About this deal

If you’re used to playing guitars with wooden bodies and you decide to suddenly switch to an acrylic-bodied electric guitar, you might be in for a few surprises. Here are some things to consider when choosing between wood vs. plastic materials for electric guitar bodies. Why Tonewoods Are The Best Option Acrylic guitars have several names that they are also often called, including “clear guitars”, “lucite guitars”, or “plexiglass guitars”. Whichever name you choose to use, the key thing to know is that these instruments use plastic for the bodies rather than wood. Therefore, anyone who isn’t confident that they can handle a heavier guitar dangling over their shoulder should avoid using an acrylic-bodied model. The Sustain & Tone Myth

Having a clear body makes these guitars look unusual and interesting, which can make you stand out when performing as part of a band or as a solo guitarist. The appearance of these instruments is certainly a major factor in their sustained popularity. A tasteful twist on the classic Ibanez "Tree of Life" design, the inlay design works its way up the fingerboard beautifully Yeah, that pretty much sums up the Esquire. If you thought the Telecaster was as simple as an electric guitar could get, the Esquire has even less to it. Several customers have commented on how colorful and vibrant the material is and how it brings a new life to their guitars. Remove the strings. If you haven’t taken off the strings already, do so now. A string winder can be helpful for this process.Even color combinations that you’d assume wouldn’t work sometimes work out, so it’s worth testing if you have some extra change to spare. Maybe if you chose to invest in a more expensive material like diamond or gold – then you might fuss a little more over budget (note: diamond and gold sheets are not featured on this list). That’s not what I’m talking about, although it’s worth looking into if you’re looking for something specific/different. Based on a Marshall Bluesbreaker circuit, the JHS Morning Glory is perpetually recommended as an excellent transparent overdrive. The V4 allows you to use an external footswitch to select the gain structure remotely. The Looking Glass is a collaboration from DOD and SHOE. It's a smooth overdrive that excels at subtly enhancing your amps tone while remaining crystal clear.

Cut your material. This may be done with different tools. The most common is jigsaws and bandsaws. Take your time. It can be challenging to get the corners right. This low to medium gain pedal from Emerson utilizes premium components and works well as a boost to mid gain drive. Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards is known to have experimented with a clear, acrylic-bodied guitar many decades ago, but there aren’t many examples of other notable musicians choosing them over wooden-bodied axes.Customers note the material is easy to work with, though some were only half satisfied with the quality of the material.

In the heady late '60s, these new plastic-body guitars must have seemed like a possible version of the future. Maybe the days were numbered when only wood could be used for a good professional guitar? By 1967, Ampeg was owned by Unimusic, who fancied another try with guitars to sell alongside the brand's popular amps. They came across Dan Armstrong, and in '68 asked him for some advice about the guitar business. Dan was a respected guitar repairer with a busy workshop, originally across the street from Manny's on New York's 48th Street "music row," but by now on Laguardia Place in Greenwich Village. His shop was well-known to many of the city's musicians and a lot of touring players. Dan also worked as a session guitarist and bassist in NYC: That's him playing bass on Ohio Express's "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy," for example. Later, Valco in Chicago introduced a line of electrics, in 1962, with molded fiberglass bodies, including the stylish National "map shape" models. That same year, Ampeg made a fiberglass-body electric upright bass, the Baby Bass. Is the Spirit a good guitar? Yes it is. Does it sound good? Yes it does. Does it play well? Again, yes. So what's the problem? It looks like an unfinished toy. The Spirit guitar has never been able to shake this stigma. As good as the guitar is (and it truly is good), people just never got used to the design. To decide whether an acrylic guitar is worth investing in for you, we first need to take a look at the key features and aspects of these unusual instruments. What Is a Clear Guitar?Playing comfort is another aspect of the electric guitar that one could argue is subjective. However, it is undeniable that acrylic body guitars are very hard and can dig into your body when playing them. This is one of the strongest arguments for acrylic guitars – they look undeniably cool. The way that their appearance changes depending on how close you are to the body, and how much light is reflecting off the surface is unique, to say the least.
