About this deal

Stories adapted from The Eight Famous Engines use existing characters in place of the Mainland engines. Rather than being divided into the past, present, and future, the eternal continuous moment is divided into the past, present, and future. Important Themes of the Poem Alternatively, there is the original big engine trio of Henry (thin), Gordon (big) and James (short). Lewis, Gwyneth, “ Wrestling with Ronald: R.S. Thomas at 100”, Poetry Review 103.2 (Summer 2013): 91-95 Ward, Jean. “Wounded Faith: R.S. Thomas, Tomas Halik, and Doubting Thomas”, Literature and Theology 27.4 (December 2013): 430-51.

Bardddas 319 (Haf 2013). Includes “R.S. yn ei filltir” by Gareth Neigwl, pp. 30-32; “R.S. yn cael ei drosi” by Ned Thomas, plus translations of three poems by RST into Welsh, pp. 33-35. Tom Lehrer (born 1928), American singer-songwriter and satirist, best known for writing and performing humorous songs in the 1950s and ‘60s Going Forward to Meet the Machine: R.S. Thomas’s Quarrel with Technology”. In Poetry Now: Contemporary British and Irish Poetry in the Making. Ed. Holger Klein and others. Tubingen: Stauffenburg, 1999, pp. 187-99. Dafydd, Fflur. “[A] shifting / identity never your own”: The Uncanny and the Unhomely in the Poetry of R.S. Thomas. Ph.D. thesis, U. of Wales [Bangor], 2005. Wethered, Colleen. “‘The watches of the night’: Henry Vaughan and R.S. Thomas”. Scintilla 17 (2013): 92-100.The earlier storylines, like "Saved From Scrap," implied, but did not show, that characters could be scrapped when they could no longer work. Later, however, some of the books/episodes, like "Stepney the Bluebell Engine" and "Twin Engines" got absolutely vicious with this concept, after the Reverend decided to do a Take That! against BR's Modernization Plan. The way the mass scrapping is portrayed, especially in the books, sometimes goes beyond Fantastic Racism and implies that the characters think of it more like genocide. In the foreword for "Stepney the Bluebell Engine", though, Awdry sets the record straight regarding Percy's opinions that BR officials are cruel and take sadistic pleasure in scrapping steam locomotives, stating that they are not, and that they willingly assist in the preservation movement.

Achievements in Ignorance: In season 15, "Fiery Flynn". Thomas's firebox catches on fire. Let that sink in for the moment. Westover, Daniel. “‘An Echo of an Echo’: R.S. Thomas and Geoffrey Hill”, International Journal of Welsh Studies 1 (2013): 1-18. R.S. Thomas: Claf Abercuawg?” in Tegwyn Jones and Huw Walters, ed., Cawr i’w Genedl: Cyfrol i Gyfarch yr Athro Hywel Teifi Edwards. Llandysul, Gomer, 2008. 245-64.

It will always depend on the required style guide you need to follow, but the most important thing is that you stay consistent with it. Locomotives of different gauges are scaled up or down to run on Sodor's two gauges. This is taken to an extreme in The Great Race, with engines from all around the world running on the same gauge for an Olympics-style competition. Additionally, many American engines can run on Sodor's rails just fine, despite Sodor being a British railway while American engines are far taller and heavier than British engines. Roberts, Harri Garrod. “ ‘[W]hatever / I throw up now is still theirs’: Abjection in R. S. Thomas’s ‘Poetry of Exile’” in Embodying Identity: Representations of the Body in Welsh Literature. Cardiff: U. of Wales P., 2009) 114-135. Thomas, M. Wynn and Tony Brown, “The Problems of Belonging”, Welsh Writing in English, ed. M. Wynn Thomas. A Guide to Welsh Literature, Volume VII. He formed friendships there, a significant one being with the poet and preacher John Jenkins, known by his bardic name, Gwili. There's an entrancement with language and rhythm, a generally elevated tone, and a concern with national identity in "Words" which carry echoes from Welsh poetry, past and future.
