About this deal

I began to resent the stories with their heterosexual main characters and heterosexual subplots. The idea they enforced that the only way was… well, straight. I stopped reading for leisure. My storytelling obsession would be occupied by kid’s shows and video games, where things like that would remain more or less ambiguous. Just admit it, Alex. It’s impossible for you to have a conversation without flirting. I saw you tonight talking to that girl at the bar during my set. It’s why you said no when I asked you to change your plans and come on tour with us last month. Why you avoided every conversation about what happens when you leave. You would rather flirt around in Pittsburgh than actually have a real connection.” She shakes her head, her voice breaking as she looks away, out the window. “You’ve never chosen me. Never really been all the way in.” As they work together, Alex and Molly's dynamic goes beyond a simple alliance and they begin to form a genuine bond. Through their interactions, they learn to face their own family issues, develop self-awareness, and reevaluate their lives. The slow-building romance between the two will have readers rooting for their happily ever after. I keep scrolling, until the screen bounces as I hit the bottom of the list. There’s no one I can call at 1:00 a.m. Nowhere I can go except to the Greyhound station to sit and wait for seven hours for the bus to come. As a teen, there’s a lot of pressure to be exactly who everyone else wants you to be. You’re always comparing yourself to others, despite how different each of you are, and that’s the universal truth. Every teen is a slave to that. Disclaimer: I received this book from the publisher. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.) But I didn’t say that. I didn’t say anything. I messed it all up because she asked for the moon, and I couldn’t give it to her yet. I don’t even fight it. “Gladly,” I say, plastering a smirk on my face, like I don’t care. It feels familiar, and I hate it. Molly is able to get out of her shell, and find power in being herself, with the help of Alex’s influence, just like Alex is able to trust someone and allow herself to be open and vulnerable, because Molly gives her the space and the ability to do that.

She Gets the Girl is a book about being vulnerable. It’s about having the bravery to be who we are and to find who that person is. This book is seriously swoony. With dual POVs it’s normally easy for me to have a favorite, but with She Gets the Girl it’s impossible. I loved Alex’s giving and protected heart and her desperation to make things work. At the same time, I deeply related to Molly being unable to confess her crush, but also her difficult feelings towards her identity. La historia en si es una joya. Digo, ¿hate to friends to best friends to lovers? Bye. Fue demasiado épico y quiero quiero quiero MÁS. Una romcom hecha y derecha. Natalie. Come on. We’ve been over this. I went on, like, three dates. Four, max. I thought things were ruined between us. I thought we were done.” I swing my legs over the bed and stand, all of this feeling very familiar, in exactly the way I didn’t want tonight to go. “And only one was with Megan. She means nothing to me.” I feel like that perfectly captures the heart of this city, and I hope people find a glimmer of that while reading She Gets the Girl.

Some things have to fall apart because they don’t belong together, but some things belong so much they could never break.” Natalie squeezes her eyes shut, angry now, like she’s found the answer, but it’s one she didn’t want. “Megan Baker? That girl that plays the triangle in that Fleetwood Mac cover band? For real, Alex?”

Alyson, one of my underrated favorite parts of Molly’s story was her realization over time that you can’t be in love with someone, in her case Cora Myers, if you don’t even know them. But we all idolize people we have crushes on and put them on pedestals sometimes. How do you think Molly coming into her own identity and forming strong relationships helped her see this?

Stevie and Nora had a love. A secret, epic, once-in-a-lifetime kind of love. T …more What would you do if you forgot the love of your life ever even existed? Alex is a particular kind of person I have known in real life who is very hard to evoke in writing -- but the authors really succeeded, I think. She's charismatic, flirty, confident, and conventionally attractive enough that she gets attention from strangers. She knows it, and uses it to her advantage when she needs to. People assume she's a superficial bimbo. Alex and Molly are two girls who don’t belong on the same planet, let alone the same college campus . . . As the two embark on their five-step plans to get their girls to fall for them, though, they both begin to wonder if maybe they’re the ones falling . . . for each other. My eyes glaze over as I pause on individual names: Melissa, Ben, Mike. Coworkers that never became more than acquaintances. People I’ve met working behind the bar or at school, each text chain I try to start left empty as I see how I just… lost touch with them, months passing since the last text as I ignored their questions or their offers to hang out, so busy with schoolwork and taking care of my mom I didn’t have time for anything else.
