About this deal

Per 1 cup: 160 calories, 1.5 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 250 mg sodium, 25 g carbs (4 g fiber, 9 g sugar), 13 g protein When grabbing a box off the shelf, make a point of steering clear of the three C's: crunch, crisps, and clusters. This trio is typically code for clumps of rice held together by sugar and fat, like in these Honey (aka corn syrup and caramel color) Bunches of Oats. Kashi Heart To Heart Oat Flakes & Blueberry Clusters By then you have arrived at Mesa Arch and if you haven’t been to this spot before to explore it a bit, you will have no clue what’s in the dark. Once the sun starts rising and the world starts lighting up, you will experience the grandeur of the vistas opening up behind Mesa Arch. Sunrise at Mesa Arch is just pure magic! Per 1 cup: 253 calories, 5 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 187 mg sodium, 51 g carbs (4 g fiber, 17 g sugar), 4 g protein

Stand in front of any of the “professional” photographers. They will get really annoyed because unlike you, they have been waiting for this moment for their whole lives and they actually know that they just get one shot to capture that one moment they have been dreaming for ever since they were born. I would get annoyed if I were them, too. With the simple steps below that basically have nothing to do with photography itself, you will make a big step towards getting this awesome shot yourself and capturing the sunrise at Mesa Arch yourself. Anyone can do this, you don’t need to be a photographer. I am most certainly not and just tried a little to capture the Mesa sunrise. Here’s how I did it! Plan ahead to capture the best sunrise shots of Mesa Arch: 1 | Get to Mesa Arch early (really early!) How does a cereal called "Waffle Crisp" sound? Pretty unhealthy, right? What about "Good MOREnings?" Better? Not really. They're essentially the same thing—same ingredient list, nearly identical nutrition information—just one is rebranded to make it appear healthier. It's not. This cereal is one of the few remaining boxes that contain artery-clogging trans fat, partially hydrogenated soybean oil. Cinnamon Chex

A summary of the ingredients list: rice, sugar, wheat, sugar, rolled oats, sugar, dried blueberries, sugar, oil, artificial colors, and flavors. This should be a hard pass. Special K Nourish Coconut Cranberry Almond Summer: it’s usually even busier in summer so, if you want to grab one of the most coveted spots you’ll need to plan to get there at least 2 or 3 hours in advance. If it weren't for the seven different types of sweeteners added to this cereal, sugar would be the first item found on the ingredient list. If you want to nourish your system, try doing so without ingesting highly processed foods like soy protein isolate, modified corn starch, acacia gum, and the potentially carcinogen-containing preservative, BHT. Quaker Oatmeal Squares Golden Maple Per 1 cup: 160 calories, 3 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 240 mg sodium, 33 g carbs, (1 g fiber, 11 g sugar), 1 g protein When at the parking lot, put on your headlights and walk. You will not be the only one and not be the first one. The real photographers have gotten up way before you and have beaten you on the best spot. However, don’t be discouraged because there’s plenty of space for about 10 people at least without being in each other’s way. Summers are most busy so you may want to arrive super early.

Camera and Lens: I used a Sony 16-35mm lens on a Sony A7rII to shoot the sunrise at Mesa Arch. While the 16mm wide angle lens was fine, a wider (i.e. a 12mm or 14mm lens) would give more flexibility when capturing the vista with the entire arch in frame. A photographer beside me on the day had a 12mm ultra wide and the photos were incredible. Be late. I was about the 6th or 7th person to arrive at Mesa Arch, by the time I left and the sun had completely risen, there were about five times as much visitors. Most of them were too late. Too bad for them. Some even asked me if they could have some of my pictures. Following a gluten- or dairy-free diet doesn't mean you have to compromise on taste. Not only is Mesa Sunrise fully certified by Coeliac UK and The Vegan Society, it's full of flavour and irresistibly crispy too.The certified-organic ingredients inside our flakes have been grown in harmony with nature, reducing exposure to toxic synthetic chemicals and GMOs. It's the positive choice for our bodies and for our planet. Per 1 cup: 190 calories, 1 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 230 mg sodium, 47 g carbs (8 g fiber, 19 g sugar), 5 g protein The downside is that Mesa Arch is a magnet for photographers and sunrise chasers. On most mornings it is common to see a crowd of photographers perched onto the small ledge in front of the arch waiting for sunrise. It can be a bit of a jostle to protect one of the coveted spots with a perfect view of the vista but most are respectful and stay out of each others frame.

Because it touts its 18 grams of whole grains on the front of the box, alongside words like "multigrain" and "plant foods," you might initially think Life cereal was a safe choice—until, that is, you read the ingredient list. There you'll see that the cereal pieces aren't even made of whole grains, but a medley of flours (most of which, are in lesser quantities to the sugar that's added). On top of that, Quaker also adds oil-derived artificial colors, Yellow 5 and 6. Quaker Real Medleys Cherry Almond Pecan Multigrain Cereal Mesa Arch is busy at sunrise so you need to get there early if you want to secure a prime photography spot. Wake up early! It’s about a 45-60 minute drive to Mesa Arch parking lot from Moab and from there another 15 minute walk to the arch. In my case the sun would rise just before 06.00 am, which meant I got up at 03.30, took off at 04.00 and got to Mesa Arch at about 05.00 am. I wanted to be sure I was in time as it would be a once in a lifetime for me.Mesa Arch sunrise tip: we were there 90 minutes before sunrise during our winter visit and got one of the prime spots. All the good spots were filled about 60 minutes before sunrise. Don’t just watch the sunrise through your lens. Be present and enjoy the sunrise as much as the photography experience. The most important planning tip is to know exactly where the sun will rise on the horizon from the perspective of the view under the arch. This changes throughout the year and will dictate where you choose to setup at the arch. We use an app called PhotoPills ( Apple / Android) which allows us to know exactly when and where the sun will rise. It was invaluable at Mesa Arch.

Per 1 cup: 147 calories, 1.5 g fat (0 g saturated fat), 130 mg sodium, 19 g carbs (3 g fiber, 15 g sugar), 7 g protein Book a flight to Salt Lake City, Denver or any other city that you can rent a car from. Then take the drive to Moab and find yourself a place to sleep.Let yourself get discouraged by people saying it’s not the sunrise you will expect. If you keep expectations low, you will be surprised, just like I was. Be patient. You will be there early and most likely will have to wait another hour. When the sun rises, it still takes a while to get the orange glow on the arch. In the beginning I thought “is this it?” but once the glow started … I couldn’t stop taking pics.
