About this deal

Get help deciding what to buy with our guides to the best mattresses and the best pillows. Duvet types explained Hollowfibre or microfibre polyester duvets are the most popular type among Which? members – nearly half own one of these. Microfibre duvets are a relatively recent addition to the market, but they aren't to be confused with hollowfibre. Microfibres are finer but don't have the hollow space that hollowfibre has. Instead, microfibre is intended to be a synthetic equivalent to down; its extra-fine fibres give the same feel. Most duvets in the UK are rated between 4.5 tog and 15 tog. For warm temperatures and summer months, you can’t go wrong with a 4.5 tog duvet. 7.5 tog duvets

To help you get to grips with the basics, we've broken down the pros and cons of most common duvet fillings below. Having the right duvet can help make the difference between a difficult night's sleep and a peaceful one. Just over half of our survey respondents had bought a new duvet during the past five years. SleepSeeker supplies high-quality duvets from recognised industry leaders. We offer premium Snuggledown duvets to help you get the perfect night's sleep. Snuggledown is a British manufacturer with rich Norwegian heritage and a long history in bedding design. Snuggledown has been leading the duvet world for more than 100 years, so you can be assured of refined design principles and expert construction. Snuggledown Hollowfibre Duvets Don't buy it if: your priority right now is affordability or ease of care. Although we think it's well worth investing in the great night's sleep it offers, there's no denying the price is prohibitive, and this duvet is dry clean only. You'll know your duvet is due for an upgrade when the filling becomes limp or uneven, or it starts coming through the casing.

We asked duvet owners whether they felt buying one helped. One third felt their anti-allergic or hypoallergenic duvet had made a fair difference to allergy symptoms and around one in five felt it helped just a little. At SleepSeeker, we believe that everyone deserves a happy night’s sleep. We have the perfect blend of sleep expertise, customer knowledge and manufacturing capability.

Then there are the more traditional, natural fillingsto consider. These range from all types of feathers and down to wool filling. Natural-filled duvets will usually contain feathers, down or wool. Soft and luxurious, natural filled duvets like our wool duvets are durable and will last you for years and years. Hollowfibre duvets If you want a duvet for winter or for colder temperatures, a 10.5 tog could be the right choice. People who tend to always feel cold might be happy to sleep with a 10.5 tog duvet for most of the year. 13.5 tog duvets Cons: More expensive than hollowfibre, has to be professionally laundered, some people can be allergic to the filling Some duvets come in 'four-seasons' or 'all-seasons' sets. With these you get one light duvet (usually about 3.5 tog) and one heavier one (usually about 10.5 tog). The light one will be enough in hot summer months, and the heavy one suits spring and autumn weather. When you need extra warmth in winter, you can combine both. Standard UK duvet sizesObviously, it isn't always convenient to have a different duvet for each season, so the middle ground of the 10.5 tog duvet is one of the most popular options. Don't buy it if: you really want to layer on the warmth. This 13.5 tog duvet is plenty snuggly enough, but we think the wool and down options just pip it to the post in terms of cosiness. That said, this synthetic option is far easier to care for as it's machine washable and can be tumble dried on a low heat setting. Higher-quality bedding should last longer, but experts recommend changing out your duvet every five years. These all correspond to different mattress sizes. If you tend to feel cold in bed, go for the next size up from your mattress size (for example, if you have a double bed, use a king-size duvet), so that the duvet flows over the edges to keep warm air in and any draughts out. The highest tog duvet you can buy is usually 15 tog, although we have seen some all-season duvets (where two separate duvets of differing togs are combined into one warmer duvet) offering a combined warmth of up to 18 tog.

Long thought of as the Holy Grail of duvet fillings, down creates a plump, squishy and super soft duvet. However, that luxury feel comes with a luxury price tag to match. Buy it if: you're looking for the very best duvet for a great night's sleep. This wool-filled duvet is an investment, but we've tried and tested some of the best winter duvets on the market, and in our opinion, this is the cream of the crop. It's the warmest we've come across, keeping our testers warm and toasty throughout the night without any of the overheating or night sweats that occurred with other high tog options. That's thanks to the naturally thermoregulating properties of wool that allow moisture to escape whilst still providing insulation. Handmade in Yorkshire using 100% traceable British Cheviot wool and certified organic cotton this is also a great eco-friendly option, with wool completely biodegradable. Tog is a measurement of how thermally insulating, and therefore warm, a duvet is. A high tog (10.5-15) is better for winter, while a low tog (1-4) will be light enough for summer. Tog, size and type of filling were the three most important considerations reported by the duvet owners we asked. Other important factors included whether the duvet was machine washable, labelled hypoallergenic, and how much it cost. At the warmer end of the scale are 13.5 tog duvets. Choose this rating for when temperatures drop in winter. You’ll be snug and cosy and probably won’t need any extra blankets, unless it’s very cold! Which size duvet is right for me?

Snuggledown Goose Feather & Down Duvets

Spend some time looking for a new duvet and you'll soon realise there are a whole host of duvet fillings available. From hollow fibre to goose down, synthetic to natural, the array of terms and materials can fast become a little overwhelming. More than a third of Which? members surveyed choose feather and down duvets, making it the second-most popular option. These lightweight, cosy duvets retain heat well but still help you to avoid overheating. Plus, if cared for properly, they will last much longer than synthetic fibre alternatives. If you're a hot sleeper or suffer from night sweats then you might also find this high down-mix fill too warm; opt for a more breathable wool-filled duvet like Floks Luxury British All Seasons Wool Duvetinstead to avoid overheating.
