About this deal

She says she investigated an internet-based game that led to pranks and misdeeds, and later to suicides and murders. She felt a very dangerous mastermind was controlling the games at this stage and called him the Curator, but she was not believed. Her theory was that he was a paid fixer, who arranged deadly revenge for aggrieved people who wanted their enemies punished. She warns Poe that if he gets near to finding the Curator, this very deadly villain will be aware and waiting for him. MW Craven writes superbly riveting crime thrillers with complex, well-crafted plots and intriguing characters. The stories contain smart dialogue, some humour, grisly crimes, and unforeseen twists. I find this series exciting and clever. When you think you have solved the next stage of the investigation and know the guilty culprits, you will probably be wrong. A serial killer who is as elusive as he is famous, daring in his actions as he is methodical in his planning. A man with a grudge but we don’t know how and why he chooses his victims; we just know he is able to penetrate the most secure and protected of places and people. There are few things more pleasurable than reading the first book in a great series and realising you have more books to look forward to. Whether you're in a book drought or just looking for something new to add to your TBR (to be read) pile, you're sure to find some great contenders below. 7 Gritty British Crime Novel Series to Try This Summer Tim Sullivan's DS Cross Series The Dentist (2021) Writing Style ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I love Craven’s writing style and the way he builds a story. It works brilliantly for my personal tastes, and I often think you couldn’t write any of this differently. The balance of humour and sensitivity, with the fear and tension and a forensically plotted story, put Craven up there as a favourite crime / thriller writer.

The story is scary, dark, nasty and gruesome and involves the dark web and what, if you are evil and twisted, you can find on there to plan a hideous and grotesque crime The Curator like every other book in this series is as much about the characters as the plot. The relationship between the dynamic duo Poe and Tilly is stronger than ever, their unique personalities compliment each other perfectly. Poe is complex, charismatic, whereas the wonderful Tilly is naïve, painfully honest and just as complex. The dialogue between the couple is endearing, charming and funny, but it’s these moments that add light to the darkness of the plot. They are both such fabulous depicted, compelling characters they are one of the reasons this series is a must read for me. Cut Short (Three short stories) – Tilly and Edgar, Poe’s English springer spaniel, enjoying a picnic at a nature reserve. When Edgar chases a rabbit, and Poe and Tilly chase after him, they stumble upon a twenty-year-old mystery, a mystery that couldn’t be solved until now . . Once again, the team's investigative abilities are tested, this time by a crazed killer who seems to be able to poison his victims, even though they are under protection. The killer, named 'The Botanist' by the media, gains somewhat of a public following as the victims he is targeting initially are people with extreme views or who have taken morally-reprehensible actions. He is a member of both the Crime Writers’ Association and the International Thriller Writers’ Association. The series was optioned for TV by Studio Lambert in 2017, a full year before The Puppet Show was published, and things are progressing nicely. However, because I know the actors the studio wants, that’s all I can see when I picture who would play Poe and Tilly.

Poe, Tilly and Flynn make an engaging central trio, with the embattled Estelle playing more of a direct role towards the end of the narrative. Their quirky banter had me laughing out loud at times, despite the gritty subject matter. The intertwined mystery storylines are superlative, providing a robust structure that makes The Botanist a compelling read that’s hard to put down once started. And then there's Estelle Doyle. It's true the caustic pathologist has never walked down the sunny side of the street but this time has she gone too far? Shot twice in the head, her father's murder appears to be an open and shut case. Estelle has firearms discharge residue on her hands, and, in a house surrounded by fresh snow, hers are the only footprints going in. Since her arrest she's only said three words: 'Tell Washington Poe.' I would like to thank Mr Craven for taking the time to answer these questions. The Curator (Washington Poe #3) is published 4 June 2020.

Then, a disgraced FBI agent reaches out with a theory that sends the case in an even darker direction. Could they be dealing with someone even worse than your garden variety serial killer? There is CONSTANT action and suspense. There are two stories that go along side by side, and usually I would prefer one story over the other, but this book is the prime example of masterfully weaving two stories together. I was obsessed with both. I have been off work this week due to health problems, and I have gotten up every morning at 6am to read. Kudos, Mr. Craven, for a great addition to the series. You won me over and I hope others will find their way to your Washington Poe (and other) series in the months to come!
