About this deal

Restoration Comparisons (1080p): Revealing the stark differences between the 2007 and 2022 restorations. Together, the films tell the epic story of the Corleone family, one of five that control organized crime in America in the mid-1940s. The Godfather opens with patriarch Vito (Marlon Brando) at the height of his power, celebrating the wedding of his daughter Connie (Talia Shire) and the return of his youngest son Michael (Al Pacino) home from fighting in World War II. Vito’s eldest, Sonny (James Caan), is poised to step into his father’s shoes with the help of Vito’s adopted son and consigliere, Tom (Robert Duvall). The idealistic Michael has just met the girl (Diane Keaton) he plans to marry, and has ambitious plans for a legitimate career in business or politics. Meanwhile, Fredo (John Cazale) is also there, quietly undervalued by all of them. But when Vito denies rival families involved in the narcotics trade the protection of his paid-for political connections (because he believes drugs are dishonorable), they try to assassinate him, and Michael is drawn ever more deeply into a life his father had hoped he’d escape. This UHD boxed set of The Godfather trilogy includes all three films, including no less than three cuts of the third film: theatrical, 1991, and Game of Thrones: Season Six* (US/ UK) – 4/12/21 – Complete Series REVIEW – N4K (Seasons 5-8), DV, DA Deathdream (1974) (aka Dead of Night) (US/UK) – TBA 2024 (confirmed by Blue Underground) – N4K, DV, DA

Caan recently told The Hollywood Reporterthat he was “so pissed off” after learning that Coppola cut one of his major scenes and went so far as to walk out of the screening.

War changed a generation. Vito Corleone (Marlon Brando) approached the business through thoughtful considerations, always seeking to defuse rather than inflame. A brutal man, but never without thinking of possible repercussions. His son, after defeating Germany and Japan, sees himself as invincible. Vito resisted business changes that included illicit drugs; Michael finds the potential profits intoxicating, and anyone holding him from his new American ideal an enemy.

Full Circle: Preserving The Godfather—Paramount Pictures archivists detail the incredible restoration process with archival footage showing the evolution of the film through various home entertainment incarnations as picture and audio technologies make quantum leaps over the decades. The third installment in the trilogy opens with the Corleone family in decline. Their lavish Reno estate has been abandoned, and Michael is trying to legitimize his family by connecting its finances to the Vatican. Meanwhile, Sonny’s illegitimate son, Vincent, wants to continue a life of crime, much to Michael’s consternation. And, yes, there’s a bit of comparing and contrasting going on between the mob and the Catholic Church. not even small a small studio logo. Commentary on curated archival images makes for a fascinating, never-before-seen addition to the production’s history.

There’s been a lot of stories told about who is responsible for what and why The Godfather came together so well. As one of the finest pieces of American filmmaking, if you’re discussing if it’s all because of Mario Puzo’s great story or if it’s Francis Ford Coppola being a meticulously detailed director or if it’s because of Robert Evans’ own claim for responsibility, it’s important to remember the film is great. It’s a perfect collaboration of amazing talent. There was a lot of conflict during its production but like steel sharpening steel - it only made the film better. restoration in the time of Covid since the previous work in 2007, spearheaded by Gordon Willis and Robert A. Harris. The Godfather, however, introduced us to two kinds of families – Vito Corleone’s personal family and his mob one – while offering up characters who had layers to them. Sure, Sonny is a hothead, but it’s calm and cool Michael who ends up ascending to the throne by the end. The film is the story of Michael going from a decorated World War II veteran who tells his girlfriend “That’s my family, that’s not me” in the beginning to a Mafia don who rules with an iron fist and closes his wife out of his business dealings.
