This is just another alternative way to make pinch pleats, if you don’t have any RIKTIG pins ready available.

That meant that the 3 curtains that were around 93″L would NO LONGER WORK! But IKEA’s curtains are typically 98″ long (also too short for my dining and living room but long enough for the bedrooms), and they make a few styles in 118″ long. As you may know, IKEA’s curtains come un-hemmed. The raw edge is finished with the serger, and you can cut off and/or hem as needed to the right length. TIP #2:The RIKTIG hooks are an optional method used for creating pinch pleats – to be used with curtain rings. I just wanted to show some before and after pictures, so you can have an idea of what our living room windows look like.
Then, fold from the edge, to the mid point, to the next edge. This is kind of confusing, but, basically you’re looking for a secondary midpoint; the midpoint between the edge of the curtain, and the midpoint between the edges. 10. Repeat steps 7 and 8 from each of these secondary midpoints. Now you are ready to connect your curtain rings! Now that you know you’re window measurements, it’s time to choose your curtain style, and how you will hang it.
Now, they are made out of plastic. But that was fine for me because they are super light, and don’t weigh down my smaller diameter curtain rod. They were a softer “white linen” color after one wash, and they were worked with my color scheme. Remember that we turned the curtain hook upside down, so we aren’t exactly using it the way it was intended; if we use the hook the way it comes, our curtain ring will be parallel to the curtain and, more critically, to the curtain rod. Much better – right? The curtains just add a simple, “finished” touch to the room without screaming for attention. pinch pleat is the same as French pleat. Two prong pleats are good for showing off a patterned fabric and using more drapery rings. Grommets are casual and more modern. Pleating to the top makes the drapery appear to be directly attached to rings. NOTE*** Please make sure that whatever size finials you are using fit in this corner area as well – or if you’re choosing not to use finials.
Are pinch pleat curtains out of style? Pleated panels are a classic style of drapery and so never really go out of fashion, although their popularity rises and falls with current trends. They look quite formal, so work best with formal or traditional decorating styles. Pinch pleat is the most common style. What curtains to use with clips? Do you need 2 curtain panels? While it may seem logical that curtains should come in sets of two, curtains do not always come in pairs. They most often come in panels. Panels are a single piece of fabric or one curtain. If you want a typical curtain pair, you will need to buy two panels.

No need to worry! There is an easy fix. Just twist one part of the hook 90°. I used needle nose pliers, but I’m betting that someone with strong fingers (or teeth?!) could do this without tools. So in the picture above, you can tell how the curtain hangs closer to the rod than the one using the rings with clips version. Then I let them hang over my dining room chairs for another day. And they GREW…..and they were WHITER!!
First step is to turn the curtain hook “upside down” with the hook part oriented at the bottom, instead of the top, and open up the curtain hook a little bit. Otherwise you will get completely overwhelmed with extra “numbers and measurements” and will end up with unnecessary holes in the walls – LOL – trust me! SECOND:

The next hook goes in at the other end. Insert the right most prong into the first available opening on the right. Repeat steps 3-4, but go to the left instead of the right. This measurement will also let you know if you can get away with a ready-made curtain length panel like 84″, 96″, or 98″L sizes. I did a little digging and found this diagram from World Market that explains how to measure your windows and choose how you want your curtains to look. This 95 1/2″H – 96″H trim (yes this happens a bunch, window widths will be also be a little different) means that I needed either a 96″L curtain + 2 1/2″– 3″ rings/clips, or a curtain that was at least 98″L or longer to cover the top trim and windows.
