About this deal

Cinderella is a classic story that has been and will be loved throughout the generations, similar to Breaking Bad. This is a great version, the language clear and simple, the pictures beautiful. I have a first edition of this book, my personal copy and the latest reprint that was released for the Ladybird's Anniversary. This beautiful Ladybird ebook edition of The Three Little Pigs is a perfect first illustrated introduction to this classic fairy tale for young readers from 3+. The tale is sensitively retold, following the three pigs as they leave their home and venture out into the big bad world, only to meet the big, bad wolf! Flood, Alison (20 November 2014). Although in later editions it was issued with fewer poems and plates, this book remained a favourite and made it through the DJ era and into the matt-boards era although printing seems to have stopped sometime before decimilisation. Then in 1977 an entirely different collection of poems was published as ‘Bedtime Rhymes’– this time an anthology by different writers, edited by Audrey Daly. Although quite a modern title, this one is already remembered with affection by parents who read the verses to their now grown up children. Judging by the number of people who enquire after this book, by far and away the most popular rhyme is “When Daddy Fell into the Pond”. The Ladybird Story: Children's Books for Everyone. There is similar confusion over the immensely popular 606d – Well Loved Tales series. Many people are anxious to get hold again of the fairy tales they remember as a child. But there are 2 different versions of the same titles in the same series to look out for. Here you can see some examples of the 3 different formats in which the 606d books were issued. Garden Flowers was revised in a similar way – with the beautiful Leigh-Pemberton illustrations of the original replaced by photos and description by Harry Stanton. This book, however, remained in series 536. Prayers and Hymns Perhaps due to the nostalgia for some of the earlier titles in the series, later editions with more stylised illustrations are often held by some with lesser regard. Equally, the original editions of the 1960s and 1970s have been criticised for their illustrations for being lifeless and not leaving much to the imagination. Equally, some have raised concerns over the drastic abridging of longer stories such as Pinocchio and the right to retelling distinctly literary fairy tales with a clear author such as Hans Christian Andersen. [4] List of tales published in the series [ edit ] In November 2014, Ladybird signed up to the Let Books Be Books campaign and announced that it was "committed" to avoiding labelling books as "for girls" or "for boys" and would be removing such gender labelling in reprinted copies. The publisher added: "Out of literally hundreds of titles currently in print, we actually only have six titles with this kind of titling". Its parent company, Penguin Random House Children's division, would also be following suit. [6] [7] Ladybird Tales are based on the original Ladybird retellings, with beautiful pictures of the kind children like best - full of richness and detail. Children have always loved, and will always remember, these classic fairy tales and sharing them together is an experience to treasure. Ladybird has published fairy tales for over forty-five years, bringing the magic of traditional stories to each new generation of children. Read more Details

Cinderella's mother had died and she lived with her father and two stepsisters. She was known as Cinderella because she had to sleep by the hearth amongst the cinders! Unfortunately she always looked dusty and dirty and she worked from morning to night without stopping, dressed in her wooden shoes and dingy clothes.

So Cinderella tries on the slipper, and it fits. She marries the prince and her stepsisters are more than a little mad. But Cinderella is suddenly rich and famous, so I don't think she cares too much. Everyone lives happily ever after. And Cinderella's just like- Of course the ‘Recognition’ series (584) was demanding in terms of revision. I have 6 different versions of ‘Motor Cars’ on my shelf. [1] From the beginning, the company was identified by a ladybird logo, at first with open wings, but eventually changed to the more familiar closed-wing ladybird in the late 1950s. The ladybird logo has since undergone several redesigns, the latest of which was launched in 2006. Here’s another title originally from the wonderful 563 series which found it’s way, years later, into a different version:

Ladybird books are fundamentally picture books,' says Helen Day, a historian and collector of Ladybird books and the curator of the exhibition ' The Wonderful World of Ladybird Artists'. 'The pictures were quite particular. They were always very dense and generally very colourful, and you read the picture. And if the picture engaged you, you read the text.'
