About this deal

The Umbra's theme, Totality, is the term used to say the moment where there is total obscuration of the sun during an eclipse.

This story has a lot of magical characters including Fey, Alchemists, Angels, and more. The author does a good job building the realms and explaining each type of "mystic" character throughout the chapters. She also included a “World Guide” at the beginning of the book, and I appreciate that extra effort made for readers. The prison realm was almost better than the normal realm. The sense in that? Apart from not seeing the sun, everything was pretty amazing. The interactions between the two MCs were so cringey I had to stop reading to take a breath (they helped me remember why I like being single btw). I can’t with the insta lust. The only cute one was when Caius asked Rory to identify the bowl’s color. That’s it. The Star Cannon is best used when The Umbra is about to perform its Shot of the Century ability, as it cancels it out and prevents the loss of base health, which could otherwise lead to a defeat. The Umbra will laugh before it uses its Shot of the Century ability. This can be used to tell when to use the Star Cannon. The Umbra is tied with the Frost Spirit for having the third highest amount of health out of any enemy in the game, only beaten by the Void Reaver and the Nuclear Monster. This book started on such a high note, and then fell off of a cliff and tried to take us down with it. Samyaza had me falling harder in this book than in the first & once I realized it, I was FREE FALLING. His personality & the way he is just hilarious without wanting to be is just, AH. I don't care if he is an intimidating gigantic angel, he is a SOFTIE DEEP DOWN & I love him for it.

The enemies to lovers is done so well the transition feels authentic and entirely unavoidable as they surrender to their mutual attraction. Caius, The Umbra King, is so hot I cannot. At first, I thought he was a little too forward and aggressive, but wow this man had some of the best lines. I giggled and swooned so many times. He seems like an evil king, but the way he takes care of his realm, fell for Rory, and protected her was so sweet. “I will always make your tears my own. We’re in this together.” See what I mean? Sweet man. There was so much filler.. shopping trips and bar scenes that didn’t add to anything. I’d have rather seen more developing of the bad guy. There was so much repetition in similar scenes and Sam and Lauren having the same “no we can’t tell her” convo. Uniquely, The Umbra could be stunned by the Star Cannon. This also prevented the Shot of the Century ability from finishing. I was so excited for this book, bit I felt like it was a bit of a letdown. The ending felt hasty and a bit crazy. Hear me out: so obviously this is a fantasy book and so on but the thing is that even in fantasy books there are certain rules to how the magic works so it is kinda stupid to throw it all over just so Rory can be the scales of justice an so on. I also feel like there was an opportunity lost to talk about the shadows and darkness and so on and it is a cheap shot to say: "yeah, this time it miraculously worked. Although they were so afraid that something bad might happen, everything went just great and all of the sun's are gone now without any repercussions."With a haunting prophecy hanging over his head, Caius races against time to break the magic barrier trapping him in his own realm. With the help of unlikely allies, they discover a solution, giving Caius hope for the first time since Rory’s departure, but it comes at a steep price

of the book was the dramatic FMC ( Rory) hanging out with her friends and shopping dresses for having sex with the MMC( Caius) in her dream (it's called soulscape but still pls✋️). They were separated for the entire 90% of the book except in soulscape and the most annoying part was them having no important talks but just sex🤦‍♀️. This is a dark fantasy, for sure, but where's the damn story? Sam is my favourite side character. He’s this massive, blonde, intimidating Angel. He’s grumpy and a smartass at times, but he cares a lot about his friends, protects them, and fusses over them—It’s the sweetest thing ever. I just wanted to give him cuddles the whole time. GAHHHH this book!! I think I will forever be scarred by the phrase "Time to wake up now" 😭💔 After that brutal cliffhanger in book 1, we're dealing with the aftermath of Rory no longer remembering her time in Vincula and her love for Caius, while she is unknowingly being hunted because of that relationship. My major issue, and what caused me to DNF the book, was our main character Rory. First of all, her name is Aurora Raven. Do with that what you will (again with the YA feeling). Secondly, she was built up (and admittedly started) as a badass vigilante character hellbent on justice for her murdered sister. While she began the story along those lines, I became less and less convinced of her competency and intelligence as the book progressed. Also, if I have to read one more enemies-to-lovers book where the MC has an uncontrollable physical attraction to (what is to her) a literal murderer, I'll scream. STAND UPPPP! Am I not horny enough to understand the appeal of that concept?! Will she be able to retrieve her memories to help her decide, or will she stay in the dark forever, dreaming of a man she should hate?

The Umbra King follows assassin vigilante, Rory, after she is apprehended for killing 13 men. After watching her sister brutally murdered and soul stolen, she vows to avenge her and find her soul. Things obviously go sideways and she ends up thrown into the prison realm of Vincula and at the feet of the Umbra King, Caius. While a little slow to start, I ended up loving this. My pants already carry something much larger.” Sam grinned as he peeled the fruit and took a large bite. The bunch of secondary characters: they felt flat and unimportant. I can’t remember any quality about them. This was the first book since my slump started that I felt completely enraptured, enamoured and thrilled by what I was reading, that I just kept devouring it and wanting to read. Support towers such as the Commander and DJ Booth are crucial since they can boost the firerate and range respectively.
