose, is flexibility. This hose is very easy to maneuver. It won’t wrestle against you as you work and move around the yard. Just remember with that flexibility can also come occasional kinking.

This Stanley Fatmax hose will be perfect for you if you want a heavy duty hose for around the hose. This hose offers up a great combination of durability, flexibility, high flow rate, and kink resistance. The Stanley Fatmax hose could also be used in commercial settings, but just know that some rubber hoses may be a better fit for that application.

But the strength of this hose is ease of use. It is very easy to maneuver and avoids kinking. Here is a video of me straightening this hose. For this article, we combined results from our test team in The Lab in Des Moines, Iowa, with our writers' and editors' own research to bring you this roundup. We tested 30 hoses at The Lab and rated them across a number of top categories, including usability, design, value, size, and durability. We also used 13 hoses in our own home gardens to determine their long-term durability and practicality in real-world scenarios. Those 13 hoses were tested over an additional period of 3 months and we recorded our thoughts on what could be improved and whether we'd continue to reach for the hose after the end of the testing period.

The material of this hose is made with a hybrid polymer blend that is both flexible and kink-resistant. Below is video of me straightening this hose out: Although it is lightweight, we found this to still be a durable hose. The fittings are made with heavy-duty aluminum that did not crush when we ran them over with an SUV. Photo 3 in the section above shows the fitting after we ran it over. The diameter of the hose affects how much water can move through it. Garden hoses range from 3/8" to 6/8" inches. Wider hoses can move several times as much water in the same amount of time, which is especially helpful for cleaning. It will also deliver extra distance on the spray, so you might be able to get away with a shorter hose. Couplings are the fittings on the end of a garden hose. Aluminum or brass couplings are the most common type, but some manufacturers use plastic fittings instead. Couplings are important because they allow users to connect the end of the hose to the spigot as well as pressure washers, sprayers, sprinklers, and other garden hose nozzles and accessories. Additional Features One of the most popular storage options is a hose reel which makes it easy to spiral the hose around a central drum, which evenly distributes the weight and keeps the coils symmetrical.

Although this hose is ultra-lightweight and easy to use, we did not see a sharp decline in flow rate. This Tuff Guard hose has a flow rate of 9.2 gallons per minute, putting it just below the average flow rate (9.3) for a standard design 5/8″ 50 foot hose that we tested. In my opinion, this was the easiest hose I tested for screwing onto the spigot – notice it has a swivel grip for easy attaching (video below). The FitLife Expandable garden hose is great for small projects around the house like watering a flower bed or small garden. It is also great for those that want a hose that will store in small places without worrying if it will get kinked. Also great for those of you who want something ultra-lightweight. It also has an easy-to-connect fitting that was not difficult to screw onto the water spigot. Here is video of me connecting this Flexzilla 50 foot hose to my water spigot: The Ag Lite hose has hand-shaped kink resisters that keep the hose from kinking at the ends of the hose which also help with grip. It has an octagon-shaped design and hand grip end fittings that make maneuvering this hose very easy.

Most (but not all) 50 foot garden hoses on the market will have crush resistant fittings. We tested all of these hoses and found many hoses that claimed they had crush resistant fittings, that did not pass our crush test. Yes, the diameter of your garden hose matters. Hoses with large diameters dispense more water at once than hoses with small diameters. Is a 25-foot hose too short? While this hose is great for commercial applications, it could also make sense for homeowners who need an efficient flow rate for certain types of projects around the house (such as watering a large yard). The Ag Lite Rubber 3/4″ hose had the second best flow rate out of any hose we tested. Hands-on testing took place at the homes of various staff testers, which allowed us to evaluate the hoses in real-world conditions. When it came to reviewing specific models, our engineers and product testers spent more than 12 hours reviewing hundreds of technical and performance data points, including hose dimensions, materials (including lead-free claims), temperature resistance and more.A garden hose’s size is measured by its length, with most models being between five and 100 feet long. If you have a small lawn, a hose such as the Giraffe Tools Five-Foot Garden Hose may be a good option. If you have a larger yard or need your garden hose to weave through a variety of objects, a long hose such as the Flexzilla Garden 50-Foot Hose is a better option. Diameter After three months of regularly using this hose, we're still happy with its overall durability and ease of use. Although it does kink occasionally, the kinks are easy to remove without fighting the hose too much. We also noticed that it has a strong flow, even when coming from a rain barrel, rather than a hose spigot.
