I woke up (on that June 2nd) from a very vivid dream. In my dream, two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods. One of these people was just your average girl. The other person was fantastically beautiful, sparkly, and a vampire. They were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that A) they were falling in love with each other while B) the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately…Cally is upset when she learns that she must leave her New Blood school and attend the Old Blood Bathory Academy. After narrowly escaping vampire hunters, she must now deal with the wrath of Lilith at school. Furthermore, one vampire hunter seems particularly interested in her, and she thinks she might be developing feelings for him too. I didn’t come to love any of the characters, and I only stayed on because I wanted to finish the book, (the thin ass boook and it took me quite a bit of will power to continue) and was hopeful that maybe something interesting will happen at the end of the book. Prácticamente todo el libro son los personajes conversando, de fiesta, "enamorándose", peleando y compitiendo por "destacar" en la academia. Para ser un primer libro, la introducción de los personajes resultó extraña y apresurada, pero luego todo el libro fue una gran introducción en la que no pasó nada. Solo Dillon enamorado de su compañera con una historia trágica, un pobre intento de descubrir qué es lo tan especial en Dillon y no sé qué más, de verdad.

No sé por qué lo leí, sabía desde el inicio que no me iba a gustar. Aun así, no me gustó, pero no por los motivos que pensé que lo haría, creí que sería una historia muy tonta y divertida como Anhelo o algo por el estilo. Sin embargo, la historia se sintió como el relato que escribiría una persona de 15 años para que sus amigos lo leyeran en el colegio. Centuries ago, somehow the vampire race got trapped in our world and must live with humans. With the help of a company called HemoGlobe, vampires buy blood without having to hunt for it. Thus giving them more time to live their lives peaceably with humans, and helping them keep their secret.This is a pretty easy read. It's light, sexy, with minimal thinking and maximum nudity. It's exceedingly silly and just a little too modern YA to be pulpy, but it still hits a lot of the good trashy novel notes. I genuinely enjoyed the characterisation and treatment of the vampires - these are proper vampires, that drink blood, have compulsive appetites, and bang like it's going out of style. They are utterly true to vamp stereotypes and literary archetype - although with absolutely zero depth or subtext - and all the better for it. This book is a hair's breadth from being a carbon copy of every other trashy media about rich teens being dramatic little nightmares, but because of its laser focus on vampires it manages to avoid it and instead is a very fun vampire story with some pretty good world-building. Expect explicit sex scenes, intense bloodlust, chaotic bisexuals being chaotic, violence and haughty arseholes; these are not sanitised vampires for the puriteen crowd, these are the true heirs to Dracula's coffin.

I was so intrigued by the nameless couple’s story that I hated the idea of forgetting it; it was the kind of dream that makes you want to call your friend and bore her with a detailed description. (Also, the vampire was just so darned good-looking, that I didn’t want to lose the mental image.) We devoured all of the series when we lived in Indonesia. Het blijkt namelijk dat hij een dhampier is (half vampier, half mens) en zijn moeder die hij niet kent, een machtige vampier is. First off, the characters weren't developed very well. They all seemed very shallow and I wish that the author had taken more time to make them seem more real. I outright hated Lilith, and I think I was supposed to care about Cally but I honestly didn't. I also think the romance between the vampire hunter and Cally was very unrealistic and happened way too fast. If you read The Southern Book Club’s Guide To Slaying Vampires before bed like us, you might have some gruesome nightmares too. Eso sí, el libro se lee en nada. De hecho, el primer día que lo tomé ya me había leído la mitad de la novela, porque es muy rápida y ágil. Pero luego perdí el interés rápido porque, realmente, no hay intriga de nada en concreto.
