Things appear to be wrapped in some form of fantasy, where Erin would run away with her abductor and raise children together. This outlandish narrative may be the one things that helps Erin stay alive, as long as she can bide her time and not refuse any of his demands. Still, it will take an act of great courage for Erin to toss off her restraints and return to the man she claims to truly love. I didn't mind the story but I'm not sure I like the characters. Neither of them seemed overly sympathetic and they had a real abrasive way of talking. I think (and I may be wrong) that it's just the New York accent but I'm sure that most New Yorkers don't always sound so harsh. I wanted more variety in the speech, some emotions now and again. Per his usual style the author(s) have included several subplots that keep things moving at a rapid pace. There’s a bombing at a high profile event, the murder of a controversial filmmaker and a robbery at a high stakes poker game among other things, plenty to keep you on your toes, I can’t say I was ever bored for one minute.

There are a bunch of little sub-plots that run through the novel involving the two main detectives, Detective Jordan and Detective McDonald. It seems they have a past dating relationship and that causes some issues. BUT, they are the top two Detectives in New York and they have a very unorthodox way of solving crimes, they break the rules! What made it even better is that there is a British computer geek character named... wait for it... Matt Smith. Now I know that's a really common name, but the fact that he always seemed to be blundering in at all the wrong moments made it quite easy for me to picture the Doctor showing up in modern-day New York, stranded without his TARDIS (it obviously got lost in the space-time continuum somewhere), and deciding to help out the New York police department catch a serial killer before he went off to save the world. Headcanon, 1000% accepted. In New York City a vigilante serial killer is murdering people who have apparently evaded justice. The killer dresses the victims in Hazmat suits and leavies them in public places, seemingly as a warning to other criminals. NYPD Red 7: The Murder Sorority” starts off with two murders. First, a sniper marksman takes the life of Warren Hellman, a high profile movie producer, as he leaves the court following his being found not guilty of intentionally killing a well-respected New York detective. Across town, his brother, Curtis Hellman, is found dead on a jogging pathway along 102nd street. Someone left him with his throat slashed. But the thing is, sometimes I want to watch "Olympus Has Fallen". And sometimes I want to read the cheesiest James Patterson novel I can find.As if that weren’t enough for the two detectives, they are drawn into a robbery at a high-stakes, private poker game. Could one of the players be involved in the heist? And are Zach’s suspicions about one of the players valid? At the same time, as the body count rises, can Zach and Kylie find the answers they need to capture the murderer and put an end to the killings? But Karp’s latest, NYPD Red 7: The Murder Sorority, tops them all, making it a must-read-now! This third novel in the NYPD Red series centers on two of the NYPD Red detectives, Zach Jordan and his partner Kylie MacDonald. NYPD Red, an entity invented by Patterson for his series, is an elite and well trained unit that has the job of protecting the rich, the famous and the well connected. This duo get called into a case in which the headless body of a man named Peter who was the chauffeur of one of New York's most powerful men, Hunter Alden, is found in the garage. Alden's son also goes missing and a witness swears he and his friend were kidnapped. Alden denies his son is missing and is reluctant to help the police. Zach and Kylie, who are both trying to sort out their own problems with domestic partners, must put their issues on hold to determine what is happening concerning the murder and alleged kidnapping cases assigned to them. The plot of this novel is full of very unexpected twists and turns. This first book in a new series was given to me over Christmas and seemed like a perfect choice to read on a coach trip.

In book one we meet a killer who is targeting those in the movie industry. From the beginning, we know who the killer is and why he is killing his victims, which he writes like a movie scene to play out in his head. Now, 3 stars is good for me in my rating system which is an "okay" but still enjoyable enough. the storyline just wasn't perfectly as executed as I would have liked it to be, but it was still a fun read. There were a few things I thought were kind of random, and felt like one of the stories with the second case Zach and Kylie had to take on was unnecessary and the story of Zach looking up a particular person without a friends consent (only to protect them) was an okay add on, but three separate stories, plus having to go out of the country for 5-6 chapters or so... it felt like Patterson and Karpp didn't know what to do with this story, but it's a good thing they've created great and fun detectives: Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald. I seriously freaking LOVE these two! so they pretty much saved this story for me. I thought these were handled pretty well. There were elements of Zach's story that seemed like pretty large coincidences, but if a reader isn't willing to accept a convenient coincidence here and there, it might be time for a new hobby. I do think that story was handled pretty well. I'd have to go and look at my posts about the first two books in this series to see if I say anything about it—but I don't want to. I'm pretty sure that at the time I thought the books spent too much time on the personal lives of these two detectives. To an extent, it made sense while establishing the characters, but I still thought the balance was off. Perhaps it's because this is a later book in the series, perhaps it's the shift in authors, maybe it's just the way things worked out here in NYPD Red 7—I'm not sure I care—but that problem is gone. I even paused to note a couple of times how compared favorably to my memories of the first two books.I feel like I should apologise when I give such a high rating to a book like this. This is a book with absolutely no nutritional value. It is the "Olympus Has Fallen" of books.
