About this deal

Optical switches are gaining popularityin both gaming keyboards from big brands, as well as budget keyboards from smaller brands. SP-Star Switches include the Polaris (Nylon Bottom, PC Top), Meteor (Full Nylon Housing), Melon Soda (based on Polaris and Meteor), and Magic Girl (Medium Tactile switches).

The other type is mounted below the PCB and sits flush with the top side. Bottom-mounted SMD’s are compatible with any type of switch. The lighting may only be hindered by the opacity of the switch itself. Additionally, even though it is less tactile than the Zealio V1s, it is still an enjoyable switch to type on due to the weighting and the outright smoothness out of the box! It also helps that the start of the tactility is right at the top of the travel (zero pre-travel), a cool bonus in my opinion. Overall, they sound absolutely great. I think with some modifications, you can easily make them sound the way you want them to be. Typing Performance: 8/10UHMWPE is known for its toughness, resistance to abrasion, and low coefficient of friction, making it comparable to Teflon and PTFE in smoothness. How light or heavy the switch is. While many switches will list both actuation and bottom out force in grams required, more enthusiast-level switches and springs will typically only list the bottom-out force. The Silent Sky has long been one of the top choices for a Silent Tactile, and Gazzew’s Silent Tactile stem does not disappoint for fans of modest tactility and silent operation.

The Gazzew Boba U4T is one of the most sought-after tactile switches in the custom mechanical keyboard world. It comes in 4 common variants – RGB and opaque housings with both offering a 62 and a 68g spring weighting. Although, this review will mainly focus on the 62g opaque housing. The solution is to swap the spring for a lighter one, often rated between 60 and 70g bottom out, like the MX Brown spring. The result of this spring-swap is the Ergo Clear switch, what many enthusiasts believe to be the best form of a Cherry MX brand tactile switch. Peak Force

Overall, it’s quieter and better sounding than a rubber dome. It’s a pleasant-sounding switch. Typing Performance: 7/10 How common this issue may still be is unclear, but it does not seem to be nearly as widespread or even mentioned as much as in the past. Kailh Box switches remain a popular and practical choice despite the stigma. IV. Brands and Manufacturers 8. Cherry MX and Friends – Brands and Manufacturers The Glorious Pandas above are “clones” of the Holy Pandas. Though there might be tiny differences in materials, sound, feels, etc, they’re very similar switches. Reds are typically recommended as the “best for gaming” due to the speed and smoothness of the keypress. In terms of actual feel. They are in-between the MX Clear and the Zealio 67g (V1), but much closer to the feel of the Zealios. Additionally, the tactility starts at the top of the travel; there is zero pre-travel unlike the other two switches. In reality the T1s feel like a zero pre-travel Zealio switch with a slightly lighter spring and a slightly less tactile bump. For gamers and typists who demand high speed for more commands and keystrokes per minute, speed switches are designed to make your keypress up to twice as fast as a normal mechanical switch. Kailh Polia Switch RGB SMD Pinks Tactile Switches 3pin Switch for Mechanical Keyboard mx stem Purple... Today, brands likeAce Pad,Wooting’s LekkerandSteelseries’ Omnipointhave adopted Hall Effect technology into their own keyswitches, even allowing you to adjust the point of actuation.

These switches are also suited for both fast and slow-paced games as its dampening pads meant that it was extremely quiet in slow-paced games whilst providing adequate tactility in faster-paced games. Some switches pullers may scratch your plate, and depending how tight the plate is, may even cause irreparable damage to your switches. SMD switches tend to have a large cutout in the bottom, and a transparent top housing which may or may not have a slot cutout as well. Overall, these are far from the worst gaming switches I’ve tried. In fact, they’re a good option for gaming if you really love your heavy, actually tactile switches, but I wouldn’t place them near the top for this category. Final Score = 41/50 (82%) Examples of switches with noticeable stem wobble are the Outemu Sky tactile switch, and Razer Huntsman’s Optical switches (which ironically have a stabilizer wire in each switch). Smoothness
