About this deal

There are various panel technologies. Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. The image quality depends directly on the type of the display panel used. We uploaded the brightness measurements and uniformity photos after running the TV for two months in our Accelerated Longevity Test. The extra brightness isn’t limited to mere HDR highlights, either. It also makes its presence clearly felt in full-screen bright HDR imagery. There’s a radiance in sun-drenched daylight shots, for instance, that I’d started to think I’d never see from an OLED TV. As of 11/18/20, Cognitive Processor XR cross-analyses multiple picture elements combined with focal points; recreating human perspective. Verified by Strategy Analytics.

The A90J excels in so many picture quality areas that it’s hard to know where to start trying to dissecting things. Since the new high-brightness panel is so key to the A90J’s premium OLED status, though, that’s as good a place to start as any. Simulating sound from the centre of the screen with two Sound Positioning Tweeters, two front facing speakers and an integrated subwoofer so sound follows action for a truly immersive experience. Dolby Vision content compatible with streaming services or compatible content device connected via HDMI input (sold separately). Upscaling is also first-class on the Sony Bravia XR A90J, displaying excellent image quality with clear edges and superb details. Edges look solid and free from ringing with Reality Creation switched off. When switched on, it does add in some edge enhancement that gives the image a slightly digital but incredibly sharp appearance. The most widely used panels are those with 6, 8, and 10 bits for each of the RGB components of the pixel. They provide 18-, 24-, and 30-bit color, respectively. The actuators serve a much more immersive purpose than simply providing crisp sound. The sounds they generate seem to come directly from the screen, rather than simply the general area of the TV. The result is audio that better matches exactly what you’re watching, and a capable center channel that can be integrated into a surround sound system. It competes with the G1 from LG and the Panasonic JZ1500 in those terms and offers excellent performance Great contrast often leads to great colours, and that’s true of the A90J – with bells on. Sony’s promise to deliver colours richly saturated enough to keep pace with the panel’s high brightness is fully delivered on, as the screen holds on to even the brightest of tones without even a hint of desaturation.

The new processor can upconvert relatively low quality sound sources to a 3D Surround effect too – all, again, in keeping with an over-riding idea of creating a truly immersive, life-like experience. Sony is so confident about the A90J’s audio capabilities, in fact, that it’s equipped the TV with spring clip audio cable connectors so that you can make it the centre speaker in a wider multi-channel sound system. Some of the A90J’s picture presets, especially Vivid, also seem able to overdrive bright parts of the picture to the point where small very bright HDR areas can fleetingly achieve higher brightness levels than the measured figures given above. If you’re looking at the A90J sitting flush to your desktop wondering how you might be able to add a soundbar if you decide the built-in sound system isn’t enough for you, the legs can be attached in such a way that they raise the screen up enough to fit a soundbar underneath. Requires HDR compatible content from supported streaming services or HDR compatible content device connected via HDMI input (sold separately). We test input lag using an HDFury Diva HDMI matrix to measure the amount of time between when a TV receives a signal and the screen updates. In Cinema mode, the A90J shows an input lag of 151.9 milliseconds, which is far too high to be comfortable. However, switching to the Game picture mode makes that lag drop to just 9.9ms. That’s less than half of the 20ms threshold we use to consider a TV to be among the best for gaming. Standout SoundThe A90J gets great value out of its native 4K resolution, too. The impressive shadow detail in dark areas, subtle colour shading and extremely fine light control helps delineate every pixel of image information in a good 4K source. Sony continues to offer superb motion processing options too, enabling you to remove pretty much as much panel judder and motion blur as you feel comfortable with without having to worry about the processing throwing up unpleasant side effects. Dimensions, weight and color Information about the dimensions and the weight of the specific model with and without stand as well as the colors, in which it is offered to the market. Width Remote design may differ depending on country. Interoperability and compatibility among Bluetooth® devices vary. x 2,160 pixels. Game title supporting 4K/120fps required. Game title supporting VRR required. Results may vary depending on the game you're playing. If enabling VRR results in any unexpected visual effects, you can turn it off at any time. The HDR brightness in 'Game' mode is very similar to the HDR brightness outside of ‘Game’ mode. That said, the brightness measured slightly lower than outside of 'Game' mode, especially the real scene brightness. As with SDR, you can set HDR Tone Mapping to 'Brightness Preferred' to get a slightly brighter image, though we expect that this will depend highly on the content. Warming up the TV makes certain Real Scenes brighter, but doesn't change much overall.
