About this deal

Wavelength works so well thanks to its special, custom device. The device allows the psychic player to randomly place a target, take a peak at its position, and then hide it. Then their team uses a dial to indicate where they think the clue sits between the two concepts. Placing the dial all the way to the left indicates the most extreme example for the left concept, while turning the dial all the way to the right is the most extreme example of the right concept. Wavelength takes less than a minute to set up and is played entirely in the box: you can just pass the game around without ever taking anything out. To start, place the device (the big plastic thing with the dial and rotating wheel) into the slot in the middle of the box's tray. For example, if I am giving a clue using the word an old coin. Using the adjective extremely to qualify the clue is giving away too much. Benefits of playing the wavelength board game Wavelength is a straightforward game to play. Players are assigned to two teams. One player on one of the teams is presented with a card, on which two dichotomous extremes are written, e.g. dark – light. The “active” player is shown a randomised position on a sliding dial – let’s imagine that the position is near, but not at the very end of, the “dark” end of the scale. They have to come up with a word which matches that position on the scale – they may choose “twilight”, or “Deadpool”. The rest of the team then have to guess where on the scale they think that word belongs.

After scoring the next round will start. The other team will play the next round. There is one exception to this if the current team triggered the Catch Up Rule. Catch Up Rule Remain on Topic: Your clue should relate to the concepts printed on the wavelength card. You can’t use one of the words on the wavelength card for its double meaning. For example you can’t create a clue where “hot” is utilized as attractive instead of a high temperature on the hot-cold wavelength card. While discussing, the players on the Psychic’s team can turn the dial to better illustrate what they think. Players can discuss for as long as they want. When all of the players agree to the positioning of the dial, they will tell the other team that they are done. After this point the dial cannot be turned anymore. The Psychic’s teammates are analyzing the clue “football” that was given to them. The teammates debate whether it is more round or pointy before choosing where they want to place the dial. Left/Right Phase

After the Psychic’s team has decided on the positioning of the dial, play passes to the other team. This is all subjective and you need to worm into your teammates’ brains to be clever. Thinking of that perfect clue can take a while, unfortunately. This is the big downside to Codenames and it's still present here. One person is sitting quietly with their brow furrowed while the rest are maybe twiddling their thumbs and just waiting. Hopefully you've seen an interesting movie or read a good book lately and can share your unsolicited thoughts to pass the minutes.

Everyone thinks out loud and ponders very dumb ideas-all while the other team poisons your brain with bad suggestions.

Just One is an award-winning, fully co-operative word guessing game for a smaller player count and is thus ideal for families. Dixit is another fun and popular title that pushes the boundaries of guessing by using pictures instead of words. Using just images makes it playable across all ages. If the current team scored four points in the previous round, they have a chance to play again in the next round. If the team scored four points and is still behind the other team, they will get to play the next round as well. A new player will be chosen as the Psychic for the next round though. Winning Wavelength If a Psychic ever gives away the target location after giving their clue, either verbally or nonverbally, it's up to everyone playing to decide whether to penalize the team. The game ends once one team gets 10 points. If both teams get 10 points during the same round, the team with the most points after the round wins, but if still a tie, then another turn is taken to get the winner. Clue RestrictionsAs I said earlier, one of your team members is a psychic and knows the position of the target. However, he can only communicate the idea using concepts. He draws two cards with opposing concepts. This is what he uses to give clues.
