About this deal

The sound of the Tanglewood T6 is excellent, and has great connectivity for extending your sound to other powered speakers or to a PA system. The effects are useable but are very basic, you may wish you add your own pedals, but for the price this amp is a great basis for a great performance. There are many good micro guitar amps around but the model that rose to the top of our ‘best mini guitar amp review’ was the Roland Micro Cube GX – one of the bestselling mini amps of all time. We believe, quite simply, it’s the best amp in its class, and it’s plenty loud enough for some serious practice despite its modest vital statistics. Answer: Depending on the size and power, there is the 10GX, which is the smallest, the 20GX, 40GX, and even 80GX. Question: If I plan to go busking, which is the best option for me? Roland says COSM is an amalgamation of many different modeling technologies developed by Boss and Roland to recreate a specific guitar amp’s characteristics in terms of circuitry, components and sound pathways. It likens it to CGI in the film world where complex software is used to create near perfect simulations of the real thing. COSM and the Micro Cube GX You basically have two controls. The first offers chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo, and heavy octane – which is essentially like using an octave pedal where you hear not only the note you’re playing, but also, simultaneously, the same note an octave lower. Nice on lead work, but it can get a bit muddy on chords. Nice to have though.

This is a terribly cheap option and one that many musicians I know have gone with. For under 100€, this is a tiny compact beast. The speaker sounds fantastic, and a tone control knob gives you slight control over frequencies.A 3 way EQ for me is usually a must, but we can overlook it this time. So here’s the Roland Micro Cube GX’s stats. Don’t worry about the COSM amp models acronym – we’ll explain that later: The runner-up in our aforementioned review, is from the same stable – the Boss Katana Mini. Whilst we can heartily recommend this mini amp, comparing it to the Roland Micro Cube GX isn’t really fair. The Katana is much smaller and certainly not as feature rich. Not in the same league but a great little amp. This can vary depending on the capacity of the batteries and the conditions of use. Accessories Owner's ManualLet’s not forget the Roland Micro Cube GX is a modeling amp which means it goes far beyond conventional amp layouts which may only feature two channels (clean and overdrive), three band EQ and volume and gain controls. I had this amp for five years, and it is the one I have made the most out of. Previously I had a cheap Harley Benton (CG1O X Street) that sounded tinny, and after it suddenly broke, I decided to get this Roland Cube.

This doesn’t enable you to save banks of your own sounds but it does allow you to save one! Noodle around and experiment with the Micro Cube GX’s rich palette of sounds and when you find something you like, hit the Memory button for a few seconds. The metronome is a music-student’s best friend, but that numbing “clank, clank, clank” can get irksome. That’s where the MICRO CUBE RX’s Rhythm Guide comes in handy. It’s like having a drummer inside your amp. Choose from an assortment of groovin’ patterns to practice with. Improve your timing while having a more enjoyable musical experience, or just have fun jamming along to the beats. Outputs Designed as a recording amp, the Yamaha THR5A is not at all limited to just one environment. The effects are of a high quality and very user-friendly. The tone sweep control is very subtle.Combined with high-end effects, the THR5A delivers studio sounds – without a single microphone and wherever you are, with a battery-powered option.

With all this, you get enough types of sound in which to play different styles, and considering they are only amp simulations, they do an outstanding job and come quite close to the real thing, considering price point and size. Of course, some guitarists will definitely prefer a more simplistic approach, but for others needing a broader sonic palette, amp modeling is the way to go. Another benefit is the ability to record awesome guitar sounds direct without the hassle of mic’ing up a guitar cab at ear shattering volumes.

Rechargeable Ni-MH battery (AA, HR6) x 6 Current Draw 155 mA Expected battery life under continuous use Alkaline battery: Approximately 20 hours There are no effects on any of the amps in this series, but this is just as well, because very very few amps come equipped with effects worth bragging about. It is always a better option to choose a pedal, or pedals, which complement your musical stylings. On each effect setting, there is the option to increase (or decrease) the volume of the effect from subtle to full-on.

Features: ¼” Guitar input, ⅛” aux input, four mic simulations (Condenser, Dynamic, Tube and Nylon), digital effects (Compression, Chorus, Delay and Reverb), built-in tuner, USB port, headphone output. In addition, Yamaha supplies an editor software, which works on PC and Mac, that provides three bands of EQ, bass, mid and treble, extensive controls over the reverb/delay, and extra effects (Flanger, Phase, Tremolo and Noise gate) The top panel of the Roland Micro Cube GX is definitely one of its strong points. Its simplistic layout means all controls are at your fingertips and it’s very intuitive. Let’s go through the controls in detail from left to right: i-Cube Link The THR5A is specially designed for electro-acoustic guitars and Yamaha Silent Guitars. Thanks to advanced Yamaha modelling technology, it simulates classic tubes, condenser and dynamic microphones.Your setting will be saved. After that you can toggle between the saved sound and the current settings effectively creating a dual channel amp. You could save a lead guitar sound in the memory and use the ‘live’ sound for rhythm and then switch between the two. The sounds: but first, what in God’s name is COSM? The Roland CUBE Street is designed to be extremely versatile; it is equally at home with a folk singer as it is with a heavy metal musician. It boasts an impressive amount of amp models and effects, meaning that it is possible to perform without the need to carry many pedals with you. We’ve already noted you get the AC adaptor and the i-Cube link cable thrown in. Oh and there’s a chromatic tuner on the top panel.
