About this deal

The soles of the TX4 are made by Vibram, the leading manufacturer of soles for climbers, hikers and walkers. High abrasion resistance and reduced weights thanks to the PU TechLite rand and rubber toe for extra protection, Vibram MegaGrip sole with Impact Brake System at the rear, Trail Bite Heel enhances the downhill grip. Climbing zone at the toe for climbing routes and return trails. I have very wide feet and struggled finding a pair of hiking shoes that has a wide toe box but also keeps my heel tight, but these shoes hit the mark on both accounts.

STB Control System™: the uppers wrap around the midsole at the middle of the boot enhancing stability on traverses providing a snug fit for enhanced comfort and precision. This test will tell you if the shape of the internal heel cup matches your heel to ensure it holds you securely, especially when ascending steep ground. We are trying to eliminate the dreaded heel blister. There are no additional costs or duties on products marketed in countries within the European Union. Customers will not have to pay anything on delivery. The boot upper is made from suede leather and mesh, and despite some heavy usage over the last 24 months, there’s no sign of wear and tear problems.Plenty of technology, a very lightweight feel and an overall great performance. We like this boot. Tester’s Verdict The TX4 Mid is one of the most versatile, all-rounded pieces of footwear available; whether you're climbing, scrambling, trekking or simply walking around town, they're exceptionally comfortable, well made and perfect for almost every outdoor pursuit. However, even after the most rigorous assessment and testing, there is no better way to be absolutely sure than to have the boots on your feet for an extended period of time. We therefore offer our Home Trial Period which gives you the opportunity to wear the boots around your house to give you an indication of how they feel before you venture outside. We recommend that during the Home Trial Period that you wear the boots for as long as possible and at different times of the day, wear them up and down stairs, when moving around and when resting, you can even sleep in them if you want. La Sportiva set the standards in approach shoe design with their Boulder X model. It was the go-to shoe for climbers looking to upgrade their approach shoe collection, or even to replace their battered 5-year-old Boulder X – we even know of people hoarding pairs of Boulder X in fear that they might one day become discontinued. La Sportivahave transferred their knowledge from stiffer mountain boots into their approach range, naming it their STBControl System. Essentially, the upper wraps around the midsoleat the middle of the shoe which enhances stability on traverses and rough terrain. This also provides a more supportive and snug fit, in turn increasing the comfort and precision while climbing.

La Sportiva's TX4 Mid GTX take the classic approach shoe and add more support with this Mid design. They are still made with a solid sole, leather outer and Gore-Tex lining. They feature everything you want in an approach shoe with extended rubber bumpers around the toes, along the sides and up the heels along with the added support of the mid cut around the ankle. A strong, effective lacing system allows you to get the most comfortable fit and the large pull loop on the heel makes getting them on much easier too. The Gore-Tex lining helps keep out the wet on days when the weather is not on your side. High resistance to abrasion and low weight is provided thanks to the PU Techlite rand and protective rubber top cap. You should now be able to see approximately 2 cm (about an index fingers width) of the footbed poking out in front of your toes. The TX4 is both a reliable hiking shoe and a flexible pair of climbing shoes in terms of its design. The lacing, which is very typical of climbing and La Sportiva models, and the slim fit are assets. They look good because the laces are coloured to contrast with the fabric. The soles are turned inwards, which makes them more ergonomic. These shoe are developed specifically for mens feet. They feature everything you want in an approach shoe with extended rubber bumpers around the toes, along the sides and up the heels. A strong, effective lacing system allows you to get the most comfortable fit and the large pull loop on the heel makes getting them on much easier too. The Gore-Tex lining helps keep out the wet on the walk in but obviously with a shoe that is this low cut water can (and does) get over the tops easily.

Now that your boots are done up properly stand up on your tiptoes and walk on the spot on the balls of your feet as if you are walking up a steep hill. If your heels lift more than approximately 5mm from the footbed you may need to pull the laces tighter, or the boots may just be the wrong shape for you. Leather shoe with Gore-Tex Extended Comfort designed for technical approach routes and via ferrata, part of the Traverse X approach series: ideal for prolonged use by mountain guides and all those who work in the mountains. If you can see this amount of space then you are pretty much on the way to making sure that your boots are the correct size. This space between your toes and the end of the footbed ensures that you will not stub your toes on the inside of the boot when you descend. This can be excruciatingly painful. If you can’t see this amount of space then it’s a good bet that the boots will be too small. But let’s not dwell on what you don’t have, instead we shall teach you how to ascertain your size using some common household objects. As the name implies, the line is designed to traverse mountainous terrain, whether that be via ferrata, mountain ridges, or easy trad climbing.

The Boulder X set the bar extremely high as the gold standard of approach shoe. But La Sportiva has been quietly tweaking designs and stealing bits from their Boulder X and climbing boot lineups to create the all new Traverse X series of approach shoes and boots. A lightweight and comfortable mountaineering boot for hillwalking, via ferrata and approach routes - the La Sportiva TX4 Mid GTX! NOTE: The above table is only a guide. Manufactures don’t like tomake it easy as every single oneof them strays from the measurements above. Leather can wet out and grow heavy and misshapen with extended exposure to rain or snow. You can apply waterproofing products, but keep in mind that they will impact breathability. Compared to the mesh upper of the TX3 or canvas upper of the Evolv Cruzer Psyche, the TX4’s leather boosts the shoe’s climbing ability significantly by adding protection, rigidity, and a close fit. Comparatively, the leather Five Ten Guide Tennie offers a slightly tighter fit and more streamlined toe box for technical precision, but these climbing-specific features detract from comfort and protection on the trail.

The TX line is broken up into three models: TX2, TX4 and TX5, with the number depending on the weight and stiffness of the shoe (TX2 being lightweight). TX4 and TX5 models are also broken up into a low and a mid version, so that you’re able to fine tune the fit, stiffness and weight based on the intended use. I found them a little hot in the summer but only rarely where they uncomfortable. For me, they provide the perfect balance between protection and breathability, and I certainly wouldn’t want a boot with less protection just for the sake of cooler feet – next time I may get the version without Gore-Tex as I suspect this reduces breathability of the boot.
