About this deal

NOTE: This wizard will also not workwith any Network Management Card familyif the NMC was previously configured and not in DHCP or BOOTP boot mode. v5.0.0 and higher of the wizard, available from apc.com, allows you to locate unconfigured cards or locate configured cards on the network by IP range.

Run a terminal program such as HyperTerminal, and configure the selected port for 57600 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 stop bit, and no flow control. NOTE: Certain terminal emulation programs, such as PuTTy, do not support the XMODEM protocol. Kit includes all necessary parts to install an AP9635 for all G9000 UPS serial numbers and firmwares. If you made any wrong selections you will have no access and will have to connect a laptop with serial cable (hello 2023!) to fix your error via CLI or reset your NMC3 to factory defaults with a paper clip and reconfigure your NMC3 from scratch. Oh and when APC does decide to upgrade the firmware that is another trip to the CLI. Hilarious. (I work with the CLI from 9-5 in my day job and have no patience for this after work. From the terminal program's Transfer menu, select the appropriate firmware .bin firmwarefile to transfer via XMODEM-CRC. To do this within HyperTerminal, go to Transfer ->Send File. On the dialog box that pops up, browse the computer for the appropriate firmware .bin file. Once you do that, ensure the selected protocol is XMODEM and then press Send to begin the file transfer. For AP9617/18/19 based devices, the AOS should be transferred first and then the procedure should be repeated for the application file. To perform a firmwareflashwith this method the Management Card must have been previously configured with a System IP, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway and attached to the network. In addition, FTP Server must be enabled. For example, if you have the Network Management Card installed in a UPS, you need to determine which UPS you have. APC offers several different UPS families. Some of these families include: NOTE: For usersupgrading (or downgrading) their Network Management Card 2device from v5.X.X tov6.X.X, please review Knowledge Base articleFA167693 to understand several important considerations. This feature is available in bootloader version v1.3.3.1 and higher. Before starting the transfer, make sure the USB drive is formatted in FAT, FAT16 or FAT32. WARNING!- Connecting anon-APC serial cable to your devicecan causeunwanted, erraticdevice behavior. Device NOTE: These instructions can also be used in devices that have embedded (mini) versions of the above Network Management Cards.

NOTE: Network Management Cards with theSKU of AP9617, AP9618, or AP9619 use firmware 3.X and Network Management Card 2 units with theSKU of AP9630, AP9631 use version 5.X or 6.X firmware. The correct firmware for each platform must be used and they are not interchangeable. If the Management Card is installed in an Expansion Chassis or Triple Expansion Chassis, connect the provided configuration cable (APC part number 940-0299) to the serial port at the Management Card, or connect an RS-232 configuration cable (APC part number 940-0024) to the DB-9 serial port at the expansion chassis. If you connect an RS-232 configuration cable (APC part number 940-0024) to the DB-9 serial port of the expansion chassis, select 115200 bps.

Use thebootcommand to change the Network Management Card's boot mode ONLY if you are using DHCP or BootP. You then need to change the terminal program's baud rate to match the one you selected in step 12. If you are using HyperTerminal select Call ->Disconnect and go to File->Properties->Configure and choose the correct speed.Accept the changes and then to reestablish the connectionchoose theCall menu->Connect to apply changes made to the serial port. Press to continue. Terminal Emulationis a built-in function on most operating systems (ex: HyperTerminal). Before usingany terminal emulation program, any services using the COM ports must be stopped. For example, if you are running a serial version of APC's PowerChute software, the APC UPS service must be stopped prior to runningthe terminal program. Then, follow these instructions: Obtain the latest firmware files from apc.com and extract them to a folder. Please note, USB may not allow for a firmware downgrade. You must use a manual method to accomplish a downgrade.

Kit includes all necessary parts to install an AP9635 for all G5000 UPS serial numbers and firmwares.First it requires an NMC3 (which all soon will require a subscription). Fine. I got one. But oddly enough it cannot browse for a SSID, you have to manually enter one and then be smart enough to know what flavor of WPA2 your router uses (there are three options). Worse yet when you activate the wireless adapter the Ethernet port on your NMC3 is disabled. The firmware executable will then begin the upgrade process. This process may take as long as 5-7 minutes to finish. Once finished, close the executable.

There are different ways that you can upload the firmware for each device. Please choose a methodthat works best foryou. Use a text editor to create a file named nmc3.rcf. (The file extension must be .rcf, not .txt for example.) NOTE: Tests have shown that even with the network properly configured, the ability to reference devices that support this option is not immediate. In APC tests, it took between 6 and 16 minutes before this functionality worked. However, it worked every time (max wait 16 minutes).Depending on your network setup, your experience may differ. Note: This add-on option is only able to monitor the UPS, and not any power distribution. The embedded NMC within the UPS must be used to monitor any power distribution.NOTE: This method can be used to configure the embedded UPS NMC2 or optional secondary NMC2 for SRT models. NOTE: In NMC2 firmware version 6.8.0 and higher, and in NMC3, you cannot search for assigned devices already on the network using an IP range unless you enable SNMPv1 and set the Community Name to “public”. NOTE:To upgrade multiple Management Cards using an FTP client or using SCP, write a script which automatically performs the procedure. Updating or flashing firmware is necessary to implement new features, correct bugs, or when moving the network card from one UPS family to another.
