About this deal

Some content might look a bit better to you, but you usually just get a washed-out image or an over-sharpened and over-saturated image with lost details in shadows and highlights, so you’ll most likely prefer to have HDR disabled, as is the case with all edge-lit LCDs. VA panels typically have great contrast, however, the AG493UCX2 has an advertised contrast of 3000:1. It wasn’t until I calibrated the display that I was able to reach this figure, which reinforces my opinion that the factory calibration could have been much better. It should be noted that the previous model had much better contrast, so this could just be a one-off, but I can only review based on what’s in front of me. Keep in mind that 5120×1440 is almost as demanding as 4K UHD on your CPU/GPU, so make sure you’ve got a good enough PC rig to maintain the desired frame rate in games! The issue is, with USB set to "auto" in the settings, it maps the USB B+ USB A connector to ALL DVI and HDMI displays while USB C apparently will not be auto-mapped. This means that the AUTO setting is functionally useless. You can set it manually to USB C, but this means you'll need to do this every time you switch which device you're using. Although this is still an improvement over the previous model, a lot of minor niggles remain, which when added together make this harder to recommend. Source switching and startup are painfully slow, motion handling isn’t great, and you only really get the best out of this monitor over DisplayPort, which stops this being the one screen to rule them all.

With a size of 49”, ultra-wide displays provide double more screen space compared to regular monitors. The extra size makes for more efficient use of space and allows for an unprecedented 32:9 ratio. This provides you with plenty of horizontal screen space that’s especially useful for audio/video editing and productivity work. Moreover, you get an extended field of viewing in compatible video games for a more immersive gaming experience! Double the in-game immersion with the curved AG493UCX2: thanks to the vast screen space of 49" (32:9) and a stunning Dual-QHD 5k resolution, you face a razor-sharp image whichever way you look. A gushing refresh rate of 165Hz and FreeSync Premium Pro ensure the smoothest images for even more realism. Scanning Frequency DP1.4 : 5120x1440@60Hz (FRC) HDMI2.0/USB-C : 3840x1080@60Hz (FRC) 2560x1440@60Hz (FRC)The monitor has a power switch and integrated KVM functionality, it comes with a remote controller, and one of the USB downstream inputs supports fast charging. Though many monitors have an 1800R curve radius, it looks more extreme on monitors in the 32:9 aspect ratio. There’s no mistaking the wraparound effect here. The sides come in sharply and when looking at the Windows desktop, you’ll think you’re in a fish bowl. The curve yields some distortion, but you won’t it after a time. That distortion means that horizontal lines in Word processors and spreadsheets look a little bowed unless you adjust the panel to be perfectly vertical.

Information about whether the stand can be dismounted. Usually, this is required for wall mounting. To eliminate stutter and tearing, both models support Adaptive-Sync. They are certified with VESA DisplayHDR 400, decoding and displaying high dynamic range with richer colours (89% AdobeRGB, 91% DCI-P3 and 120% sRGB gamut coverage2 for AG493UCX2), suited for content creation. To deliver on all fronts, both models are also equipped with massive and sturdy metal stands with 100 mm height as well as tilt and swivel adjustments. Two 5W speakers in both models also create a rich stereo sound stage. The curve is really well done. I also have the AOC CU34G2X 34" and they feel very similar and that is a solid monitor. Panel uniformity is better than I expected for a display of this size. There are a few hotspots where brightness and contrast exceed the nominal limits, but for the most part, it’s in the green. Input lag, on the other hand, is imperceptible at ~4ms, meaning that you won’t notice any delay between your actions and the result on the screen. The monitor has a built-in automatic KVM switch, which worked as expected in our testing. If you have two devices in PBP mode, it defaults to the main source (displayed on the left half of the screen). To change which device is controlled by the peripherals, you can either switch the main and sub source or go into OSD Setup and change the USB Selection manually.
