About this deal

The actual transfer speed of USB 3.0, 3.1, 3.2, and/or Type-C will vary depending on many factors including the processing speed of the host device, file attributes and other factors related to system configuration and your operating environment.

The RT-AX86U delivered very good throughput on our 2.4GHz close proximity (same room) performance tests. It’s score of 137Mbps was faster than both the TP-Link AX11000 (133Mbps) and the Linksys MR9600 (111Mbps) but just a tad slower than the Asus RT-AX88U (144Mbps). However, it did not fare so well on our long range test: its score of 38Mbps was 29Mbps and 21Mbps slower than the AX11000 and the RT-AX88U, respectively. On our 5GHz close proximity test, the RT-AX86U garnered an impressive score of 831Mbps, which was identical to the AX11000’s score and 49Mbps faster than the RT-AX88U. The MR9600 led with a score of 840Mbps. At a distance of 30 feet the RT-AX86U (237Mbps) edged the MR9600 (228Mbps) but could not keep pace with the AX11000 (328Mbps) or the RT-AX88U (318Mbps). At our terminal distance of 90-feet, the RT-AX86U was near its limit, with an average of only 7.4Mbps, barely enough for watching an HD stream. That said, the TP-Link AX6000 couldn’t even maintain a connection at that distance, while the Netgear RAX80 moved 20.8Mbps and the Netgear XR1000 led the way with 75.0Mbps of bandwidth available. The RT-AX86U had a range of 95-feet, 10-feet short of the XR1000. Based on a week of testing using Ixia’s ixChariot’s network simulation benchmark in my 100-year old 3,500-square-foot home, the Asus RT-AX86U was equal parts reliable router and gaming companion. At 15-feet, it had a peak throughput of 929.7Mbps. That can’t compare to the Netgear Nighthawk RAX80’s 1.39Gbps maximum output, but it’s 4 percent ahead of the TP-Link AX6000 (888.2Mbps), 7 percent ahead of the Netgear Nighthawk XR1000 (859.1Mbps) and 12 percent faster than Linksys MR9600 (822.0Mbps).

The ARP response issue has been resolved, along with the connection issue between the router and the ROG Phone 6 and 7. Fixed null pointer dereference vulnerabilities. Thanks to Chengfeng Ye, Prism Research Group - cse hkust contribution. Before logging-in to the router web GUI, please make sure the router is powered on and the LED light is on and stable. That said, the bandwidth available at 50-feet dropped to 285.3Mbps, which was just a hair ahead of the Netgear RAX80’s 271.3Mbps. It was behind the TP-Link AX6000’s 396.7Mbps and the Linksys MR9600’s 363.3Mbps. Up front, the RT-AX86U has 10 white LEDs that show it’s turned on, connected to the Internet and is transmitting on the 2.4- and 5GHz bands. There are activity indicators for each of the Ethernet ports and whether its WPS system has been engaged. It can be quite a light show at night, but the router has a button for turning off the lights. While its price tag keeps it from being considered as a budget-conscious wireless router, it turned in very good scores on our close range throughout performance tests. However, the more expensive and current Editors’ Choice winner in both the Wi-Fi 6 router and gaming router categories, the TP-Link Archer AX11000, is a better all-around performer and provides more ports as well as more robust gaming controls.
