I thought about buing a UHMW sheet as a mouse pad, because I expected it to be a cheap, large and durable hardpad now that cheap part didn't turn out to be as true as I thought but while researching I found out that you can buy sheets of PTFE that actually are insanely cheap. I turned to half-face Helen, still holding Tara’s booted foot, and said “ah yeah... I was just umm... wiping off, umm...”

Jenny also said “Helen also told me that you make coffee for Tara every day, and often go out to fetch her lunch.”Tara continued “Unfortunately, I will have to wait until lunchtime to find out whether my shoes can be repaired or not. And either way, I won’t be left with sufficient time to have my lunch!”

Without even looking at me, Tara said “Thank you for that, but I suppose I should go and do this paperwork”, and then she walked through reception to her office. On Thursday, Tara arrived at work and came over to my desk to say good morning. Then she said “You know how you cleaned my shoes on Monday? Well... Can I ask you a really big favour?” Brian said that Helen was going to apologise to Tara. Brian wanted everyone to put the incident behind us, and for everyone to get along better in future. Tara said good morning, then smiled sheepishly before saying “I’ve got another favour to ask... I’ve got two suits that need drycleaning. Would you be able to take them to the dycleaners for me? The same ones that cleaned my blue coat.”I asked why not and Tara said “Wellll... I’ve only been working here six months and I’ve already made one complaint... about Andrew harassing me. I don’t want to get a reputation as someone who is always complaining about other people. I think having such a reputation might have an adverse effect on my chances for promotion.” Helen said “So you got him to clean your boots??? You couldn’t wait til you’d finished your lunch and clean em yourself???”

Tara sheepishly said “You did such a good job cleaning my shoes on Monday... and I wondered if you might help me out with another cleaning job?”

I said “Sure”, then realised Tara probably meant I should clean her boots on Monday at my desk, to stir up Helen. I began to wipe Tara’s boot while I answered Helen’s question. As I was speaking, Tara moved her foot up so her foot was resting only on my leg. I continued to talk to Helen, and to wipe Tara’s boot, but I glanced up at Tara’s face. She was grinning and looked like she was trying not to laugh. Tara said “No??? So why would you pay for my food? And my shoes the other day? You don’t buy lunch for any of the other staff!” Eventually traffic and storage was getting too large for the original servers, and we had probably several months if not years of constant server changes.
