About this deal

We are nearly finished on the chassis now. Here the wheels and tyres are attached. They are assembled in the box, just bolt them on as instructed! Don’t forget to grease the front avles as shown though… Just a history lesson here that I learned recently. When I first looked into the HB, I figured it was a British thing, or a take on something from across the pond. I figured "Holiday" to be like we use vacation here in the US, and the driver looks like he is wearing an Australian bush hat, and the car looks like nothing I have seen American made ........................ but it is based on a US rig! It is based on the Corsair Stripper; a small So-Cal buggy builder that only produced 150-160 of the things. They are air cooled VW flat-four based dune buggies, but on a steel tube chassis instead of VW pan. How does Japan-based Tamiya end up making a scale version of this car? And to be honest, outside of the fact that I haven't found a 1:1 version that had lights mounted to the hood (I can now say hood instead of bonnet although it is a one piece body), they did a pretty good job of it. The Grasshopper 380 motor: 10T/0.8 mod -standard fit is pressed/shrunk onto motor shaft; 540 motor: 18T/0.8 mod; mad brushless: use 10T midnight pumpkin / lunchbox 10T/0.8mod gear & gearbox fittings (Thanks Jonny Retro)

Citroen Xsara WRC Rallye de Monte Carlo 2004 (TT01 chassis) - standard is 19T 0.6mod/AV, Tamiya part number 50355 - thanks Jonny Retro Step 18 shows you what radio equipment you need for the Holiday Buggy. We used an Acoms Techniplus set, perfect for the car. Step 19 sees the steering servo saver built. The correct part for the Acoms servo is clearly marked in the instructions. An overview in the form of a spreadsheet and more pinion details can be found in the second post of this thread.

Step 11 sees us move to the rear suspension. The two lower rear wishbones are attached to the gearbox at this point. Here we attach the front end to the chassis. It is held on with three countersunk screws underneath and a plate attached by four screws on top making it good and strong. Make sure you snap on the steering links to the upright’s ball connectors here too. A sealed gearbox protects against sand and debris and is equipped with differential gears to efficiently transmit the power from the type 380 motor. The cars friction dampers mean that it bounces a lot on rough ground, just like the original but the good thing is that the 2010 version is a whole load stronger! The DT-02 bathtub chassis has its battery loaded in the centre for ultimate weight distribution and balance. The gearbox is completely enclosed to protect it from interference by dirt and debris. With 4 wheel independent suspension, it displays excellent handling even on rough surfaces. Holiday Buggy the vintage way... It's strange appearance, those mudguards, rear 'window', the funny way of attaching the body ("Where are the bodyposts?") , long bonnet and the cowboy driver: there's nothing like it. The car that comes close to this is it's brother: the Sand Rover. But still it's way different to me.

MOTORS

Please note: These ‘ready to run bundles’ includes everything you need to operate this model once the kit is built. This is a kit which will require building. This model comes with a blue shell. For the finishing touches and a good paint for your newly constructed model, Elitemodelsonline recommend Tamiya PS or Tamiya TS spray paints. A "mystery" pinion I had in my box of bits has a pitch diameter of 11mm, divided by 18 teeth = 0.61111, or 0.6 mod. Wild Willy, 58036 Audi Quattro Rally, 58037 Opel Ascona 400 Rally and 58039 Willy's Wheeler all use the same gearbox. But the Wild Willy has a different gearbox plate and a 15T pinion. The other cars use 18T.
