While training for the Marble League 2020 Friendly Round, the Hazers received an invite from the JMRC to take part in Marbula One Season 1. The team accepted and chose Hazy, "Jetstream", and Smoggy, "Smokebomb", to represent them, believing that they both could translate the team's performance in the Marble League into Marbula One. To clear up the controversy regarding their origins, the Hazers were kind enough to give a hint about their origins through their announcement poster. Marco Del Castillo, a Smoggys Founder, said: “It is down to the support of our nation, that Smoggys has come to life as an operating business, set to make a real difference. With the fires continuing to rage, the smoke blanketing our skies and our volunteers out there giving it their all, the launch of Smoggys couldn’t have come any sooner. Harley, Shaun (16 October 2007). " 'I was made in Middlesbrough' ". BBC News . Retrieved 2 October 2013. Then, the Loftus accent was not the Guisborough twang, and what was said in Brotton was not the same thing as Lingdale chat. I guess the same was and is very much the case in Co Durham, or on the Wear, Tyne and the Tees. Many roots The Hazers were placed in Group A in Marble League 2021 Qualifiers. The team placed 1st after two events. To everyone's surprise, the team fell from first to last in their heat of 5 Meter Relay, finishing 10th in this event. They dropped to 5th in the standings. Smoggy's 3rd place finish in Sand Rally was enough for the team to qualify in 3rd. Like most North East dialects, the definite article is always full and never reduced to t' as in the Yorkshire dialect.

Recently NE Bylines ran a piece on so-called ‘malapropisms’ and how they accidentally shape our way of speaking. And that got me thinking about how our language constantly evolves. Just listen to any newsreel recording from the 1940s or 1950’s – just a lifetime away. The strangled vowels of their received pronunciation (RP) English seem to be thousands of miles away from what we hear around us nowadays.

Note: Events include any kind of individual & team events (friendly events, other tournaments etc.) Explaining the changes in the town’s air quality over the decades, Ms Hedgley said: “With the build up of industry, the pollutants that we saw in the 1940s and 1950s, were sulphur dioxide and soot. She added however that even small amounts of pollution can cause problems for people suffering with conditions asthma. I know there’s problems with traffic congestion and things like that, but that doesn’t seem to be reflected in your graphs.

Cllr Theresa Higgins, Labour councillor for Longlands and Beechwood, said: “Looking at all the stats, I think it’s a good place to live Middlesbrough. But, as I said at the beginning, our language is still poetry in motion. Research by Prof Carmen Llamas
