About this deal

Luna and Owen meet at Markham University and instantly hit it off. He's a golden boy that everyone loves but the only problem is he doesn't really like other people. Luna is aloof and indifferent with very few friends which Owen finds incredibly appealing. The two form a fast and lifelong friendship. However, I noticed that in the last two instalments, Eddie was not the primary character (in his own series) and the courtroom scenes were minimised. They know each other so well, more so than their spouses, and even live within walking distance from each other in the present-tense. They are written with care, and it shows. Long-held secrets come to light, and these two friends realize they might not know each other as well as they thought they did. And that, my friends, is where Eddie Flynn comes in. Carrie already has a high profile lawyer on the case, but Otto Peltier is used to dealing with tax havens and other such financial matters for his mega-rich clients. He’s savvy enough to realise that he’s out of his depth, and turns to Eddie and his team for help. If Carrie is innocent, can they turn the tide of hatred thats flowing around her and prove it?

When he meets Carrie, he sees a woman heavily weighed down by a sense of grief and guilt, her suffering persuades him that she is innocent, although he can feel Carrie has not told him everything as he sets out to defend her. He and his hardworking and talented team, consisting of ex-judge, mentor and now consultant Harry Ford, partner Kate Brooks, investigator Bloch and his over-qualified office manager, Denise, are the only ones who believe Carrie is innocent, and simply another victim of the Sandman. They are joined by Gabriel Lake, once a former FBI agent before someone tried to kill him, he believes everything the FBI knows about serial killers is false, and he is a man who wants revenge. Interspersed throughout the narrative is the perspective of the Sandman, intent on saving and freeing his much loved wife, he is once again killing to protect Carrie, and everyone, including Eddie and his team are a target. I highly recommend it to psychological thriller lovers like me! I couldn’t put it down till the end!I loved the way Lutz crafted this story, by giving me information both from the past and the present that linked together in different ways throughout. The past answered questions about the future, and sometimes even the future would answer questions about the past. If you are interested in reading about Nazi doctors, I highly recommend Doctors from Hell: The Horrific Account of Nazi Experiments on Humans. It is not very long, has pictures, and is written by a journalist, so it is not a very tedious nonfiction read. Did Owen kill Irene and if yes, does this mean he killed his ex-girlfriend in college too? Has Luna been wrong about Owen all this time? Can she live with herself if this is true? Anyone looking for a run of the mill legal thriller won’t find it here. Yes, Cavanagh treats us to some fantastic court scenes with the legal cut, thrust and unexpected humour he is known for. But he is never shy of throwing other elements into the mix and with Carrie’s husband still on the loose and lusting for blood, we’re all set for a story that will keep you up at night, unable to sleep without finding out what happens next. The intrigue of the story only built up over time, not faltering once. This is both impressive and entertaining, as I was fully-focused at all times due to Lutz’s gripping writing.

What’s this horrifying secret Luna hiding from everyone? Not actually everyone: their mutual friend-pot provider Mason already knows who she is but he keeps his mouth shut. What happens if someone learns and tells the people?

When Max, an Auschwitz survivor turned Nazi hunter, sees one of his former tormentors, he enlists his nephew Aaron to catch him. Otto Schramm, doctor and contemporary of Mengele, sent Max’s son to the gas chambers and used Max to experiment on Jewish children. But there’s one problem – the world thinks Otto died two years earlier in a car accident. Everyone has the same questions about best friends Owen and Luna: What binds them together so tightly? Why weren't they ever a couple? And why do people around them keep turning up dead? In this riveting novel from the New York Times bestselling author of The Passenger, every answer raises a new, more chilling question. From the outside looking in, people are often curious about how close the two are. Maybe it's because people have a hard time gauging platonic relationships between a man and woman. It makes them suspicious.

For the remaining survivors of the Holocaust the term “statute of limitations” is meaningless, they still want justice. No one knows how many of Hitler’s murderers remain alive or where they might be, but for the few their culpability in the Nazi death machine should merit capture, trial, and punishment no matter their age or medical condition. As in the recent novel ONCE WE WERE BROTHERS by Ronald H. Batson, the obsession on the part of a few to bring these criminals to justice dominates the story line as does Joseph Kanon’s latest novel, THE ACCOMPLICE. Kanon, a prolific novelist whose books include THE GOOD GERMAN, LOS ALAMOS, ALIBI, and his most recent novel LEAVING BERLIN has once again written a thriller based on what appears to be actual events exhibiting a superb command of history and the characters that have driven it. You know what's the worst thing that will happen to you once you finish the last Eddie Flynn book by Steve Cavanagh? Wonder how to cope until the next one!!! 😱😫 The new Eddie Flynn novel from the Sunday Times and million copy bestselling author of THIRTEEN, FIFTY FIFTY and THE DEVIL'S ADVOCATE. Eddie is informed in no uncertain terms that he will get Carrie acquitted or pay the price so he enlists the help of ex FBI agent, Gabriel Lake, to help him gather the intel he needs. Kudos, Mr. Cavanagh, for keeping me entertained and highly in tune with the world of legal thrillers.

The only element I thought didn't work quite as well was the romance, which felt a bit clichéd. But I did like very much how that ended. I'm not sure what I think about this novel. I may be way too familiar with the subject matter to thoroughly enjoy it, as none of it surprised or was a revelation to me in any way. As an Israeli, I've heard about Eichmann's trial and Nazi hunters again and again, and was familiar with the moral discussions around the issue. Still, I'm happy that other readers would become more knowledgable on the subject through this novel. While I felt the story started to lose a little steam and burn a bit too slowly, The Accomplice is still thriller I can easily recommend. I didn’t guess the outcome of either of the two mysteries, which is a huge plus. Then there’s the whole uniqueness of the male/female friendship aspect. And despite my belief that the writing is pretty standard, it does feature a novel characteristic - that of a truly omniscient narrator. Written in the third person, the perspective shifts almost constantly. In the course of one paragraph, you’ll know what all the characters are thinking. Kinda cool! If even just for these reasons, The Accomplice is an accomplished book that has me looking forward to whatever Lutz will do next.

Owen is charming, outgoing, and rather humorous, while Luna is secretive, particular, and cautious. Despite their differences, their chance meeting created a bond that will seemingly last forever. I really enjoyed getting the investigator's perspectives as well, who were looking into Irene's death. That gave an extra look into Luna and Owen's relationship from the outside. I thought that was a nice addition.
