About this deal

In Stephen King's Lisey's Story (2006), the title character recalls it as her deceased husband's favorite novel. The short story " The Jaunt" (1981) takes its title from the book, which it names and references it at several points.

An excellent analysis of the Trump candidacy and events leading up to his election as #45. Uses both his perspective and that of the anonymous supporter to chilling effect. Guest appearance by Ivanka near the end. Many of the things I disliked about the novel were also strengths. For instance, Olivia, the pampered daughter of one of the richest, most amoral men on Earth, is 'blind', yet she's not. She simply sees in a different spectrum than the rest & her character makes absolutely no sense. In one scene she sees things no one else can & revels in her power, yet in another she uses this as a reason for hating humanity. The dated treatment of the female characters doesn't help, but her sight was really unique, interesting, & disappointing. Space Is an Ocean: Foyle is an astronaut but is described as a sailor— this is probably at least in part because of the Recycled In Space aspect.

Rousing Speech: Foyle's final tirade to the mob — though he has no idea if they will ever get the point. Delany, Samuel R. “About Five Thousand, One Hundred and Seventy-Five Words.” SF: The Other Side of Realism, edited by Thomas Clareson. Bowling Green: Bowling Green University Press, 1971. 130–46. A purpose had been found that could open up all of the potential this beast-man had within him: vengeance. From here we follow Foyle as he lifts himself out of the pit (physically at least) by his bootstraps and ingeniously contrives both his own rescue and the plans that set him on the path that will allow him to fulfill his oath: “I find you, ‘Vorga’. I find you, I kill you, ‘Vorga’. I kill you filthy.” All the while his spirit stews in the morass from which his body could escape and he becomes a rapist, thug and purveyor of violence in pursuit of his goal. No price is too high to reach it, whether it be imprisonment or social isolation; no obstacle can stand in his way, whether it be the most powerful institutions in the world, or the human dignity of those he uses. Beware, Gully Foyle is on his way.Giannini, A.J.; Slaby, A.E.; Giannini, M.C. (1982). Handbook of Overdose and Detoxification Emergencies. New Hyde Park, NY: Medical Examination Publishing. p.164. Failed Future Forecast: Russia is still the USSR. In at least one part of the book, Stalingrad gets mentioned. Took a Level in Badass: Goes from a living object to relentless killing machine to effectively transcendent through the course of the novel, all because some passersby decided not to rescue him.
