It is a three-speed (33,45,78rpm) belt drive with auto-start at arm lift and optional auto-stop (but not lift).There’s an onboard stereo amplifier rated at 5W per channel, with small loudspeakers on the plinth’s underside.With a well built wooden plinth sitting on solid legs, the volume control is easy to use and it does not upset play, the plinth and arm sitting on a spring isolation system. Nice hinged dust cover too. Two small loudspeakers are fixed to the underside to make the LS-55 much like an all-in-one record player from the 1960s. Even 5 Watts of power is similar. Ideal for integrating into your existing home hi-fi setup, the LS-55WA comes with an RCA line-level output for compatibility with most hi-fi setups and several input options such as AUX and Bluetooth. The LS-55WA can also be used standalone thanks to the onboard stereo amplifier pushing out 2 x 5 watts for a clear and enjoyable listening experience without the need for additional speakers. Convert vinyl to digital formats You can change the record speed 33/45 depending on the size of the record you’re playing and there’s an auto stop button that stops the record from spinning when it reaches the end. Unfortunately, there’s no auto-return feature.

So there you are.This budget turntable offers a lot and looks good. It even has auto-power off with a spoken warning that took me by surprise; there’s a woman in the house, where’s she hiding? Under the turntable! If you're coming from a more premium turntable – one of Lenco's own higher-end models, for example, like the fine L-92WA anniversary model – the LS-410WA does have more of a 'flimsy' plastic feel, with its spindly tone arm and lever. There are four speakers, arranged in a line array, projecting sound from behind the grille in the front underneath the aluminium platter. There are no side speakers, so the sound from the two 15-watt speakers and two 10-watt speakers is coming directly at you. Speed accuracy was good, but speed stability mediocre, warbling and drunkeness being obvious on a test tone (W&F=0.4%).

It is the perfect choice for vinyl enthusiasts and delivers a high-grade sound due to the built-in amplifier and wide frequency range. This turntable truly captures the essence of your vinyl record collection. However, the AV.com extended warranty scheme provides an enhanced service, and is designed to offer a higher level of protection than many 'free' warranties offered by some retailers and manufacturers.

For customers in outlying areas of the country, the price of the Extended Warranty may be marginally higher, due to the potential for higher collection and redelivery transport costs. You might also miss certain higher-end features such as auto-stop/return, pitch adjustment control and a strobe light, which are all nice to have, no question. The LS-410WA is more about simply playing records, with the least amount of fuss or finesse. Questionable functionality aside, the LS-410WA is a solid turntable offering to suit a specific niche. This particular model is styled as 'Walnut' (hence the WA in the product name), although that's not solid wood you're seeing. It's actually a walnut-themed vinyl covering – and not all that expertly applied on our review model. It does look nice from a distance, at least, and would slot stylishly into any modern space. Overall, there’s a lot to love about the Lenco LS-55. It’s a complete solution for those who just want to play their old record collection right out of the box without the need to hook up amplifiers and mess around with cables. The built-in speakers are good enough for casual listening and even the option to stream music from your phone comes in handy.

Combining modern technology with a classic design this turntable’s luxurious wood finish compliments the decor of any room. With all four speakers so close together, it's practically a mono experience, so yes, dedicated mono records do come across very well. Flipping through The Beatles' remastered 7" vinyl box set, for example, is a lot of sonic fun. To be fair, this is a compact system with a lot of great features and while it doesn’t sound bad, it’s not going to be as good as the likes of the more professional Lenco L-3809 turntable I reviewed a few weeks ago. That said, if all you want is a walk down memory lane and the chance to take those old LPs for another spin, the LS-55 is more than adequate.
