About this deal

Designed for music-makers, by music-makers, QuNexus offers you everything you want out of a keyboard now, and anything you can imagine in the future. Keith set out to create a deeply expressive and adaptable keyboard that can be personally programmed by each artist, but can also withstand the realities of daily use and abuse. The result is QuNexus, the toughest and smartest keyboard on the market. There are 6 other buttons on the left panel of QuNexus. Your classic octave up and down arrows (also can be used as cursors in Live Edit mode), 4 preset buttons (also function as ON/OFF for Toggle, Velocity, Tilt and Pressure attributes) and bend button which you can use for bending pitches.

Keith McMillen Instruments’ unique MIDI controllers conceal incredibly deep features and unparalleled customisability. If you're active in the music production sphere, odds are that you've heard about MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) —over the last few years, it's caused quite a buzz. Even if you haven't used it before, you likely have a basic understanding: MPE is an extension of the standard MIDI protocol that represents expanded opportunity for expressive electronic music production and performance. Preset C (Poly Pitch Bend): This preset allows outputting each key’s message on its own MIDI channel (Channel rotation). You can also think of this preset as having 10 pitch-bend wheels for your 10 fingertips. As I always say, it’s up to you what to choose. But I can honestly tell you that it’s worth every penny in my opinion. It turns out there's 12 sensors for each KBP4 key that, should you wish to, you can individual tailor to your touch. For experts only, I would hazard. OK K-Board

Controllers

There are a couple of different connection options QuNexus offers. Connect QuNexus to your computer By default, the pads are set up so that each row is tuned a fourth higher than the row below it—a familiar layout for guitarists or bassists. However, one of LinnStrument's most outstanding characteristics is that it is highly customizable: it features multiple note layouts, a built-in arpeggiator and step sequencer, modes for CC slider behavior, and countless other options for user customization. If you're looking for a high-end, sensitive, and immediately expressive playing interface, then LinnStrument is one of the best controllers out there. All of the QuNeo’s controls respond to pressure. The vast majority also respond to position, and this is where the QuNeo really sets itself apart from standard controllers. Take, for instance, the 4×4 grid of pads. Each of those pads is effectively also an XY pad and can be mapped to parameters. KMI call this three-dimensional control. When you consider just how many parameters can be controlled simultaneously, the expressive capabilities of the QuNeo are incredibly powerful.

In addition to its MIDI capabilities, the QuNexus can also be connected to modular synthesizers via the gate, three CV outputs, and two CV inputs. With the ability to assign these connections using the QuNexus editor, compatible with both Windows and MacOS, you have full control over your sound and can create unique and dynamic compositions. Its compact size and powerful capabilities make it the perfect companion for music creation on the go. Get your hands on the QuNexus today and take your music to new heights. As I have mentioned in my review here, the main reason for me to buy a controller was to be able to trigger VSTi drums. However, the sensation of being ready for most musical scenarios and being able to control almost everything with this tiny device was also very tempting for me.As you can see, you have 3 tabs Keyboard, Controller and CV (Layers). On the top right, you can adjust global sensitivity to control Gain, On and Off Threshold, and Tilt sensitivity for the keys. You should get an instant answer on whether your application has been successful, though in some rare cases Klarna or V12 may need to look at the application in more detail. I've had great fun controlling both some large orchestral plugins, guitar, brass and other patches and I hope you'll enjoy experimenting with this too. Of course, you might also be able to imagine how much of a challenge this could be. If we have an eight-voice synth that only has a single pitch bend wheel and a single knob for each variable aspect of the sound, how could we possible achieve this level of control? Well, that's where MPE comes in. How Does MPE Work? QuNexus features 4 pre-made presets that you can fine-tune, edit and change within the QuNexus editor.

The QuNeo Red is a new favorite. With a familiar MPC-like layout, the QuNeo may offer a more immediate playing experience for some than the LinnStrument or Morph—and the MPE functionality means that, in addition to playing notes or triggering samples, each pad can simultaneously act like a three-dimensional touch surface for sound manipulation. This can mean finger drumming with unprecedented control of each individual sound—and of course, the other built-in knob/slider-like touch elements can be programmed however you like. MPE seems like an obvious addition to the QuNeo, and we're glad that it is finally officially supported on the QuNeo Red. Sounds more like a manufacturing defect than outside forces especially if it is as common a problem as you are saying. Keith McMillen QuNexus has been designed to control not only your software synths but also send a CV (Control Voltage) which is an analogue way of controlling synths, drum machines or sequencers. Preset D (Drums & Clips): Lastly, this preset is designed for triggering drums and clips when particular VSTis or software are mapped to the general MIDI standards. QuNexus Editor Obviously it’s not possible to move the controls on the QuNeo, but the touch-sensitive response and the level of customisation remind me of Liine’s Lemur app or TouchOSC for the iPad. This is an astonishingly multi-faceted controller which can turn its hand to just about anything. Ultimately, the value of the QuNeo depends to a large extent on how willing you are to get your hands dirty with the editor. If all you plan to do is plug it in and use it as a pad controller, there are cheaper options. But the QuNeo’s versatility is a major selling point for anyone who wants a controller which can be tailored to meet their exact needs. QuNexusConnect the QuNexus Mini port (Labelled as MIDI Expander) to the USB ‘Expand’ port on your MIDI Expander by using a USB A-to-Mini cable. Both devices contain touch sensitive Smart Fabric sensors under every key, to allow expression when you play. I say that because once, when I lived in Sonoma County, I was driving home on a clear day. Suddenly there were droplets on the windshield. Despite everything that it makes possible, MIDI isn't without its shortcomings. MPE was developed to allow finer control of sounds on a per-note basis—but what does that mean? On the other hand, here is an honest remark for you; it’s a bit more pricey than its competitor brands. So for people like me who would just use basic functions and features, this might turn off some of the potential buyers when you can get a simpler controller for much cheaper prices.

Equipped with 25 keys, the QuNexus's keybed can detect pitch, velocity, slide (y position), and pressure. This MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE) capability enhances your playing experience and allows for a more expressive performance. You can send these dimensions of expression to your instruments as a variety of different MIDI messages and control voltages. Pitch and velocity can be sent as MIDI Note-On/Off messages, as well as gate and control voltages compatible with analog and modular synthesizers. Furthermore, key pressure and tilt can be configured to be sent using MIDI messages such as pitch bend, aftertouch, poly-aftertouch, and control changes. This enables you to have precise control over the nuances of your sound. Turns out we were right under the emergency approach to SFO int airport in San Francisco. That day they had an emergency landing... Another thing I need to mention is that the “ Bend” button is not that expressive for me. Not really sure if it’s me who has messed up the settings, but even after I had expanded the range of it via QuNexus editor, it still felt a bit narrow in terms of range. The Keith McMillen QuNexus MPE MIDI-CV Mini Keyboard Controller in Red is a powerful and versatile music tool that will take your performances to the next level. Featuring 25 touch-sensitive keys, this keyboard controller detects velocity, polyphonic aftertouch, and per-key tilt, giving you unprecedented control and a wide range of musical expression. Also, with the provided QuNexus editor , you can freely assign any MIDI CC to velocity, pressure or tilt attributes. Redesigned with an ultra-durable ABS-polycarbonate red enclosure, the QuNexus RED from Keith McMillen is the same compact, feature-rich, 25-key MIDI/CV controller you know and love, but with a few upgrades. Aside from the aesthetic change, the new QuNexus is fully equipped to handle the MPE software and hardware.
