About this deal

In contrast, Eversolo’s portfolio of products does fit squarely within my realm of interest. There are a couple of compact portable USB DAC/headphone amplifiers, a pair of desktop DACs with integrated headphone outputs, and their latest product which is under review here today – the DMP-A6 streaming DAC. The DMP-A6 is compatible with most streaming services and you can get these playing with ease. Switching to the digital inputs is also easy from the internal menu system or the app. There is a new Bluetooth remote that has also been released, allowing for easier control when sat further away from the unit. With its audiophile-quality preamplifier, the Eversolo DMP-A8 streamer is designed to enhance all sources of a hi-fi installation. To do so, it features a wide range of connectors, with RCA and XLR inputs for connecting a pre-amplified turntable or a CD player. The AKM DAC can be used for your digital sources thanks to six inputs, including two coaxial, two optical and a USB-B port to use the DMP-A8 as a USB DAC with a computer. Finally, the HDMI ARC port allows you to connect a TV. As for outputs, there are several digital ports to connect an external DAC, as well as RCA and XLR outputs for perfect compatibility with any hi-fi or power amp. The Eversolo DMP-A8 preamplifier and DAC benefits from a wide range of connectors with analog and digital inputs to easily connect all your sources. Eversolo DMP-A8: the streaming king You can also easily run your CD player or other digital transport into the DMP-A6 and take advantage of the exceptionally clean internal DAC and pre-amp circuits. It works very well as a digital hub for streaming and DAC duties and is excellent as part of a headphone system running it into an external headphone amplifier.

The Eversolo performed skillfully as a transport using either coaxial or optical connections. It displayed the usual traits I associate with that task being expertly handled – convincing transient snap, precision imaging, impressive dynamic contrast, and a spacious soundstage. Despite the Eversolo being the least expensive component in the chain by a considerable margin, it never felt like a weak link. Switching to USB did make a noteworthy improvement in tonal density and dynamic scale, and I would thus choose that option ten times out of ten. That said, my experience is that the Aquarius DAC almost always performs better via USB than SPDIF, so I can’t say how much of this improvement lies with the Eversolo versus the DAC itself. So where do we start? The DMP-A6 has so many features it’s easy to get lost in them, but when setup you’ll find yourself using probably only a fraction of them. As a transport its pretty tasty, to give some comparison i was running a Naim Uniti Atom for a number of years but replaced it with DMP A6 & Gustard DAC and my system has never sounded so good. Slip-sliding review windows is the only way I can squeeze the Eversolo into my already late-running schedule — and I am doing so 1) because the DMP-A6 is easily the most requested product review of 2023 and 2) it will turn our existing duo of sub-€1000 streaming DAC review videos on the FiiO R7 (€699) and Bluesound NODE X (€799) into a nicely rounded trio.

It has the control and agility to deliver... exactly the right level of intensity...the DMP-A6 would be comfortable fronting a very capable digital-only system if you need it too. The transport functionality is arguably even more impressive.

The DMP-A6 Master Edition can be controlled from a smartphone or tablet using the free Eversolo Controller mobile app. This will allow you to simply access your music while enjoying a remote interface for easy use from your sofa. Specifications Model The basic platform that underpins most Zidoo devices is more than up to the job of being a streamer so it should not be too much of a surprise to find that the Eversolo is similar to the Alpha players in terms of its core architecture. The platform is built around an ARM Cortex A55 processor and uses a customised Android 11 interface as the basic operating system. This is capable of reading content over a network or from an internal hard drive bay that supports drives up to two terabytes. No drive is supplied as standard in this instance. The DMP-A6 Master Edition is equipped with an integrated memory 4GB DDR + 32GB eMMC to be able to use many applications. The high-definition 6" LCD touch screen perfectly integrated into the aluminum chassis of the DMP-A6 Master Edition allows practical and ergonomic use. The user experience is intended to be as intuitive as possible. Thus, it is possible to access all player options and information through this beautiful interface.

The flexibility of the Eversolo DMP-A6 is truly impressive and there are so many ways it can be incorporated into a system that it’s hard to find somewhere it won’t work well. CONCLUSION First up we have the streamer side of things. The DMP-A6 accepts wired Ethernet or Wi-Fi to connect to the internet and once connected many devices will see it on the network and you will be able to start streaming straight to it. Personally, I use Roon as I have a core that has a mix of CD rips and Qobuz streaming and Roon found the DMP-A6 very easily and the whole connecting process was very straightforward. Neither am I done with the comparisons to the Neo Stream. I maintain that iFi has the best affordable MQA decoding in the industry but the DMP-A6 runs it very close which makes it a formidable option for Tidal Connect. There’s a certain irony that, just as MQA’s future is looking uncertain, hardware is hitting the market that manages to overcome some of my earlier reservations about how it sounds but, whatever happens, the DMP-A6 has you usefully covered in this regard. The Eversolo DMP-A8 streamer also features a dual power supply, with a toroidal transformer for the audio circuits and a switching power supply for system elements such as the screen and the processor. This reduces interference and optimizes transparency. The preamplification stage has also been revamped and now has an entirely balanced architecture. Volume is controlled passively via a system of ultra low noise resistors and relays. The goal: to optimize the signal-to-noise ratio and preserve the finest details. Thanks to its dual electric power supply and balanced preamp with passive volume control, the Eversolo DMP-A8 network player ensures a transparent, natural and highly detailed sound.
