Matt is reading a newspaper article about a girl called Scarlett Adams who had been missing for a day after walking through a door in Saint Meredith's Church in London, England. This is the same Church and door that Matt walked through in Evil Star, and as only the five Gatekeepers can travel through that door (with one companion each), and 24 other doors around the world that take them around the world. Matt knows that Scarlett is the fifth and final Gatekeeper but so do the Old Ones.

Jamie Tyler ends up in St Botolph's church in Boston, England where he meets Holly, a Villager. The other four Gatekeepers have ended up across the world, and after coming through the doors they realize that the world they knew has changed dramatically owing to the fact that ten years have passed in the time it took them to pass through the doors. Matt is a Gatekeeper and is a very advanced telekinetic. Matt does not have full control over his abilities and it is stated it can only work under massive desperation. When he uses his powers he sees his kitchen the morning his parents die. However, by the fourth book, Necropolis, he has learned to use his abilities on command as he has met three of the other Gatekeepers. It is mentioned that his powers work through his belief in them. This is how he climbed the sword ladder in Necropolis. He can manipulate almost any object with his mind and was able to create energy blasts while fighting the Old Ones in Peru.

Later, it is revealed that Mallory's death was orchestrated by the cult of villagers from Lesser Malling, as he stood in their way to kill Matthew. Senator John Trelawny is Alicia McGuire's boss and one of the two main candidates for the presidency of the United States along with Charles Baker. While Baker has the support of the Nightrise Corporation, Trelawny is young, popular and charismatic and is in the lead for the presidency.

Richard Cole is a journalist first introduced in Raven's Gate where he helps Matt Freeman out with his troubles with the heartless witch Jayne Deverill. He was a journalist for the Greater Malling Gazette in Greater Malling, Yorkshire, living in York. At the end of the novel Richard pushes Deverill in a pool of radioactive acid when she tries to strangle Matt.The Power of Five series is based on another series of books written by Anthony Horowitz between 1983 and 1989, entitled Pentagram. The Pentagram series was meant to have five books, but only four were ever published. The first was called The Devil's Doorbell, on which Raven's Gate is based. Pedro is the second of the Five and is first introduced in the second book, Evil Star. Pedro lived as a beggar in Lima, Peru. Protect and assist the Gatekeepers and the world, observing possible supernatural events which would hint of the Old Ones;

Alcohol: Steven, a juvenile crime specialist looking after Matt’s welfare, drinks two miniature whiskeys on the train. Richard has a beer at his home. This story begins with two men, Colton Bane and Kyle Hovey, who work for an evil corporation called Nightrise, waiting outside a theatre in Reno, Nevada. They are waiting to kidnap identical twin brothers Jamie and Scott Tyler, who are part of a magic show in the theatre. Their foster parent, Don White, sells the twins off to them, but Jamie and Scott escape and are pursued. Scott is captured but Jamie is rescued by a woman. He awakens at the woman's house, who introduces herself as Alicia and tells that her son, Daniel, was kidnapped by the same corporation after exhibiting clairvoyant powers. She takes Jamie to his foster parents' house only to realize they have been murdered, and escape the police only when Jamie uses his telepathic powers. Senator Charles Baker is one of the two candidates running for the presidency of the United States. He is John Trelawny's main opponent and has been losing the election for the duration of Nightrise. At the end of the book he manages to win the election. Dravid meets Matt and Richard after hours at the London Natural History Museum and explains he is part of a covert group called the Nexus, which keeps the story of Raven’s Gate alive. Raven’s Gate, he tells them, was an ancient circle of stones pre-dating Stonehenge. Powerful, evil creatures called the Old Ones created chaos on earth until a group of five special children overthrew them, sending them into another dimension and sealing off their re-entry point with the stone circle. Somehow, Matt is one of these five children. Though the stones were destroyed, the gate still exists. As Dravid, Richard and Matt try to exit the museum, dinosaur bones come to life and battle them. Dravid dies, and Richard is nearly killed.After a celebratory dinner, the Five decide to return to the Dreamworld. Although Richard is heartbroken that Matt will leave, even though he is not the same Matt that he knew. Matt and the others leave travelling past Oblivion where the Dreamworld lies, in the frozen wastes. The Dreamworld seems to have healed and turns from shades of grey into colourful being. Matt meets the Librarian again, who has with him a woman, who appears to each of the Gatekeepers differently. For Matt she looks like his mother, on the day she left for a friend's wedding and when she died after their car fell off a bridge into a river. In the nearby village of Lesser Malling, Matt meets Jayne’s sister, Claire, whom he recognizes from his fever dream. Claire has a disfiguring birthmark, and all the other villagers, too, seem to be disfigured or mentally ill or both. One apparently normal man, Tom Burgess, warns Matt to flee the village.
