He had just hit the big time with a reality television programme which starred himself and his new wife. Everything was going brilliantly for this guy until he finds his wife and another man dead in their bed. Solomon is adamant that he had no involvement in their death. Fast forward a little and Solomon finds himself without legal representation and Eddie Flynn swoops in to rescue the guy. YALSA Selected Audiobooks for Young Adults 2008". Shot in a padded "panic" room, this Tiny Desk (home) concert reflects the rage felt by this three-man battalion of rhythm and verbal artillery, shattering genre boundaries in the process. While TH1RT3EN recorded this set in August 2020, as evidenced by Monch's interlude, this four-song set still channels the discontent outside our windows today. SET LIST

You’ll need to suspend your believability! If you can....then I think you’ll walk away loving the new favorite summer thriller! Chisholm, James S.; Trent, Brandie. An author who puts the thrill into thrillers.

Our next Mirror Book Club read is...

In the book, it is revealed that Hannah kills herself via swallowing a handful of pills. However, in the television series, there is a scene of Hannah cutting her wrists. Two years after the show's release, the graphic scene of her suicide was cut out. [32] [33] I loved the unique and clever plot, the central characters who brought so much colour and interest to the story, and the way the story unfolded towards a satisfying end. Nothing to criticise here. But there's someone on his tail, ex-conman turned trial attorney Eddie Flynn and he alone suspects that the killer isn't the man on trial. Robert Solomon and Ariella Bloom are a Hollywood power couple – until Ariella is found brutally murdered on their bed. The evidence points to Solomon and he is arrested.

There's also several other things about the book that bugged me...constantly. But rather than go into all my peeves pet and otherwise I'll simply mention how the plot and the story continues to get lost in all the political and other cometary that makes up the brave new world of the book. Every time I got involved in the novel it wandered off on some tangent. I very much believe that this book is a top contender for book of the year 2018. A subtle underlying tone of a tale of the American dream, combined with the very cold matter of a fate worse than death. The book included clever court room politics, and a spine tingling point of view from the perpetrator. Alongside classic, thought provoking and original story telling. As a crime fiction lover, I am more than pleasantly pleased that Steve Cavanagh has more novels out there, and that I will get to meet Eddie Flynn again. This is the celebrity murder trial of the century and the defence want one man on their team: con artist turned lawyer Eddie Flynn. I also felt like that the full implications of this prejudice against archaic men weren't considered. The Variant Thirteens have been declared non-human due to their terrifying natures. But, there's been a lot of debate over the centuries about who counts as 'human'. Thirteens are clearly human by our standards, so if ethics have shifted so severely that some humans can be legally declared not-human I'd expect to see a revival in all the old fashioned discriminations too – i.e. a big resurgence of legal racial, ethnic, and caste discrimination. But most of the racism – even in the evil Jesusland – is no more than the overuse of the world 'nigger' and some white supremacist prison gangs. The racial and sexual politics is mostly the same as ours now – without any consideration for how genetic engineering could change what race and sex are.Th1rt3en is a highly entertaining legal thriller and cat-and-mouse game. Despite a majority of this book taking place in the courtroom, it will have you on the edge of your seat. The story is told through alternating narrators, the serial killer, Joshua Kane, and the conman turned criminal defense attorney, Eddie Flynn. Both characters are well fleshed out, especially for a thriller. The author managed to do this in a way that did not slow down the story at all. Eddie and the killer were both compelling characters. Both intelligent and calculating, setting up chess moves to counter each other, one after another, in a battle of wits. Even the other characters from Art Pryor to Harper are well crafted and memorable. Some of the killer’s actions seemed inexplicable. The jury never really came into play in the story which was disappointing for someone who enjoys jury battles. Having said that, it does not take away the fact that this is a well-crafted story. The characters were so well developed. I loved Eddie Flynn and felt that Kane finally met his match. Flynn did so well in the courtroom. Kane just made me shiver. I thought it was very well written. The story really shines in the second half with Eddie’s incredible courtroom skills and his battles with the DA. Having said that, it never gets too technical and can be enjoyed even if you don’t particularly like legal thrillers. The author also got under my skin towards the end of the novel by seeming to take great joy in a couple of witty lines he thought up, so much that he threw them into the mix a couple of times. The lines were witty the first time, but when they entered into dialouge the second time it just irked me in that irrational way that I get irked. I guess he thought that they were jokey and witty enough to be 'things people in the future would say for laughs, or that is was some kind of idiom, but he introduces these lines for the first time way to late in the book for that to be thought of (there were a couple of them, the one I remember is "Like a Jesusland preacher with a choirboy")).

A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. It’s the murder trial of the century. And Joshua Kane has killed to get the best seat in the house – and to be sure the wrong man goes down for the crime. Because this time, the killer isn’t on trial. He’s on the jury.

Thirteen

Thirteen is the fourth book in the Eddie Flynn series but it can be read as standalone. This is my first book of the series and I surely regret not reading the first 3 books of the series. As a part legal and a part psychological thriller, the author has combined the best of both genres to create a mystery thriller par excellence. This is the fourth book in the Eddie Flynn series, but the first for me. It can definitely be read as standalone. With that being said, I want to know more about Eddie and plan on reading the earlier books in the series to fill in some gaps. Joshua Kane has been preparing for this moment his whole life. He's done it before. But this is the big one.

A dead bang BEAST of a book that expertly combines Cavanagh’s authority on the law with an absolutely great thrill ride. Books this ingenious don’t come along very often.” ―Michael Connelly While reading this book, I learned that it is actually the fourth in a series centered on Eddie Flynn. This actually impressed me because the main reoccurring characters are so well developed in Th1rt3en, despite their previous introduction. I really appreciated this, it allowed this book to standalone. So if you don't want to commit to a series, do not let that deter you from reading Th1rt3en. And there was a twist at the end that I didn't see coming, hadn't even entertained the idea of....nice work Mr Cavanagh.

Need Help?

I was intrigued by the plot...a killer on the jury. and not just any killer, but the one they are seeking. And no, that's not a spoiler. It is clear from almost the very beginning. I want to thank Flatiron Books/Macmillan for the free Arc of this book in exchange for an honest review. Another sweltering month in Charlotte, another boatload of mysteries past and present for overworked, overstressed forensic anthropologist Temperance Brennan. Eddie Flynn is the star as a conman-turned-lawyer and a highly entertaining character. He seems to always find himself in the middle of murder and mayhem. Always going the extra mile for his clients, and sometimes (okay, most of the time) using unorthodox methods in and out of the courtroom.
