About this deal

I mostly use the iOS app to change settings but for some reason you can’t change the centre channel this can only be changed using the SK10Y remote. If you have th Android app it does have the centre channel setting. The 6 driver DM55 is the smallest of a range of soundbases from Canton, an established and well respected German brand. The 55 stands for 55cm (width). They also do a DM75 (8 drivers ) and DM100 (10 drivers) at 75cm and 100cm wide respectively with higher specs. But the DM100 isn’t all about that bass. First-class mid-range and treble reproduction lends impressive clarity and vigour, heightening the excitement when the action hots up. The snap of gunfire is fierce but never coarse, plus every scene is teeming with incisive top-end detail.

The Canton DM75 Soundbase is the perfect match for a larger TV that's in a bigger room. This type of home cinema speaker has gained a strong foothold in the market with its discreet design, superb built quality, powerful bass, and crystal clear details. It delivers an outstanding performance.Sonos can operate in two modes: standard wireless mode and bridge mode. In bridge mode, all the Sonos components connect to each other directly, forming an ad-hoc network. This makes for a very robust wireless system, particularly if you have difficulty with wireless reception around your house. As TVs get thinner, the laws of physics dictate that sound quality must get worse! There’s simply no room for decent speakers. Hence the rise in popularity of sound bars and bases. The difference between them is simply that sound bars usually sit in front of the TV whereas sound bases normally sit underneath the TV. However both have options for positioning them elsewhere. This model also boasts several upgrades from the previous DM soundbases. One of these is a new Bluetooth select function that automatically switches to Bluetooth when it detects an audio signal. For me this is the best downgrade I've made and I don't miss my surround sound that much. Specially when I will be buying one the bk subs.

Canton’s DM 50, reviewed last year, is perhaps best used with TVs around the 48in mark; the step-up DM 75 on test here supports screens up to 60in (or up to 40kg in weight). Bigger screens need a bigger sound and the DM 75’s roomier cabinet should provide the extra oomph you’re looking for. However audio quality via Bluetooth streaming is remarkably good through the DM55. It’s a lot better than I was expecting and streaming Deezer from my iPhone sounded great. Conclusion The DM 75’s modest feature list includes Bluetooth with aptX, Dolby Digital decoding and DTS TruSurround processing. But the most eye-catching thing on the spec sheet is the driver array. Unlike most soundbases, which might throw in some full-range drivers and a couple of subs, the DM 75 offers a three-way design with two 0.75in fabric tweeters, two 2in midrange drivers and a quartet of 4in woofers. Driven by a 200W amplifier, the DM 75 looks like it’s primed for serious sonic devastation.

Canton Digital Movie DM 75 - Pros & Cons

After spending an hour at richer sounds demoing I have decided to buy it, I also thought about getting Yamaha ysp2500 or monitor audio asb2 but was out of my budget. If you have a limited budget and want to play music only in one room, the DM55 is superb value. TV and films sound very good and streaming via Bluetooth is unlikely to disappoint. I went for the LG for ascetics and ease of use with my LG B8, no handshakes issues yet with any devices unlike the Samsung MS650 I had. It maybe not the best reviewed or top of class, that probably goes to the n950, but it’s good enough for my environment and I’ve had zero connectivity issues with my devices. So. When you turn this thing on you will see the source appear in the soundbar's display. If all is well, you will see flash up: 'D.V IN', followed swiftly by 'TV ARC'. This is great. But then you may turn your tv off or decide to watch something using a different hdmi source (like your blu ray player) and when you return you see that TV ARC will no longer display on the soundbar.

A helpful automatic on/off function fires up the unit when it detects a signal on the optical or coaxial inputs and shuts down after 30 seconds if there’s no signal. Simply turn off your TV before going to bed and the soundbase will automatically follow suit. The DM75’s speaker arrangement is unusual for a soundbase. Much like full-size home cinema speakers, it uses a three-way bass reflex design with two 19mm fabric tweeters, two 50mm midrange drivers and four 100mm woofers. Power output is quoted as 200W and frequency response is 35Hz – 23kHz. All of the issues do the exact same thing on my daughters tv so it can surely only be the soundbar as that's what the devices are connected to?? I've tried three full sets of hdmi cables in addition to two separate TV's and still have the same input issues. The bar is running the latest firmware and I've also reset it. What’s more, design and build quality are superb, while the terrific remote and a smattering of new features make it a joy to use.The Canton DM 75 is a soundbar that offers a powerful audio experience with its 2.1 channel output and a RMS rated power of 200W. It is equipped with audio decoders such as Dolby Digital and DTS, ensuring high-quality sound reproduction. The soundbar features a crossover frequency of 3000Hz, providing a balanced distribution of frequencies for optimal audio performance. Please feel free to ask any questions in the comments below. I have both setup here, so should be able to answer any queries you may have on either system. However, the Voice mode helps by boosting dialogue so you don’t have to crank it up quite as much. Good job, too, as the tonal quality of its dialogue is top-notch. The combination of a solid mid-range, expressive treble and subtle bass depth makes speech sound almost life-like, particularly Joe’s narration. The DM 75 is a surprisingly good Bluetooth music player too, making the most of its three-way driver complement and aptX support. It digs out details that go missing on lesser soundbases and renders basslines with great agility. Verdict
