About this deal

Remote Areas - Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands & Islands, Isle of Wight, Isle of Man and The Scilly Isles Delivery Service On June 12th, 2020, we wrote about The Value of Flagship Beers. It was the first public step with a nod towards a change to the flagship range. In it, we spoke of how the industry is geared towards new, exciting beers and an ever-changing lineup of possibilities. We have no issue with this. That desire for difference inspires our creativity and our drive and ultimately lead to us releasing over 88 unique beers in 2020. We think that’s probably more than anyone’s ever done, feel free to correct us on that! It pours with a beautiful glowing haze, quietly glistening in the surrounding light. A tropical fruit salad of aromas immediately emanates from the glass thanks to a supermassive dry-hop. Azacca brings a punchiness and a touch of pine, Mosaic offers tropical mango and guava, Ekuanot with pineapple notes and all of this balanced by Hallertau Blanc, with trademark white grape and mandarin. Juicy tropical fruit notes, and hoppy aromas of mango and pineapple guide you towards explosive flavour, flashes of delicate citrus highlights and refreshing balanced bitterness. Siren's epiphany of a session beer drinks with a pillowy soft mouthfeel and pours with a beautiful light haze. Later in 2020, and with recipe, name, design and everything else set, we were heading towards our launch date of June 19th.

In its brewing process and ingredients, Siren Craft Brew uses only the crème de le crème of malts (Marris Otter), hops (dry and kettle varieties are used at different stages of the brew for optimum flavour and aroma) and yeast (Vermont) for Lumina. Marris Otter, which is considered the ‘Rolls Royce’ of Bitter, a British style of pale ale, comes in a huge variety of colours, types and strengths from 3% to 7% ABV. Sub-types include light ale (low alcohol bitter, often bottled), session bitter (up to 4.1%; includes IPA), best or special (strength between 4.2% and 4.7%), premium or strong (4.8% or over) and golden ale (summer ale). Porter The Siren Craft Brew range is firmly rooted in Greek mythology. It is said the sirens’ voices entwine into a complex, layered melody, and so do the ingredients that go into making great beer. Ales are darker and fuller-bodied than lagers, as well as being more robust, complex and bitter, with hints of fruit or spice and a hoppy finish. There are many types, including bitter, mild, pale ale, abbey ale and nut brown. Ales have more individual characteristics than lager, though their alcoholic strength is similar. IPA We’ll be putting together the perfect selection of beers and some Lumina exclusives to help, including planispheres that we’ve crafted ourselves - guided of course by astrophysicist advice. In theyears since we launched Lumina, the beer has become our best selling and probably most requested, most well known beer. At the time of writing (August 2023) we have sold just shy of 100,000 cans via our webshop making it our best selling beer, outselling Broken Dream and and Yu Lu combined! Deborah Laing, Director of Fundraising and Communications for Lymphoma Action, said “‘Everyone at Lymphoma Action is so grateful to Siren Craft Brew for their generous contribution. Thanks to wonderful supporters like the Siren team, our charity can continue providing vital information and services to people affected by lymphoma, the fifth most common cancer in the UK.” Red IPA is a style close to our hearts. It’s probably the style that most inspired Darron to start a brewery, and we’ve done our very best to keep it in our range ever since week one. Sometimes loved, sometimes hated, often misunderstood, Red IPAs are unique in that you get the benefit of hearty, biscuity and nutty malts AND the punchy hop profiles required to stand up to that sweetness. In the combination lies magic, and that’s what we’ve tried to create here with our friends at Brew By Numbers. We both enjoy Amarillo in the style, with its orangey aromas working really nicely, so BBNo suggested an addition of Seville Orange Marmalade to embellish those notes. Colour, flavour and one of our favourite ever collaborative designs, we really hope you enjoy this one. We're big fans of Siren at ShortList. Its breakfast stout, Broken Dream, is currently second in our best craft beer list - so anytime the brewer launches a new beer, we sit up and pay attention.

Our founder, Darron said: “It’s a real challenge as a small business right now to cut through, whether that’s getting into pubs where the big brewers have tied up all the access and restricted choice for consumers, or online where we see the big social media platforms unwilling to show our followers organic posts. #LuminaHour is an example of what can be achieved when the amazing beer community comes together, raising an incredible amount of money in the process.” So broadly, Lumina draws inspiration from the celestial world. As the stars have fascinated, inspired and guided us throughout the ages, we designed this beer to be the shining light of our flagship range that you can always look towards. We want this beer to be the shining light of our range, but also the shining light that represents a reliable and yet exciting beer on the bar or on the shelf - quite literally in this case, with its glowing centre point. Tropical Space Juice We then utilise both flaked and malted oats. We decided to use a combination of oats to add depth and volume to the body to ensure a smooth and soft sensation when drinking. The oats make up approximately 15% pf the grist A lot of people might hear "Gluten Free" and think of things like Gluten Free bread. Whilst there's some really good GF bread available, in general it can be a bit of a let down compared to "standard" bread. Studio Parr had already given us our incredible rebranding, the previous year. Our Sirens were brought to life in vibrant, expansive and expressive canvasses that told a story to themselves. Sitting right in the middle of the flagship range in terms of ABV, Lumina was to be the shining light. We wanted it to be an explosion of energy and flavour and the design was to reflect that.

NEWSLETTER

Siren Craft Brew, the independent Berkshire brewery, will today unveil Lumina, the latest Session IPA to join the brand’s range of flavour-forward, quality beer. Lumina unifies years of experience, experimentation, and evolution to create Siren’s most universal beer to date. Expertly brewed in Finchampstead, Lumina is crafted with hoppy aromas of tropical mango and pineapple, enlightening your palate with an explosive flavour, flashes of citrus highlights and a refreshingly balanced bitterness. A beer that everyone can enjoy and appreciate.

And if you are wondering what the hell is going on with the label, all of Siren's cans are heavily inspired by the sirens of Greek mythology. The big hitter of the box, Double Digits is a dank and delicious Double IPA. It’s a great example of how hop combinations can be put together, as Strata and Citra bring the fruit punch, Hallertau Blanc adds mid-notes and depth with light grape and gooseberry, Mosaic helps with tropical tones and dank aromas, while Chinook gives the beer the piney ‘edge’ that we’re looking for. It’s a challenge to make sure these beers aren’t too sweet, so the hops are crucial in that, with enough bitterness to balance things out against the malts and alcohol. We’re delighted with it, and what a pleasure to work with Protokoll in Berlin, who’s bar we’ve been long time fans of. excludes Northern Ireland, the Scottish Highlands & Islands, and the Isles of Wight, Man and Scilly - please see below) Chief lover of the Simcoe hop, our former Head Brewer, Kyle, played a huge part in our professionalisation during his 5 years with Siren. Creative Projects and ideas were always at the forefront, including a fabulous beer brewed for the Van Gogh exhibition for the Tate, along with projects like Project Barista. Kyle and his wife Kacie are now running their own brand, Kings & Daughters, which should soon have its own thriving brewpub. Crisp Pale Ale is a style Kyle has been developing. It’s clean, snappy and makes for classy drinking. We’ve also trialled Aromozyme here, an enzyme that is designed to promote biotransformation (this might be a whole other blog to itself…) - so we’re looking for as much pleasurable aroma and flavour as we can possibly get from the hop additions. Thanks to Kacie for the beautiful illustration. So broadly, Lumina draws inspiration from the celestial world. As the stars have fascinated, inspired and guided us throughout the ages, we designed this beer to be the shining light of our flagship range that you can always look towards.”
