Of the litany of releases K-pop nonet TWICE have had this year, Formula of Love: O+T=<3 (both One + Two = 3 and Once + Twice = Love) , presents the most complete, the most progressive cut for TWICE listeners globally. Prefaced as it was by dance-floor disco hit and the group’s first foray into the Billboard 100, “The Feels,” Formula of Love expands on this flavor. We've even got subunits! Probably not the ones many were craving, though. But still! It's always interesting to see how the members of a big 3 group are paired up when they're divided into them (well, the groups whose number of members allows them to do so). The Jihyo-Sana-Dahyun trio comes out with the best song of the bunch by far. While a bit one-note coming off of some of the album's previous songs (no surprise, it's also a disco song), I've found it to be more and more enjoyable as time went by. The cheeky 'I try to play it cool, gotta play it cool' and the hook's melody overall are truly what make the song a subunit standout. It's also not as cringey as Hello nor does it put me on the fence as 1, 3, 2, so it's the winner by all means. Hello is a fiasco, so I'll just skip right through it. Even if you say you adore purposefully cringey K-Pop, this is just too out there. They should've just made a song whose concept didn't force them to include a 'I'm litty'. 1, 3, 2 I'm still torn on to this day. It's a bit shy in its pace, which is not inherently bad. I just can't be all that sold on the hook, though if I were to choose, the Jeongyeon-Mina-Tzuyu trio is probably the most interesting of the three, mainly because I wouldn't see the three of them put together on a subunit and so the surprise factor is welcome.
