The popularity of the S Series is based on incredible design, cutting-edge technology and ease of use. However, as phones get more powerful - as has been the case with the latest S Series releases, so consumers have become more concerned with how Samsung's batteries will cope with the load. The Samsung S Series has always boasted great battery life - Samsung's latest - the S1- is no different. The 4,100 mAh battery with fast wireless charging (2.0) and Wireless PowerShares is no different. It has received compliments from reviewers for its superior battery life. But the sad fact of the matter is that the longer a phone is owned - the less the efficiency of the battery. It's simply a problem of chemistry. The metals used to provide power degrade over time as a result of use. It is estimated that after around 400 cycles a phone's battery capacity will degrade by 20%. In reality, it's probably more due to erratic charging cycles. Given that Samsung mobile phone owners are now holding onto their phones for longer - this can be an issue. In keeping with Samsung's typical marketing, there are both single and dual SIM versions of the Note8 out there. Region dependent, of course. Unlike with recent Galaxy A models however, the tray here employs a hybrid design. The smaller manufacturing process also typically means improved power efficiency, so we should have expected to see the 3,300mAh battery last a decent bout longer than its competitors. If Samsung’s previous launches were anything to go by, I certainly didn’t expect to see battery life cut. With the optimised mode switched on, I’d be more confident about getting through a day of heavy use. The phone is noticeably slower (around 20% according to my benchmarks), but it’s still fast enough not to be annoying. Of course, beyond wired connectivity, the Note8 has its Smart View interface to support an assortment of wireless display sharing protocols, including Miracast and Google's proprietary Chromecast. MirrorLink is also part of the mix. If you have already invested in something like a compatible car entertainment system, the phone upgrade won't break your setup. The Always On display feature was always going to be a battery drainer, no two ways about it. Samsung's claim that it would cost you 1% per hour seems about right, and it does leave a huge dent in the overall endurance rating.

Since the Note8 shares most of its internals with the S8 pair, it is only natural for connectivity options to carry over as well. The phones are basically identical in this department. Just like with the Infinity Display, the Note8 can't really make a bold claim and capitalize on being first on the scene to break the 1gb/s LTE mark. It is still an amazing accomplishment, though. Both the Snapdragon 835 and Exynos 8895 utilize LTE-A (4CA) Cat16 1024/150 Mbps modems. Yes, both chips are not only very close performance-wise, but should be equally capable of sustaining blazing fast network speeds (as long as your carrier supports them.)

If its extra pen and camera features interest you, the Note 8 is undoubtedly a decent buy if you can stomach learning how to use power-saving modes.
