About this deal

The Echlinville Distillery in Co Down was Northern Ireland’s first licensed distillery in more than 125 years. It produced its first spirit in 2013. It is owned by Shane Braniff and is based on the historic Echlinville estate, founded by the influential family of that name in the 1730s.

Skellig Six18 has fresh herbaceous notes from the locally foraged botanicals with crisp citrus and pink grapefruit. The Muff Liquor Company is best known for its artisan potato-based spirits, particularly its premium vodka and gin. The use of potatoes is a nod to the Irish heritage of distilling, as potatoes provide a smooth and slightly sweet base for these spirits, differentiating them from the grain-based counterparts more common elsewhere. Irish gin, an emergent star in the spirits world, captures the essence of Ireland's verdant landscape and botanical bounty. Though the emerald isle is traditionally known for its storied whiskeys, a renaissance of gin distilling has taken hold, breathing new life into the nation’s spirits industry. In a land steeped in folklore and a rich tapestry of history, Irish gin distillers are forging a modern legacy with their innovative and botanical-rich gins. Produced at Hinch Distillery, Ninth Wave is presented in a beautiful, eye-catching blue bottle with a design inspired by a combination of sea waves and ancient Celtic symbols. The Muff Liquor Company was established in February 2017 by Donegal entrepreneur Laura Bonner and her business partner Tom Russell.Lough Ree produces two gins, Slingshot and Aiteal. Slingshot is the first ever gin made using peat as a botanical. “The peat creates an incredibly rich and smooth mouthfeel, while adding a deliciously earthy finish to our otherwise bold and fresh Irish gin,” says Michael. “The citrus and mint give beautifully fresh top notes, the juniper and cardamom in particular add spice and boldness, while the peat finishes it off with an earthiness and rounded mouthfeel, balanced with a hint of freshness from the mint.” The distillery also produces Wild Atlantic Irish Vodka, a small batch, premium vodka hand-crafted with real Amalfi Lemons, and is continuing the tradition of craft whiskey distilling in Ireland with a limited number of 188 casks of exceptional spirit. It’s amazing to see companies like The Muff Liquor Company taking a lead in this highly competitive market. They aren’t afraid to be bold and get their name out there. I love all of their premium drinks products, particularly the Muff Gin, but the biggest selling point for me is the positive energy behind the brand and the fun and professional attitude of the team.

Muff Irish Potato Gin is made with four different types of potatoes. The spirit’s tasting notes are influenced by botanicals such as mandarin, rosemary, lemon, elderflower — and just a little bit of champagne extract. The Muff Liquor Company says that the champagne lends the gin a “distinctive taste.” The gin was also a Gold Medal Winner at the 2018 World Gin Masters competition. So far, we produce all our own artisan gin and vodka. Both spirits are made using a potato-spirit base, which we ferment with four types of Irish potatoes. This is then distilled six times, to create a clean and 'creamy' finish. The gin is produced using a unique blend of nine botanicals, including mandarin, rosemary, elderflower and champagne essence. This makes it stand out and sets it apart from the rest. Both our spirits are gluten-free and vegan. According to the Nielsen CGA 2020 trends predictions, demand for premium vodka is set to rise, which is influenced by the 'better for you' movement. Alongside low and no-ABV spirits, consumers are also seeking out sugar-free spirits. Our vodka has 0% sugar, is gluten-free and vegan friendly. Ideal for those seeking 'cleaner' spirits. Their vodka is distilled six times, ensuring a clean and refined finish with a creamy texture that's often praised by vodka enthusiasts. On the other hand, Muff Gin is infused with a blend of botanicals, including mandarin, lemon, rosemary, and elderflower, among others, offering a contemporary twist on the classic spirit. These carefully selected ingredients combine to create a distinct flavour profile that's both complex and refreshing. Our Muff Gin is crafted from 4 different types of Irish potatoes and a unique combination of botanicals including mandarin, lemon, rosemary and elderflower. Champagne extract is in added before bottling, finishing off this unique gin with a smooth and refreshing taste. Our premium gin is award-winning with global gin experts and is gluten free & vegan friendly. A variety of spirits is produced here, including Jawbox Gin, Echlinville Pot Stil Gin, Bán Poitín, Dunville’s Irish Whiskey and several liquors. These are genuine field-to-glass spirits made from barley grown in the fields surrounding the distillery. Echlinville has also revived the age-old tradition of distillery floor malting. Better still (pun perhaps intended), the founder of the Muff Liquor Company was there enjoying an after-party with rap icon Snoop Dogg, superstar Ed Sheeran, and screen hero Russell Crowe.

It's not been easy, but it's been so fulfilling to create something from scratch with family heritage at its heart. I had zero knowledge of the industry when I started but I believed in myself and had passion to succeed. I’ve a wonderful team also which has the same drive as myself and loves my company like their own. When we launched our gin in 2018, 12 other Irish companies also launched a new gin so the fact we are still here and doing well is a testament to the hard work put in so far. Each new region that we sign up is a huge achievement and brings us one step closer to having our product available all over the world - so we continue to keep our heads down and work hard. In the below list, you’ll find a mixture of historic and heritage ginmakers – from Plymouth Gin to Beefeater – and brand-new craft distilleries forging ahead with a fresh take on the tour and tasting format. Many are offering a straightforward, affordable and informative way to taste through their creative range; others are three-hour courses where you can grapple with a miniature pot still under the direction of a master distiller. So-called ‘ginnovation’ is still thriving in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, so expect some of these tours to get geeky out on the production floor. The inspiration for the Muff Liquor company was her late grandfather Philip McClenaghan, a potato farmer who also distilled potato vodka. With the rise in popularity of craft spirits, Irish gin has found a warm welcome both domestically and internationally. The spirit has garnered a loyal following and recognition in the form of industry awards and accolades, shining a spotlight on Ireland’s capacity for gin production. Grace O’Malley gin was launched four years ago and is already being sold in 20 countries around the world. “We won a gold medal at the San Francisco Spirit Awards recently,” says Stephen Cope, the owner of the distillery, I was very overwhelmed. The deal was pretty big. I got to see Jimmy, he's touring Australia now, with Ed, and Russell all at the same time. I was hoping he was going to do a Tweet – he really, really enjoyed the products and then I got a message from one of his people on the Monday morning, asking if I'd be free for a meeting. I went down and the rest is history.
