About this deal

This picturesque corner of Dorset is famous for its spectacular mosaic of open heathland and bogs which support some of England’s rarest wildlife. The NNR is a mosaic of lowland wet and dry heath, valley mires, acid grassland and woodland, coastal sand dunes, lakes and saltmarsh. These habitats support a wide variety of insects, reptiles, birds and specialised plants that are rarely found elsewhere. Durlston NNR has a variety of habitats, including sea cliffs, coastal limestone downland, hay meadows, hedgerows and woodland. Situated beneath Durlston Castle is the iconic Great Globe – one of the largest stone spheres of its kind in the world, and one of the many artefacts of George Burt’s legacy in Swanage. The Great Globe at Durlston A slightly more challenging circular walk takes you from Durlston to the charming village of Worth Matravers. Worth Matravers’ village green

The woodland trails at Durlston have various quiet picnic spots and benches to take in the scenery, which at various points look out over Durlston Bay and across to the Isle of Wight. From the church grounds you can see the property on Nanny Brow we saw earlier. What a lovely location! He said that there had been interest in the reservoirs from as far away as Hong Kong, as well as locally, but most enquiries had come from people interested in turning them into houses of some kind.

Norden consists of 22 hectares of a range of habitats including dry heath, wet heath and acid bog. The council has published the further MoU and summarised the mitigation measures in Appendix 1 of this MoU. You can also access Durlston Country Park via the South West Coast Path – both from Swanage, over the Downs, and from the west from other nearby beauty spots such as Dancing Ledge. By bus Ballymahon One Act Festival was deemed a great success as the Bog Lane Theatre recently played host to three fantastic nights of drama.
