About this deal

The best thing about this, though, is the combination of the two of them. Tomasi nails the father-son dynamic. The stories, particularly in the latter half of this giant book, really make you feel for them as a family, as two people forced together by blood, learning to deal with each other and respect each other in their own ways. And damn, if the middle of this book doesn't have some powerful emotional weight. Damore, Meagan (April 14, 2016). "Tomasi Paves the Way to 'The Final Days of Superman' & 'Superman: Rebirth' ". Comic Book Resources. Archived from the original on June 9, 2016. Come on, give me a break! If Ra's wanted to test whether Batman is worthy to be his son-in-law, shouldn't Talia be the one to challenge Batman in combat instead of Ra's!? Arrant, Chris (January 15, 2010). Tomasi, who worked in-house at DC as an editor for 14 years, transitioned to being a freelance writer in 2007 working primarily for DC.

By the end of the decade he had taken up an offer to study Engineering at Oregon State University, graduating in 1972. He founded an engineering company in Blaine County, Idaho, and turned his hand to designing bike and running paths for the local area. A keen snowboarder and mountain-bike enthusiast, he also taught at athletics camps around the world. Gustines, George Gene (October 12, 2023). "A Comic Book Upstart Seeks to Shake Up the Industry". Fosbury returned home to a flurry of media interest that proved difficult to sustain. He recreated his jump on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show but slipped over on the run-up, his usual shoes being unsuited to a studio floor. Later studies by physicists found that while other techniques required the athlete’s whole body to clear the bar at the peak of the jump, going over Fosbury-style allowed the legs to be well below one side of the bar at the apex of the jump, while the head and shoulders were below the bar on the other side. The athlete’s centre of gravity thus remained below the bar throughout, meaning that less energy was required to make a clean jump. Fosbury, however, had known nothing of the science at the time, relying instead on instinct and a determination to beat his own personal best. Although I was sad to see this series conclude, I'm happy to know I've got Tomasi and Gleason's Superman run to dive into next. As I hear it has similar themes to this book with it focusing on Clark and his son Jon, so I know it's going to be amazing. In 2012, Fosbury told the Guardian he “had a horrible time dealing with all the attention” that followed his Olympic triumph.

Big Burn was interesting and had some unexpected twists on Two Face's origin but still kind of didn't move the overall plot too much. The last story arcs are a little weaker than the start but still have some super fun parts and it made me really want to read Tomasi's Superman and Super Sons. Justice Society of America Kingdom Come Special: Magog, one-shot, "Magog: The Real Me" (with Fernando Pasarin, November 2008)

In the Olympic high jump final of 1968, the 6ft 5in athlete cleared 2.24m on his third attempt to win the gold. First Look: The Mighty #1". Newsarama. November 20, 2008. Archived from the original on March 5, 2016. The last straddle jumper at the Olympics was in Seoul (in 1988). It took a little time for European coaches to start teaching it as they had only seen still photos and couldn’t understand running around a curve, but it was still a surprise to me what happened.” In addition to being a high jumper, he also pursued an engineering career and succeeded in business.

Success!

It was too much. I was a small-town kid who did something way beyond what I had ever expected to do. I liked the attention, but I wanted it to be over at a point. It didn’t work that way.” Assuming you can work past that fundamental flaw of the Batverse, and assuming you can deal with the fact that Damian’s a real asshole at the outset, even considering he was raised by a remorseless, power-crazed assassin, Damian’s character arc is rewarding. He matures in fits and starts and it feels organic, a result, at least in part, of the lengthy tenure Tomasi and Gleason had on the book. In 2014, Fosbury unsuccessfully challenged Steve Miller for a seat in the Idaho House of Representatives. In a 2018 race against incumbent Larry Schoen, Fosbury won the position and began serving as Blaine County Commissioner in January 2019.
