In the specifications, they suggest that it should not be used for children 3 years old and younger. Also, when used as a bunk bed, the top bed should be used by kidsages 6 years and older. The picture shows it best, and you will see it also in the video below: The system used as a bench. When you set it up, you can arrange it in the vertical bunk set up or separately as twin cot systems. However, in the vertical arrangement, the first cot sits about 9.5 inches off of the ground while the top bunk sits 28 inches from the ground, which gave us some peace of mind in terms of overall safety.The Kid-O-Bunk comes with useful bags, for carrying and storage. Each part of the bed is secured within it’s own spot in the bag, making it a compact storage solution. The bag is slightly padded so if you bump something while moving it nothing gets damaged. We camped for 3 weeks and 1 day, with 2 sets of bunks, and I have no reservations in saying that the trip would not have been as enjoyable without the kid-o-bunks. The girls each had their own space, so poking and prodding and generally annoying each other was reduced. The hanging organisers on each bed housed their drinks, books, toys, notebooks, the biggest girl's i-pod... so losing stuff and accusing other people of stealing it was reduced. There was floorspace for the boxes containing the girls' clothes, so they could get themselves organised in the mornings. There was room for mum or dad to sit in between the beds and read a story... And on more than one occasion some of the girls had a lie in and the others got up and out without treading on their sleeping sisters and waking them up... Both the kids loved them way beyond my expectations, and unfortunately to a point where there were floods of tears when I took them down. My plan is to let the kids on them a few more times before we need to use them for sleeping.

The system is great for vacations with children, ordinary camping, summer camps, travel sports teams, sleepovers, visiting grandparents, etc. We will certainly be using these to camp happily for many years to come, but as a large(ish), they have also opened many more doors. It is pretty difficult of us to stop over with friends, or in hotels because of the sheer space we take up... few people have enough room for us, even if we could provide our own airbeds etc, but now we can pretty much squeeze in anywhere. (including, for one unexpected night only, all 6 of us in a pretty small double room in a guest house in the Czech Republic!). And of course, we can now welcome more visitors into our own home! I should add my boys are two and four so a little too young to be using Kid-O-Bunk properly as it’s recommended for seven to twelve year olds. For safety the manual says no children under six should be left unattended on the top bunk. It does take longer to put together than a fold out camp bed, but that's what I would expect from a superior product. Half an hour sees it all set up, once you've had a play and know where the bits go and trust me the kids love the beds! Bed time was a joy as the little darlings wanted to get into their bunks. So this is something really useful, the beds transform in the sitting area which you need in such an environment, no need to carry extra chairs. In such a use, you can store sleeping bags and pillows under the cot, as you see there is plenty of space there.Best of all? They’re also made for adults. Same deal, just bigger. And instead of being called Kid-O-Bunks, they’re called Disc-O-Beds ⏤ no doubt because they help ensure the whole family will survive.
